A tan without the sun
“in one evening”

Dreaming of golden skin but want to avoid the risks of sunbeds or hours in the sun? Spray tanning is a safe alternative.

A cosmetologist evenly sprays a DHA-based formula onto your body. This ingredient gently colours the upper layer of the epidermis. The result is a natural, warm bronze without a single UV ray. Your skin is not exposed to the sun. The tan looks like you have just returned from holiday. It appears in one evening and fades evenly without patches or streaks. At J'adore Instytut, the treatment is performed by a cosmetologist. Below, we have gathered everything you should know before your first visit.

How it works

How it works

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is at the heart of the treatment. This safe ingredient is derived from sugar beet. It reacts gently with amino acids in the upper layer of the epidermis. This reaction produces a natural bronze tone. It is the same mechanism as self-tanner but applied professionally and evenly.

Most importantly: DHA only colours dead skin cells on the surface. It does not go deeper and has nothing to do with UV radiation. This is why spray tanning is a safe alternative to the sun and sunbeds. Your skin is not tanned, but tinted.

A cosmetologist applies the formula using a professional airbrush. It sprays a fine mist. This ensures the colour is even across the whole body. There are no streaks, runs or patches typical of home application.

Three levels of skin in cross-section: the stratum corneum right at the top, the living epidermis beneath it, and deepest of all the dermis. The colour reaction takes place solely within the stratum corneum — exactly where the dead cells lie. The colour fades as the epidermis exfoliates, not from any deeper layer.
  1. Stratum corneumthe whole colour reaction happens here
  2. Living epidermisdeeper than this formula reaches
  3. Dermisa layer entirely beyond the reach of the treatment

Women's and men's zones

Who is spray tanning for

For her

A tan that works for you — not the other way around

Spray tanning for women is the most popular choice before weddings, holidays and photoshoots. We aim for a delicate, natural skin tone. It looks beautiful in photos and under light fabrics. We carefully match the shade to your skin tone. For weddings, we suggest a trial session.

The areas we support

  1. full body colour before a wedding;
  2. legs only — a shapely, tanned effect for a dress;
  3. natural bronze for a photoshoot, gala or event;
  4. shade matched to skin tone — from delicate to intense.
For him

A tan as a tool — not just an ornament

Spray tanning for men is a growing niche. Men choose it before photoshoots, events or competitions (e.g. bodybuilding). Tanned skin highlights muscle definition and looks healthy under spotlights. The goal: an even, masculine skin tone without a "painted" look. Find more for men in our men's zone.

The areas we support

  1. skin tone for photoshoots and physique photography;
  2. natural bronze for an event or trip;
  3. highlighting muscle definition before competitions.

Fun fact: DHA, which provides the bronze colour, was discovered by accident in the 1950s. It was being studied as a diabetes medication when researchers noticed it turned skin brown. Today, it is the same well-known ingredient used in all professional spray tanning and most self-tanners.

Safety

What to look out for

Spray tanning is one of our gentlest treatments. However, there are a few things to discuss before we start:

  1. Who performs it

    At J'adore, a cosmetologist performs the tanning. They assess your skin, choose the shade and apply the colour evenly, section by section. This is not the same as applying it yourself at home.

  2. Skin condition

    Skin must be healthy and undamaged. Fresh wounds, abrasions, active inflammation or irritation from hair removal will postpone the treatment until healed.

  3. This is not sun protection

    DHA tints the epidermis but does not protect against UV. You must still apply sunscreen when in the sun.

Red flag: peeling or hair removal just before tanning · Do not perform intensive acid peels or hair removal just before the treatment. Freshly exfoliated or irritated skin absorbs colour unevenly and loses it faster. Plan your peel and shaving/hair removal for the day before. We also postpone the treatment if you have active acne, open wounds, fresh abrasions or inflammation. The skin must heal first.

What to expect during your visit

  1. Shade selectionthe cosmetologist assesses your skin tone. Together, you decide on the intensity: from a subtle glow to a deep, holiday bronze.
  2. Skin preparationskin should be clean and dry. No lotion, perfume or deodorant. A peel done the day before gives the best result.
  3. The spraythe formula is applied with an airbrush in a fine mist. It covers the whole body or a selected zone (e.g. legs) section by section. You wear light underwear or disposable garments.
  4. Brief dryingthe colour "sets" on the skin. You receive tips on what to wear (loose, dark clothes).
  5. Developing at homefull colour appears after a few hours. This is when the formula finishes reacting with the epidermis.

