Manual extraction — treatment at J'adore InstytutA treatment room at J'adore

FACIAL COSMETOLOGY

Clean pores
“controlled extraction”

Daily cleansing removes what sits on the surface — makeup, sebum, dust. It doesn't reach where the real problem lives: deep inside the pore, where blackheads, dried sebum and dead skin cells build up.

That's why you might think, "I wash my face twice a day and still get blackheads." Manual extraction does what no home product or pore strip can: controlled, hands-on extraction on skin that's already been softened with steam and an enzyme peel. This isn't "getting squeezed at the beautician's" — it's a hygienic, structured ritual. Skin is prepared first, then cleansed, then calmed and protected. At J'adore Instytut, an experienced cosmetologist performs the treatment. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your first visit.

  • Blackheads and blocked pores
  • Oily and combination skin
  • Enlarged pores
  • Comedonal (early-stage) acne
  • Grey, tired, "city" skin
  • Skin preparation before another treatment
  • Anyone for whom "home remedies aren't working"

How it works

How it works

Pores become blocked with a mix of sebum, dead skin cells and impurities. When this plug reaches air and oxidises, it turns dark — an open comedone, or "blackhead". When it stays trapped under the skin's surface, it forms a closed comedone, or "whitehead", which can easily develop into a blemish. Daily cleansing washes the surface, but it doesn't remove the plug from deep inside the pore — which is why blackheads keep coming back despite a consistent skincare routine.

Manual cleansing takes a different approach. First, we soften the skin using an enzyme peel and warm steam, opening the pore openings and loosening the plugs. Only then does the cosmetologist manually remove the contents of the pore using a controlled technique. The key word is "controlled": the right pressure, the right direction, proper hygiene — enough to empty the pore without damaging the skin around it. At the end, skin is toned, calmed and protected with SPF.

This is a beauty treatment, not a medical one — no needles, no skin puncturing. Its effectiveness comes from the cosmetologist's skilled hands and correct skin preparation before extraction, not from any device.

Three levels of skin in cross-section: the stratum corneum right at the top, the sebaceous gland openings within the epidermis beneath it, and deepest of all the dermis. Once the epidermis has been softened, the cosmetologist empties the pore openings; the dermis stays untouched. The treatment works at the surface — it does not go below the epidermis.
  1. Stratum corneumdead skin lifted during the treatment
  2. Sebaceous gland openingwhere the congestion is cleared from
  3. Dermisdeeper than this cleansing reaches

Ideal for

Ideal for

  1. Blackheads and blocked poresopen ("blackheads") and closed, most often on the nose, chin and forehead (the T-zone).
  2. Oily and combination skinshiny, with enlarged pores; regular cleansing helps stabilise sebum production.
  3. Enlarged poresonce cleansed and emptied, pores appear visibly smaller and less noticeable.
  4. Comedonal (early-stage) acneremoving blackheads before they progress into inflammatory blemishes; this is prevention, not treatment for severe acne.
  5. Grey, tired, "city" skinexposed to smog and dust; cleansing restores its freshness and lets it "breathe" again.
  6. Skin preparation before another treatmentas prep for a peel, mesotherapy or device-based treatment — active ingredients penetrate more effectively into clean skin.
  7. Anyone for whom "home remedies aren't working"pores that stay blocked despite daily cleansing and face masks are a typical sign that professional extraction is needed.

Did you know? Popular pore strips and home masks only pull away the tip of the blackhead — the visible part. The rest of the plug stays in the pore and reforms within days. Manual extraction empties the pore completely, which is why the result lasts weeks, not hours.

The women's zone and the men's zone

How they differ

For her

Your skin and your hormones — why manual cleansing works differently than you think

Manual cleansing for women is most often part of a regular routine for combination and oily skin: tackling blackheads in the T-zone, "resetting" pores burdened by makeup and city pollution, and preparing skin as a base for further treatments. It's also one of the few treatments that's safe during pregnancy — when acids, retinol and laser are off the table, cleansing stays available.

The areas we support

  1. blackheads on the nose and chin, "blocked" pores in the T-zone;
  2. skin burdened by makeup — cleansing as a regular reset;
  3. skin preparation before an important event (booked a few days ahead);
  4. safe skincare during pregnancy — no acids or retinol, with a gentle protocol.
For him

Thicker skin, more sebum, a different problem — why men's pores block faster

Manual cleansing for men is shaped by physiology: men's skin produces considerably more sebum on average, has larger pores and a thicker epidermis that sheds more slowly. The result is persistent blackheads despite daily cleansing. The goal: thoroughly empty pores, stabilise excess oil and smooth texture — which also makes shaving easier.

