Vit c in your skin care – the indispensable role

Vitamin C, or L-ascorbic acid, is a compound that is extremely important for the proper functioning of our body. It participates in various processes that take place in it. This vitamin is widely used in medicine, it is also used in cosmetics, especially in facial care. Vitamin C in your skin care can have a huge impact on its condition and appearance.

ACTION OF VITAMIN C

Vitamin C is unparalleled in taking care of the condition of our blood vessels. Ascorbic acid seals them and makes them less fragile. It effectively fights erythema and reduces the visibility of dilated capillaries. It prevents their bursting and swelling.

Vitamin C is one of the strongest antioxidants. It inhibits the action of harmful free radicals, which are the cause of skin aging.

One of the undoubted advantages of vitamin C is its ability to lighten discolorations and even out skin tone. Ascorbic acid inhibits excessive production of pigment (melanin) in the skin, acting depigmentation. Thanks to these properties of vitamin C one can effectively fight against skin discolorations at any time of the year. The use of cosmetics with vitamin C brings spectacular results in people with pale, gray skin, damaged by smoking cigarettes, among other things. Visible signs of the effects of serums or creams with this ingredient appear already after two weeks from the start of their application. The skin becomes visibly brighter and more radiant.

Ascorbic acid has anti-inflammatory properties. It accelerates wound healing and relieves the symptoms of acne vulgaris and rosacea. Although it is not able to completely cure these diseases, it effectively supports their therapy.

Vitamin C supports the production of collagen, which is responsible for skin firmness and elasticity. Collagen is a protein, made up of three chains intertwined with each other. When these chains are tightly twisted together – our skin is firm and elastic. As we age and the aging process intensifies, the collagen structure loosens and various damages occur. Over time, our body also loses the ability to rebuild collagen. As a result, wrinkles appear and the skin becomes flabby and sags. Studies show that ascorbic acid effectively improves the efficiency of collagen reconstruction. This is why vitamin C is such an important component of cosmetics, preventing the skin from aging.

VITAMIN C IN YOUR SKIN CARE AS A SERUM

Used regularly, vit c in your skin care can completely change the look and condition of our skin. Properly applied will make wrinkles shallow, brighten discolorations, and restore a healthy glow to gray and tired complexion. Applied in the form of serum or cream, ascorbic acid can bring our skin many benefits. Cosmetics enriched with vitamin C are recommended for the care of both young skin (which needs protection against free radicals) and mature skin (with visible signs of aging).

Vitamin C should be applied in the morning, under the moisturizer, necessarily with a filter. Sun protection is absolutely necessary in this case, especially when using a cosmetic with ascorbic acid, which has a slightly exfoliating effect. Vitamin C treatment can be used throughout the year. However, in autumn and winter it is worth to combine it with retinol therapy. Such a combination will allow for an extremely effective fight against wrinkles and discoloration. Both components should be used according to the scheme: ascorbic acid in the morning, and retinol – at night. Do not apply them simultaneously or one after the other! People with particularly sensitive skin should apply them alternately, every other day.

IRREPLACEABLE ROLE OF VITAMIN C AFTER INVASIVE TREATMENTS

Many treatments of aesthetic medicine (such as laser or mesotherapy) involve controlled micro-damage of the skin, which stimulates its remodeling. For proper course of the recovery process – uncomplicated and fast healing, collagen synthesis and obtaining the best effect of the treatment – vitamin C treatment is recommended.

In addition to the previously mentioned most important functions, ascorbic acid also has many other positive effects on our body in the period after surgery:

– it is believed to exhibit analgesic effects;

– has an antihistamine effect, reducing the tendency and severity of allergic reactions;