What to expect

No surprises

Most importantly: the colour immediately after the spray is temporary. The full, final shade only appears after a few hours. This is when the DHA finishes reacting with the skin. You will see the final tan only after your first rinse. This is completely normal.

  1. Faza 1.Immediately afterinitial colour is visible; wear loose, dark clothing
  2. Faza 2.First few hourscolour gradually deepens — do not get wet, exercise or sweat
  3. Faza 3.After rinsingbronzer washes off, revealing the even, final tan
  4. Faza 4.Following daysthe bronze lasts several days and fades evenly as the epidermis exfoliates

What is normal immediately after the treatment

  • a layer of "cosmetic" colour (bronzer) on the skin — this washes off during the first rinse, leaving the actual tan underneath;
  • a slightly tacky feeling until fully dry — this is why we wear loose, dark clothes;
  • a subtle, characteristic scent during the first few hours — this disappears after rinsing.

The tan fades evenly and naturally. It happens as the epidermis exfoliates, without patches or streaks. To maintain it longer, daily body moisturising is key. Avoid harsh peels.

Aftercare

Step by step

The longevity and evenness of the colour depend 80% on what you do in the first hours and days. The rule is simple: do not let anything wash off or smudge the fresh colour in the first few hours. Then, focus on hydration.

  1. Shower and bath

    do not get wet for the first few hours

    This is the most important rule: do not get your skin wet for the first few hours. Water will wash away the fresh, undeveloped colour. Take your first shower only after the recommended time. Keep it short and lukewarm, without scrubbing.

  2. Training and sweating

    skip the first few hours

    Sweat smudges the fresh formula and creates streaks. Skip the gym, running and anything that warms you up in the first few hours after the spray.

  3. Sauna, pool, long baths

    a few days' break

    Chlorine, hot water and soaking shorten the life of the tan. They can also cause it to lighten unevenly. It is best to wait a few days.

  4. Body moisturising

    daily, from the next day

    This is your ally: daily lotion keeps the skin tone even and extends it by several days. Dry skin exfoliates faster and loses the tan unevenly.

  5. Peel

    only when you want the colour to fade

    A scrub is the enemy of a spray tan. It speeds up exfoliation and ends the tan. Only use it when you want to remove the colour.

  6. Clothing and daily life

    loose and dark at first

    Wear loose, dark clothes for the first few hours. Tight or light-coloured items may temporarily show bronzer marks (these wash out). After that, you can return to your normal routine.

When to postpone the treatment

Spray tanning is gentle, but in some cases, it is better to wait. Simply return when your skin is ready.

  1. Intensive acid peel or hair removal just beforefreshly exfoliated/irritated skin absorbs colour unevenly. Plan these for the day before.
  2. Active acne, open wounds, abrasions or inflammationthe skin must heal first.
  3. Fresh irritation or sunburnwait until the skin calms down.
  4. Known allergy / reaction to DHA or self-tannerswe advise against the treatment or suggest a patch test on a small area first.

This is not a complete list. We will discuss your skin condition and any concerns individually during your visit before we begin.

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionWill I look orange?
    AnswerNo, not if the shade is well-chosen. "Orange" results from a poor product or too much applied at home. A cosmetologist matches the intensity to your skin tone. The airbrush applies colour evenly. The result is a natural, warm bronze.
  2. QuestionWhen is the full colour visible?
    AnswerYou see the initial colour immediately. However, the full tan appears after a few hours once the DHA finishes reacting with the skin. You will see the final shade after your first rinse. This is normal.
  3. QuestionHow long does the tan last?
    AnswerUsually several days. It fades evenly as the epidermis exfoliates, without patches or streaks. Daily moisturising significantly extends the result.
  4. QuestionDoes the tan fade evenly?
    AnswerYes. This is one of the greatest benefits of spray tanning. The colour is even across the skin. When it starts to fade, it does so gradually and uniformly. It does not patch like a natural tan.

Spray tanning is a cosmetic, conditioning treatment. It only colours the upper layer of the epidermis. It does not protect against UV radiation and does not replace sunscreen. The text above is for informational purposes. We discuss the shade, variant and indications individually during your visit.