The areas we support

  1. blackheads and excess sebum despite daily cleansing;
  2. rough, uneven texture that makes shaving harder;
  3. comedonal and mild inflammatory acne (without severe pustular breakouts);
  4. we schedule shaving 24–48 hours after extraction — a razor too soon irritates the skin.

Did you know? Men often ask why they get blackheads "even though I wash more thoroughly than my partner." The paradox isn't real — it's not about hygiene, it's biology: larger, more active sebaceous glands. Washing more often won't fix it. Emptying the pores will.

Safety

What really determines the result

With manual cleansing, the result and its safety come down to three things worth asking about at any salon:

  1. Who performs it

    Extraction is a technique that takes training to master — at J'adore, it's carried out by an experienced cosmetologist who knows exactly how much pressure to apply and in which direction, to empty the pore without damaging the skin. Poor extraction leads to irritation, small scars and enlarged pores.

  2. Whether skin is prepared first

    Good cleansing isn't just "squeezing" — it involves an enzyme peel and steaming before extraction. Skip this step, and the treatment becomes painful and traumatic for the skin. If someone skips preparation and goes straight to extraction, that's a red flag.

  3. Hygiene and post-extraction calming

    Clean, single-use materials and a final calming step (toner, soothing/antibacterial product, mask, SPF) aren't extras — they're part of the treatment that protects against post-treatment inflammation.

Red flag: a suspiciously cheap "squeezing session" · A bargain price and a treatment that's really just dry extraction — no softening, no skin analysis, no calming step at the end — is the most common warning sign. You have every right to ask how skin is prepared before extraction and who performs the treatment. Squeezing at home in front of a mirror is even worse: dirty hands, too much pressure, no hygiene — the simplest route to scarring, hyperpigmentation and spreading a breakout.

Contraindications

When to postpone the treatment

Some contraindications are permanent, others are temporary — in which case we simply postpone the treatment until the situation passes. The treatment is non-invasive (no needles), so the main limiting factor is the condition of the skin in the treatment area.

We don't perform it
  • Active cold sores (Herpes)in or near the treatment area. The treatment could spread the virus — we postpone until it's fully healed.
  • Active skin infection or inflammationin the treatment area (such as impetigo or extensive pustular breakouts).
  • Active inflammatory or pustular (severe) acnethis requires dermatological care; extraction could worsen the condition. Manual cleansing is suited to comedonal and mild acne, not severe pustular acne.
  • Rosacea and pronounced broken capillariesthese call for a modified protocol (less or no steaming, gentler extraction) or a milder alternative, such as hydro cleansing.
  • Fresh sunburn, fresh wounds and unhealed lesionsin the treatment area.
  • Allergy to productsused in the treatment (enzyme peel, masks).
  • A recent, intensive chemical peel or exfoliating treatmentwe wait until skin has recovered, so as not to overload it.

From the cosmetologist's chair

The most commonly overlooked issue: cold sores. "I only have a small one on my lip, and cleansing is for the whole face — that's not a problem, right?" It is — an active virus can easily spread while working on the skin. It's better to postpone by a few days and come back once the skin has healed.

This isn't a complete list — we'll review your skin condition, medical history and previous treatments individually during your consultation.

Safe during pregnancy

Manual cleansing is one of the few beauty treatments that's safe during pregnancy — precisely because it doesn't use acids, retinol, laser or needles. The cosmetologist adjusts the protocol (gentler products, cautious steaming). Always disclose pregnancy to your specialist before the treatment.

The visit

What to expect during your visit

  1. Manual extraction — treatment at J'adore Instytut — Makeup removal and skin assessment

    Makeup removal and skin assessment

    the cosmetologist removes makeup and assesses your skin type, level of congestion and sebaceous gland activity. This determines which products and treatment intensity to use.

  2. Manual extraction — treatment at J'adore Instytut — Enzyme peel

    Enzyme peel

    an enzyme (such as papain) gently loosens dead skin cells and softens pore contents, preparing skin for extraction without harsh mechanical abrasion.

