Your skin, your anatomy — why threads work differently for women

Women's skin is thinner than men's — with less structural collagen and less supporting muscle mass beneath the tissue. After the age of thirty, collagen production drops by around 1% a year, and after menopause the rate of loss speeds up noticeably. The result? The facial contour loses definition sooner, the cheeks droop downward, nasolabial folds deepen, and neck skin turns lax earlier than we'd like.
That's why a doctor plans a thread treatment differently for a woman than for a man — choosing the thread type and number based on individual anatomy: skin thickness, degree of tissue sagging, collagen quality, and aesthetic goal. There's no one-size-fits-all setting — we tailor the parameters precisely to your face.

What threads do for a woman's face

Women most often come to us with three concerns that lifting threads address directly:
The result is always natural — the face looks rested and rejuvenated, not "pulled". This is one of the most common questions women ask before the treatment, and we answer it directly: a well-performed thread lift leaves no visible signs of intervention. It simply restores what gravity and time have taken away.
  • Loss of contour — a jawline that used to be defined now blurs. Cog threads mechanically anchor the tissue and restore the contour.
  • Drooping cheeks — the mid-face loses fullness, and a shadow of a "tired" face appears. Threads lift the tissue upward, restoring a higher position for the cheekbone within the overall expression.
  • Laxity of the neck and décolletage — a mesh of mono threads placed under the skin stimulates collagen and improves firmness where creams simply can't reach deep enough.

Skincare and threads — what you can use, and what should wait

If your daily skincare includes active ingredients — retinoids, AHA/BHA acids, high-strength vitamin C — you need to know how to fit the treatment into your regular routine.
After threads are placed, your skin needs calm for the first two weeks. That means a pause on retinol and exfoliating acids — not because they're harmful, but because intense cell renewal and localised tenderness don't mix well during this period. After two weeks, you can return to your routine — including active ingredients, which will actually be absorbed even more effectively by skin that's better oxygenated and stimulated after the treatment.
You can apply makeup as soon as 24 hours after the treatment — except directly over the thread entry points, where the skin needs a few more days.

Frequently asked questions

Will my face look "done" after threads?
No, not if the treatment is performed by an experienced doctor with a precise plan. A thread lift raises tissue where it has dropped — it doesn't change your features or facial proportions. The result is a naturally refreshed look. At J'adore Instytut, the doctor always discusses the expected result with you and shows you the plan before the treatment.
Can I have this treatment if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are absolute contraindications for lifting threads. If you're planning another pregnancy, discuss the optimal timing for the treatment with your doctor during consultation.
When can I go back to retinol and acids after the treatment?
After 14 days. For the first two weeks, use gentle hydration and SPF 50+. Reintroduce retinoids and exfoliating acids gradually after that period — your skin will be better prepared to receive them following the treatment.
Can I combine threads with other facial treatments I already do?
Yes — lifting threads work well alongside hyaluronic acid, botulinum toxin and PRP. The key is the right order and appropriate intervals between treatments. Your doctor at J'adore Instytut will plan the sequence individually — usually threads as the lifting foundation, with complementary treatments following a few weeks later.
How long after the treatment should I avoid saunas and intense exercise?
Avoid saunas, hot baths and intense physical exercise for the first two weeks. Heat and increased blood flow can worsen swelling and raise the risk of thread displacement during the early healing stage. After two weeks, you can return to your usual activity without restrictions.
