A treatment room at J'adoreHANDS & FEET
Hands reveal more than the face — you notice them with every gesture, every handshake, every time you hold a coffee cup. Dry cuticles, a brittle nail plate, chipped polish can spoil even the best styling. Manicure is not just colour on the nails — it's care that tidies the hand from cuticle to nail shape. At J'adore, we choose the right option for your lifestyle and nail condition: from a natural, discreet finish, through a lasting hybrid, to strengthening and extension with gel.
The treatment is performed by a nail stylist. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your visit — how the options differ, how long they last and how to care for them.

HANDS & FEET
Manicure is comprehensive care for your hands and nails, not just colour on the plate. A full treatment includes shortening and shaping, cuticle care, smoothing and nourishing the nail plate — and only at the end, optionally, colour or nail art. This care stage is what determines how your hands look and how long the result lasts.
At J'adore, we choose your manicure based on nail condition and lifestyle — one option works better for hands used actively at work, another for nails weakened by frequent hybrid manicures, and another still when maximum colour durability matters most. Your stylist assesses nail condition and recommends what will give the best lasting result.
Fact: a healthy nail grows slowly — the journey from the base to the free edge takes several months. That's why "regrowth" appears near the cuticles after styling: it's not a sign that something has gone wrong, just that the nail is growing naturally. This is why hybrid and gel infills are planned every few weeks, in step with natural nail growth.
How it works
Manicure works on two independent structures at once: the nail plate and the surrounding skin fold. The plate is made of compacted, keratinised layers — by the time it emerges from under the fold, it's already dead tissue, which is why trimming, filing and buffing cause no sensation. What's alive is the matrix hidden at the base: it produces new layers, and its condition determines what the nail will look like in a few weeks. Your stylist therefore works on two timelines at once — what's visible today, and the conditions for what's yet to grow.
The second timeline is the cuticle — a thin membrane sealing the gap between the plate and the fold, protecting the matrix from water, detergents and micro-organisms. This is why cuticle care means softening and pushing back, never cutting into living tissue: an intact barrier is essential for the coating to sit evenly right up to the base. Coatings themselves work differently from ordinary polish — they don't dry, they cure: under lamp light, tiny resin molecules bond into a uniform, hard network fused with the smoothed plate. This is what gives the colour its chip resistance, and why such a coating is removed at the salon, never peeled off with a fingernail.

Fact: the pale half-moon at the base of the nail — the lunula — is the only visible part of the matrix, the living "factory" that produces the plate; the rest works hidden beneath the skin fold. It's most visible on the thumb, and in some people it's barely noticeable — both are perfectly normal.

Manicure options
The single word "manicure" covers several quite different services. It's not about which is "better" — each meets a different need and a different nail condition.
Popular shapes: almond, oval and natural square. We choose the shape based on finger length, plate width, and how intensively you use your hands — often more important to the result than colour itself.
Women's and men's manicure
Manicure for women is usually a full ritual: cuticle care, shape modelling and a finish with colour, french, baby boomer effect or natural shine. This is where the widest choice of options and nail art lives — from discreet "nude" to bold, occasion styling.
The areas we support
Manicure for men is above all about care and tidiness, with no colour: shortening, evening the shape, cuticle care and a matte, invisible finish. An increasingly popular choice for men who care about detail — we cover it separately in men's manicure.

The visit

Assessment of hands and plate
the stylist checks the condition of your nails and cuticles, asks about your expectations and lifestyle, and chooses the right option.

Shortening and shape
evening the length and shaping the edge (almond, oval, square).

Cuticle care
softening and gently removing excess, so the plate "breathes" and looks clean.

Plate preparation
smoothing, degreasing; with hybrid/gel, applying base coat and curing it under the lamp in layers.

Finish
colour, french, baby boomer or natural shine (Japanese); finally, nourishing the cuticles with oil.
What to expect
Manicure requires no recovery — you leave the salon with finished, dry nails (immediately with hybrid and gel, with no risk of smudging). What determines durability happens at home: regular cuticle oiling and plate protection.
Visit duration depends on the option — classic or Japanese is a shorter visit, while hybrid with painting, and especially gel with extension, is a longer styling session. Your stylist will let you know how long your chosen option will take.

Changes on the plate worth checking before styling, not covering with colour: persistent redness, pain or swelling around the nail, greenish or yellow-brown discolouration, crumbling and layering of the plate, suspected fungal infection, or the nail separating from the nail bed. In these cases, diagnosis comes first — for foot nail issues and problems like ingrown nails, our podologist will guide you (podology treatment), and for suspected skin/plate disease — a dermatologist. Polish or gel applied over a diseased plate only masks the problem and can make it worse. Separately: if you've ever had an allergic reaction to gel or acrylic resins (itching, small blisters, peeling skin around the nails), please mention it before the treatment — we'll choose a safe option.
Manicure is safe during pregnancy — it's external care. We ensure good ventilation at the station, and if you'd rather avoid scents, we'll choose the Japanese option with no polish. Mention any concerns to your stylist.
Manicure and your lifestyle
How long a manicure lasts depends largely on what you do after leaving the salon. The plate and coating like hydration, and dislike constant soaking in water or harsh chemicals without gloves.
The most important habit for durability and appearance. Cuticle oiling and hand cream maintain flexibility and delay the coating "lifting" at the base.
Detergents and long soaking in hot water shorten hybrid life and dry out the plate. Household chemicals — best handled with gloves on.
Chlorine and hot water weaken shine and adhesion. Hybrid and gel withstand them better than classic polish, but it's still worth limiting soaking time.
If you use your hands a lot (gardening, workshop, childcare), gel offers more resilience than hybrid, and hybrid more than classic.
Peeling hybrid or gel off with your fingernail lifts the top layer of the plate and weakens it for weeks. Leave removal to your stylist.
Intense sun can slightly shift the shade of light colours. Hand cream with SPF protects both the colour and the skin itself from ageing.

Most obstacles are temporary — we simply postpone the treatment until the situation passes. A few require diagnosis first.