  3. Manual extraction — treatment at J'adore Instytut — Steaming (vapozone)

    Steaming (vapozone)

    warm steam hydrates skin and opens pore openings; this step is what makes extraction effective and significantly more comfortable.

  4. Manual extraction

    the cosmetologist empties blackheads and blocked pores using a controlled technique. This is the core of the treatment — it calls for experience and precision.

  5. Toning and calming (darsonval)

    skin is toned, and often calmed using darsonval (a high-frequency current with antibacterial and pore-tightening effects) along with a soothing serum.

  6. A mask matched to your skin type + SPF

    clay for oily skin, soothing or hydrating for sensitive or dry skin; sun protection to finish. Skin comes away clean, refreshed and protected.

What to expect

No surprises

The best news: the clean-pore effect is visible right away. Unlike treatments that "build up" over weeks, you leave the salon with noticeably cleaner, smoother skin. You just need to allow for a brief post-extraction reaction.

  1. Faza 1.immediatelyclean, refreshed pores; a visible difference in skin texture
  2. Faza 2.1–2 dayspost-extraction redness fades and skin evens out
  3. Faza 3.around a weekpores noticeably cleaner and less visible, less shine
  4. Faza 4.after a series of 3–4lasting improvement in skin condition and more stable sebum production
Some clients write the day after their first visit to say "my skin looks worse, a spot came out." This is usually skin clearing out something that was already sitting below the surface and was going to appear anyway — the treatment simply sped up the process. After 1–2 days, skin settles down. That's why we never schedule cleansing the day before an important event.

What's normal right after the treatment

  • localised redness at extraction sites — most pronounced on heavily congested skin, fading within 1–2 days;
  • a mild warming or "tight" feeling in the skin for a few hours;
  • occasionally, a single spot appears in the following days — this is skin finishing its own cleansing process, not a setback.

The result of a single treatment usually lasts 2–4 weeks, depending on sebaceous gland activity and home skincare. With regular visits every 4–6 weeks, skin stays in consistently good condition, and blackheads return more slowly.

Cleansing and your lifestyle

What you can and can't do, and when

Most questions aren't about the treatment itself, but about what comes after: makeup, sun, sauna, swimming pool. There's one guiding rule — for the first few hours and days, freshly extracted skin is more delicate and more permeable, so we go easy on it and avoid anything irritating.

  1. Makeup

    skip it for 4–6 hours

    Right after extraction, pores are open — makeup could block them again and cause irritation. It's best applied the next day, once skin has settled.

  2. Sun and SPF

    SPF 50+ for a few days

    Freshly cleansed skin is more prone to UV damage and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Avoid intense sun and sunbeds for a few days, and apply SPF 50+ every morning.

  3. Sauna and hammam

    wait around 24 hours

    High temperatures and sweat dilate blood vessels and can irritate freshly cleansed skin. Hold off on the sauna for at least a day.

  4. Swimming pool

    wait around 24 hours

    Chlorine irritates skin with open pores. Best to wait around 24 hours before the pool or jacuzzi.

  5. Home peels and retinol

    pause for a few days

    Skip mechanical peels, acids and retinol for a few days — the treatment has already exfoliated your skin, and adding more exfoliation risks irritation. Cleanse gently, without exfoliating granules.

  6. Daily skincare

    moisturise straight away

    Gentle hydration (hyaluronic acid serum, soothing cream) is actually recommended from day one. For men: hold off on shaving for 24–48 hours, as a razor too soon after extraction irritates the skin.

Manual extraction

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionDoes manual cleansing hurt?
    AnswerThe extraction phase can be noticeable — most of all at your first visit after a long break, or with heavily congested skin — but it shouldn't be intensely painful. The enzyme peel and steaming beforehand soften the skin and the blackheads, so discomfort stays minimal. Each subsequent visit gets easier, as skin is less congested.
  2. QuestionHow long does it take?
    AnswerUsually around an hour — this is a staged treatment: makeup removal, enzyme peel, steaming, extraction, calming and mask. Duration depends on how congested the skin is; a first visit after a longer break may take a little longer.
  3. QuestionDo I need to arrive without makeup?
    AnswerIt's not essential — makeup removal is the first step of the treatment. If you can arrive without makeup, it saves time and lets the cosmetologist assess your skin condition right away, but it's not a requirement.
