Lip contouring for women

Your lips aren't one shape — they're your shape

This is by far the most common variant — lip augmentation for women. The goal is natural fullness, a defined, "clean" contour, a nicely shaped Cupid's bow and good hydration — all in proportion to the face. For some, we work on volume; for others, mainly on symmetry, shape, or lifting drooping corners.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Narrow, "disappearing" lips — lacking definition, "vanishing" when you smile.
  • A blurred or uneven contour and a faded Cupid's bow.
  • Asymmetry between the upper and lower lip, or between the two sides.
  • Age-related volume loss — "flattening" of the lips, fine vertical lines around the vermilion.
  • Drooping corners of the mouth — giving an impression of tiredness or "sadness".
  • Dry, chapped lips — when hydration and improved vermilion quality are the main priority.
  • Wanting a subtle enhancement of shape without a major change in volume.

The areas we work on

  1. natural fullness and a defined, even contour;
  2. correction of asymmetry and evening out the lip line;
  3. lifting drooping corners of the mouth;
  4. hydration and improved quality of chapped vermilion;
  5. part of a broader harmonisation of the lower face (chin, folds).

Your lips aren't one shape — they're your shape

Before asking "how many millilitres", it's worth asking something else: what shape are your lips? Because "beautiful lips" don't exist as a single universal template. A harmonious fullness looks different on a delicate, fine-boned face than on a strong one — with a defined jaw and high cheekbones. What reads as natural fullness on one face can immediately look like "too much" on another.
That's why a good plan starts with reading your proportions, not with a catalogue of effects from the internet. The doctor looks at the ratio of upper to lower lip (a harmonious ratio is roughly 1 to 1.5 in favour of the lower lip), the width of the mouth relative to the nose, the distance between the corners of the mouth, whether the upper lip "disappears" when you smile, and how much of your teeth you show. These proportions — not trends — determine whether we work on fullness, on contour, or simply on lifting the corners.
It's also worth knowing that lips on a phone photo and lips in the mirror are two different things. A wide-angle lens exaggerates the centre of the face, filters "add" fullness, and a favourite selfie often shows the lips at an angle nobody sees in everyday life. That's why, at consultation, what matters is how your lips look in motion and in conversation — not just in a single reference shot.

Lips and your daily routine — makeup, lipstick, photos

The biggest change after the treatment shows up in small habits in front of the mirror. A contoured lip means lip liner is no longer essential — the lips already have "definition", so lipstick sits more evenly and doesn't "bleed" over a blurred vermilion border. Matte lipsticks, which previously highlighted dryness and fine vertical lines, look completely different on hydrated lips — many women return, after years, to shades they used to avoid.
The logic of colour changes too. A fuller, better-contoured lip can "carry" a stronger red or an intense plum shade that looked overwhelming on narrower lips. On the other hand, if you're after a natural look, a simple gloss is enough — the work of a well-defined contour already shows, even without colour.
There's one window where it's worth skipping makeup: for roughly 24 hours after the treatment, we avoid lipstick and lip liner, until the small injection marks close up. This is purely a hygiene precaution, not an aesthetic one. It's a good idea to replace or thoroughly clean any brushes and applicators used that day.

Lips through different chapters of a woman's life

The same term — "lip augmentation" — means something different at different ages, because both the tissue and the goal change. We have a different conversation with a woman in her twenties than with one who wants to "get her lips back".
This is often the stage of life when lips stop being a goal in themselves and become part of a wider conversation about the face — and about what you actually want to highlight in it.
  • Your 20s. Lips are fully firm at this age, so the focus is mainly on shape, symmetry and contour definition, not on filling in loss. For the youngest clients (18–23), particular restraint is sensible: the face is still settling, and lip proportions can keep changing until the end of the third decade. It's also worth being cautious about trend pressure — what's "in" for lips today is often the first thing women want dissolved five years later.
  • Your 30s. A common moment of "I want this for myself, not for photos". A slight loss of freshness appears, and sometimes the topic of lips after pregnancy and breastfeeding comes up — when hormones and time have changed the quality of the vermilion. Here the treatment usually adds fullness and hydration, aiming for a rested look rather than a change.

Sensitivity, hormones and timing in your cycle

This is something rarely discussed, yet it has real practical relevance — and it's specifically a female consideration. Around the time of menstruation, tissues can be more swollen, tender and prone to bruising, and the pain threshold can be lower. If you have flexibility with dates, it's more comfortable to schedule the treatment outside this window — both for comfort and for judging the result calmly. This isn't a contraindication, just a small trick for less swelling and an easier recovery.
The same applies to water retention: on days when you feel "swollen all over", lips will react more too. If you want to assess the result as quickly as possible — say, because you have an event coming up — it's worth factoring this rhythm into your date choice, and mentioning it directly to the doctor.

Frequently asked questions

Is a filtered photo / my favourite selfie a good reference for the consultation?
Bring it — it's a useful clue to what you're looking for — but we treat it as a direction, not a 1:1 template. Filters and phone lenses distort proportions, and lips from a single shot don't always match how your face looks in motion. The doctor will translate "I like this" into what will genuinely work with your features.
I had my lips done years ago somewhere else and don't remember what was used — is that a problem?
Be sure to mention it. Old, unknown material — especially if it was irreversible or hard to identify — changes the plan. Sometimes it's worth first assessing what's already in the lip before adding anything new. This is a common situation and nothing to feel embarrassed about; what matters is that the doctor knows what they're working with.
I'm planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding — what happens to the result I already have?
We postpone the treatment itself during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but if you already have results from an earlier visit, there's nothing you need to "do" about them — hyaluronic acid will be absorbed naturally and doesn't require any intervention. You can return to lip contouring once breastfeeding ends.
I've had lip asymmetry "forever", not from ageing — can it be evened out?
Yes — and it's one of the more common reasons women visit us who don't want "bigger lips" at all. The doctor works locally in this case — filling in the weaker side rather than adding evenly everywhere. The goal is symmetry, not volume; often the amount of product needed is genuinely small, placed exactly where it's needed.
Is there a better time in the cycle for the treatment?
Yes, though it isn't a strict rule. Just before and during your period, tissues can be more sensitive and prone to swelling and bruising, so if you have flexibility with dates, it's more comfortable to schedule the treatment at another point in your cycle — healing and comfort tend to be easier then, and the result can be assessed sooner.
