What lash styling does — and why it isn't a "women's treatment"
Lash lift and lamination are two similar treatments that change the angle and appearance of your own lashes — without adding anything to your face day to day. In short: lashes point upward instead of growing horizontally or downward. This makes the eye look clearer and more open, and the face more rested and energised.
The idea that this is a "women's treatment" comes from years of marketing it purely as an alternative to false lashes. But anatomy has no gender — a man's lashes respond to these treatments exactly the same way a woman's do. The only difference is what you expect from the result. A woman might want a dramatic curl. You might just want your lashes to stop lying flat against the lid, so you look like someone who's had a good night's sleep.
Lift vs lamination — which to choose
Both treatments work in a similar way, but with different emphases. Before your consultation, it helps to know the difference:
Lash lift
a classic curl
- Lashes are set upward on silicone rods
- Result: a lasting curl to the lash line for several weeks
- Works best if your lashes are straight or point downward
- Often combined with keratin or a strengthening conditioner
Lash lamination
a curl plus a fuller look
- Lashes are lifted at the root — the effect is straighter rather than curled
- Lashes settle next to each other, which visually thickens the line
- Works better on lashes that are dense but unruly
- Often combined with henna or tinting (subtle colouring)
Which treatment is better for you? It depends on your lashes and your goal. Your specialist will assess during your consultation whether your lashes are straight and short (lift works better) or dense and unruly (lamination works better). The two effects can also be combined. You don't need to decide on the spot — assessing your lashes is part of the visit.
Who benefits — and when it makes sense
Not every man needs lash lamination. But there are a few cases where the result can be clear and genuinely useful:
- Straight or downward-pointing lashes. If your lashes grow horizontally or toward your cheek, your eyes look smaller and more tired than they actually are. A lift is enough to change that.
- Dense but unruly lashes. Strong lashes growing in different directions can look untidy. Lamination brings them into one direction and gives your eye line a clear shape.
- Men who are photographed often. In photos, video calls, PR materials — a clearer gaze makes a difference you might not notice "by definition", but you'll see it in the result.
- Active men who don't want anything on their face. Training, sauna, swimming — the treatment holds up through all of it. Nothing runs, nothing smudges into your eyes.
What the treatment involves — step by step
Men often ask about this first, because the idea sounds worse than the reality. The treatment itself is simple and non-invasive — you lie down with your eyes closed while your specialist does the work.
- 01
Assessment and consultation
Your specialist examines your lashes — their length, density, direction of growth. She chooses the right rod size (lift) or technique (lamination) and answers your questions.
- 02
Protecting the skin around the eye
Silicone pads are placed on the lower eyelid — separating the upper lashes from the lower ones. Nothing touches the eyeball.
- 03
Setting the lashes
Lashes are placed on the rod or lifted at the root and fixed in place with a special gel. This is where the treatment does its work.
- 04
Care and setting
Further products are applied — nourishing, strengthening, and setting the result. Lashes can also be tinted with henna or a colour tint.
- 05
Finishing
Rods or pads are removed from the lashes. The result is visible straight away — lashes lifted, set and clearly defined.
For a few hours after the treatment, avoid water and steam so the product can set fully. After that, you can do anything — the gym, a shower, swimming, sauna. The only thing to avoid for the first day or so is rubbing your eyes or sleeping face-down in your pillow. That's it.
Do you end up looking "done"
That's the right question — and it deserves a straight answer. No. A lash lift or lamination for men, done properly, gives a result no one can quite name. People see that you look better. They don't see what you did — because there's no product, no shine, no line that reads as makeup.
A "done" look comes from the wrong choices — a rod that's too small (giving too tight a curl for a man's lashes), or tinting that's too intense. A good specialist chooses the technique for your lashes and your look — not a template from Instagram. If you say "I want it to be invisible", that's exactly what you'll get.
Combine treatments — because the eye area isn't everything
Lash lift often gives the best result alongside other treatments that work on the face area. This isn't about a "beauty package" — it's about consistency: a rested gaze, well-cared-for skin and a defined brow line together achieve far more than any one of them alone.
Lash lift + brow shaping
Brows and lashes share one visual field. Well-groomed, defined brows enhance the effect of a lift — and the other way round. Together, they create a clear, cohesive eye area.
Lash lamination + tinting (henna)
Colouring the lashes a darker shade after lamination makes the line even more defined — without any mascara. The effect is clearly visible in photos and in natural light.
Lash lift + facial skincare
A rested eye against nourished, even skin gives a complete well-groomed look. If your skin is grey and fatigued, the lash treatment alone won't fix that.
