Grey and fair hair where laser stops working

After the age of 35, some hair starts turning grey — and those exact hairs become invisible to laser. You finish a laser series with 80% results, and scattered fair and grey hairs remain on the nape, hairline or ears. Laser responds to melanin — without it, the handpiece has nothing to target. Electrolysis destroys the hair papilla with electric current directly in the follicle, regardless of hair colour. One pulse, one follicle, one lasting result.

For men with mixed hair growth — some dark, some grey — the optimal approach combines both methods: laser reduces dark hair quickly over a large area, while electrolysis permanently removes the rest. A complete result, without compromise.

Nape, ears, nose, hairline — zones that demand precision

Laser works with a handpiece over an area — in precise zones, where every millimetre matters, that lack of precision can be a problem. The hairline on the cheek or chin, the nape under a haircut, hairs in the ears and nose — these are places where electrolysis has an advantage no other method can match.

A needle matched in thickness to the specific follicle follows the channel and destroys the papilla with pinpoint precision. Surrounding tissue is not affected. Every destroyed follicle stops regenerating — the hair from that follicle will not grow back.

Ingrown hairs along the hairline are a separate problem. Regular shaving of thick, springy hair leads to inflammation, bumps and unsightly redness. Permanently removing the follicle eliminates the cause — a hair that no longer exists can't grow inward.

Male hair anatomy — why parameters need to differ

Men's hair — especially on the face — is thicker, more deeply rooted and better supplied with blood vessels than women's. The hair papilla sits deeper, and the follicle is stronger. This means the electrical pulse parameters are selected individually for the anatomy of each zone and each follicle — there's no single setting for everyone. Precise selection means a precise result.

After the treatment, redness is usually minimal and fades within a few hours — with no signs visible the next day. With dense hair on the nape, the session takes longer, but every follicle treated is a follicle eliminated for good.

Shaving between sessions — yes or no

Between electrolysis sessions, shaving is fine and doesn't affect treatment effectiveness — the follicle remains intact beneath the skin's surface. What to avoid: plucking, waxing and depilatory creams. The follicle needs to be visible to the specialist on the day of your visit — the hair should be growing from its channel so the needle can follow the correct path.

It's best to arrive with 3–5 days of growth in the treatment zone — enough for the specialist to target the follicles precisely.

Frequently asked questions

Can I shave my nape between sessions?

Yes — shaving is allowed and doesn't disrupt the process. The follicle remains intact beneath the skin. Avoid plucking with tweezers and waxing — these deform the follicle channel and make precise needle placement harder. Come to your session with 3–5 days of growth.

Can I go to the gym after the treatment?

For the first 24–48 hours, we recommend avoiding intense physical activity — sweating and a raised body temperature can irritate open follicles and increase redness. After 48 hours, you can return to full activity without restrictions.

Will anyone notice I've had this done?

Redness right after the treatment usually fades within a few hours. In precise zones (nape, ears), the result is practically invisible by the next day. Most men book sessions after work — and no one at the office notices a thing.

Can I combine electrolysis with a laser series?

Yes — that's the optimal approach for mixed hair growth. Laser reduces dark hair quickly over a large area, while electrolysis permanently removes the remaining fair and grey hairs. We plan the order and timing of sessions for both methods during the consultation, so they don't overlap and give a complete result.

How much time does it take, and how many sessions do I need?

Precise zones (nape, ears, nose) — usually 4–8 sessions every 4–8 weeks, depending on hair density and growth rate. A session on the nape can take 20–40 minutes. Follow-up after laser (a few remaining hairs) takes fewer sessions, since there's less to treat. We'll set the exact plan at a free consultation after assessing the zone.
