A gummy smile is a feature women usually notice in photographs — that moment of a wide, genuine smile where the band of gum draws more attention than the teeth themselves. Correction with botulinum toxin is a precise, reversible solution here: a small dose relaxes one muscle, the lip lifts a little less, and the smile stays fully genuine and natural.
With female faces, where smile expressions tend to be intense and expressive, exceptionally precise dosing matters. Too small a dose — and the effect is imperceptible. Too large — and the smile loses its lightness. That's why the J'adore approach is deliberate: we start with a cautious dose and fine-tune the result at the follow-up visit two weeks later. This is a planned step, not a correction of an error.

Combining with lip contouring — why it makes sense

Most women who want to harmonise their smile line are also considering, or already having, lip contouring or augmentation. This is a natural combination — both corrections address the lower part of the face and together create a cohesive result. The doctor plans them together, choosing the order and intervals so the effects complement rather than overlap.
Importantly: correcting a gummy smile doesn't rule out fuller lips — quite the opposite, it harmonises proportions for a natural, multidimensional result.

Before an important event — when to plan

A wedding, a photoshoot, an important celebration — these are moments when your smile in photos matters especially. For this correction, the rule is simple: at least two, ideally three weeks before the event. This allows the effect to fully settle and — if needed — a minor touch-up at the follow-up. Don't leave it to the last minute.

Frequently asked questions

Will my smile look natural in photos after the treatment?
Yes — if the dose is correctly chosen, photos show a different proportion of exposed gum, not a changed smile. The expression stays genuine, visible in both still photos and video. A frozen-smile effect results from too high a dose, not from this procedure.
Won't the toxin near my mouth affect my speech or eating?
With a correct, small dose — no. The treatment relaxes one muscle that lifts the upper lip, not the muscles responsible for speech, biting or chewing. A temporary feeling of slight difference in the first few days is normal and passes once the dose settles.
Can I combine this treatment with lip augmentation at the same visit?
That depends on the doctor's plan — the two procedures are usually planned together or at short intervals. The doctor determines the optimal order during consultation, taking your goal and anatomy into account.
The effect lasts shorter than with forehead Botox — why?
The muscles around the mouth are among the most active on the face — they work with every word, every meal, every smile. This speeds up how the toxin metabolises in this area. The approximate duration is around 3–5 months — after that, the effect gradually fades and the smile returns to its pre-treatment state.
What if I don't like the result?
Botulinum toxin works reversibly — if the effect is too pronounced, the muscle will regain full function within a few months on its own. That's why the rule matters: we start with a small dose — it's safer to add more at a follow-up than to reverse something that can't be undone faster than nature allows.
