Laser epilation, i.e. permanent hair removal, is becoming increasingly popular. All because it helps to get rid of troublesome hair forever. In our salons in Warsaw and Krakow – J’adore Institute laser epilation is performed using Soprano Ice. It is an innovative device, introduced to the market in 2016, allowing for precise adjustment of the treatment to the individual needs of the patient. Laser epilation performed with this laser is extremely effective, but you need to prepare for it properly. Check what you need to do!
Laser Epilation – check for contraindications!
At the very beginning, make sure that we do not have any contraindications to perform laser epilation. This will avoid unwanted actions and increase safety. The most important contraindications for laser epilation are:
- Cancer in the body and on the skin,
- unstable endocrine diseases,
- unregulated diabetes,
- pregnancy,
- epilepsy,
- implanted pacemaker or defibrillator,
- Metal implants in the body,
- strong tan,
- open wounds / stoned,
- susceptibility to scarring,
- use of Accutan in the last 6 months,
- use of photosensitizers, antibiotics, vitamin A derivatives, hormones (except contraception), steroids,
- chemical or mechanical peeling made in the last two weeks in the area to be exposed,
- Laser dermabrasion performed in the last three months on the treatment surface.
How to prepare for laser epilation?
Proper preparation for laser epilation is essential! If we neglect certain issues, the treatment will not bring the expected results. It is also very important to listen to the recommendations of a specialist during the whole treatment. The person performing the epilation will tell us about all the actions that should be avoided and will present an individual treatment plan. However, it is worth knowing in advance how to prepare for the treatment, and we will shorten the waiting time for it.
For a period of three weeks before the laser hair removal (epilation), as well as between treatments and three weeks after the last treatment, the area undergoing laser epilation must not be sunburned – there is a large amount of melanin in the tanned skin responsible for attracting the laser light. Self-tanning preparations should also be avoided for about ten days before the treatment.
Self-tanning cosmetics (and even spray tan) are not the only ones to be resigned from. A week before the treatment, you should leave the products exfoliating the epidermis. However, it is advisable to perform mechanical or chemical peeling beforehand. Also a week before the treatment you should give up products containing retinol, isotretinoin, fruit acids and vitamin C. In this way we prepare the skin for the treatment and avoid burns and discoloration during the laser epilation.
It should also be remembered that a month before laser epilation, mechanical and chemical methods of epilation should be abandoned (f.ex. waxing). If the hair is too long and it interferes with us, you can shave it. Using other methods on the treated area could only extend the treatment. Chemical and mechanical epilation interferes with the hair growth cycle and as a result epilation does not bring the expected results.
It is also important which medications and supplements we use. Approximately one month before laser epilation, you should give up herbs such as St. John’s wort, marigold, pansies, horsetail, nettle, chamomile, balm, mint, lovage, cumin. They have properties that accelerate hair growth and can also cause discoloration during the treatment. Approximately 3 weeks before the treatment, photosensitizers, e.g. antibiotics, antidepressants, some painkillers (aspirin, ibuprom) should be discontinued.
Laser Epilation treatment – how to proceed the day before the treatment?
The area to be treated should be properly prepared for the treatment. First of all, you should shave your hair with a razor. If this is the first treatment, it is worth leaving a small piece of hair so that the specialist can assess its thickness and choose the right dose. Care should be taken to avoid any irritation or scratches that could be a contraindication for laser epilation. The skin should be well cleansed and moisturized before the treatment. However, on the day of the treatment, creams, deodorants, antiperspirants, lotions and other care products should be avoided in the treated area. It is also worth to use protective filters throughout the treatment.
