Dry skin — treatments and care, especially in winter

Dry skin needs constant support — especially as winter approaches.

7 min readwritten for women

Dry skin is a skin type marked by reduced sebum production. It isn't "damaged" — but it does need consistent, appropriate care, and sometimes treatment support, particularly in winter. Understanding its needs helps your skincare actually work.

Dry vs dehydrated — remind yourself of the difference

Dry skin and dehydrated skin are two different conditions that often get confused. Dry is a permanent type — the skin produces little sebum, and that's simply how it is. Dehydrated is a temporary state — any skin type, even oily, can be temporarily dehydrated from a lack of water.

  • Dry: low sebum, constant tightness, tied to a specific skin type
  • Dehydrated: normal or high sebum, variable tightness, a "paper-like" feel when pressed
  • Important: dry skin can also be dehydrated at the same time — in that case, both issues need addressing

Signs of dry skin

Dry skin has characteristic signs that appear regardless of the season — though they often intensify in winter.

  • Constant tightness — even shortly after applying cream
  • Flaking — especially around the nose, brows and forehead
  • More visible wrinkles than in peers your age (thin, dry skin ages faster)
  • Lack of natural radiance — skin looks dull and muted
  • Quick reactions to wind, frost and air conditioning
  • Makeup "settles" into fine lines and doesn't last

Treatments for dry skin at J'ADORE

With dry skin, the key is to restore hydration at multiple levels — both in the epidermis and in deeper layers. At J'ADORE INSTYTUT, we offer several treatment paths that often work well for this skin type.

HydraFacial — multi-level hydration

HydraFacial is a multi-step treatment combining cleansing, hydration and nourishment. For dry skin, the Hydrate step is especially valuable — a serum with hyaluronic acid and peptides — finished with Growth Factor serum, the most intensively hydrating stage of the treatment.

OxyGeneo Hydrate — oxygenation and radiance

The Hydrate capsule in OxyGeneo combines hyaluronic acid, aloe and collagen with an oxygenating effect. Oxygenation gently exfoliates dead skin cells without micro-trauma, while the oxygen effect improves skin oxygenation. For many people, the immediate radiance and hydrated feel are very noticeable.

EstGen — barrier repair and hydration

EstGen is a treatment based on colostrum and growth factors. These ingredients can support the repair of the dermis's lipid barrier — and the barrier is exactly what keeps water in the skin. For dry skin, where the barrier is often compromised, this can be a particularly valuable direction for care.

Profhilo — hydration and density from within

Profhilo contains a high concentration of hyaluronic acid that reorganises the extracellular matrix once injected beneath the skin. For dry skin, this means hydration "from within" and a possible increase in skin density, improving elasticity. The series usually consists of two sessions a month apart.

Hydrating mesotherapy

Mesotherapy with cocktails rich in hyaluronic acid and ceramides delivers active ingredients directly into the dermis. For dry skin, cocktails with a high concentration of HA and barrier-building lipids can bring a noticeable improvement in hydration and comfort.

Home care — what works for dry skin

For dry skin, home care should work on three levels: drawing water into the epidermis, filling the gaps between cells and blocking water loss. This is the so-called HEO principle — humectant, emollient, occlusive.

Skincare mistakes with dry skin

For dry skin, several popular skincare habits can do more harm than good.

  • Bar soap — pH around 9–10, while skin sits around pH 4.5–5.5. This disrupts the barrier.
  • Hyaluronic acid without an occlusive in dry air — HA can draw water out of the skin's deeper layers instead of from the air.
  • AHA acids without an adequate hydrating base — dry skin irritates more easily under overly intensive exfoliation.
  • Alcohol denat. in the ingredients list — this damages the lipid barrier, which dry skin already lacks.
  • Grainy scrub exfoliants — these cause micro-trauma that heals more slowly in dry skin.

Winter care for dry skin

Winter is the toughest season for dry skin. Frost outside, dry air from heating, and constantly moving between cold and warm environments create ideal conditions for every symptom to worsen.

  • Dry air from heating increases transepidermal water loss (TEWL)
  • Frost causes vessels to constrict — poorer microcirculation means fewer nutrients reach the skin
  • Sudden temperature changes increase reactivity
