When laser wasn't enough — or was never an option

Fair, red and grey hairs are invisible to laser — no melanin, no reaction. If you have fair skin and fair hair, you've probably heard for years that "laser isn't for you." Electrolysis works differently: the needle goes straight into the follicle and destroys the hair papilla with electric current — colour makes no difference here. This method works for light and dark phototypes, for blonde, red and grey hair, and for atopic and sensitive skin.

For women with hormonal hair growth — PCOS, menopause, hormone therapy — this is often the only method that gives real control. The blend technique (combining alternating and direct current) is especially effective on follicles strengthened by androgens: it combines the heat of thermolysis with the chemical action of electrolysis, reaching deeper into the papilla. Existing follicles are destroyed permanently — new ones that may appear due to hormones require further sessions. This is hair growth control, not a one-off, once-and-for-all solution.

Face, upper lip, chin — the areas women hide

Facial hair is one of the most emotionally taxing concerns women bring to J'adore. Upper lip, chin, cheeks, jawline — shaving lasts a few hours, plucking with tweezers lasts a few days, and the skin gets increasingly irritated. Electrolysis is the only method that eliminates the follicle permanently, hair by hair.

Precision matters most on the face — here we don't work a handpiece over an area, but a needle matched to a specific follicle. The skin around the mouth and on the chin is thinner and more richly innervated, so choosing the right pulse settings and method is especially important here. Treatment parameters are selected individually based on hair thickness, follicle depth and the sensitivity of the zone — there's no single setting that fits everyone.

Years of waxing? It can make results harder to achieve

Women who have regularly waxed or plucked hair with tweezers for years often develop follicles with an abnormal growth direction — bent, pushed in, ingrown. The needle has to follow the follicle channel precisely for the pulse to reach the papilla. A deformed follicle lengthens the therapy and demands greater precision from the specialist.

That's why, before a series of electrolysis sessions, we ask for a minimum of 2–3 weeks without plucking or waxing — the hair needs to grow from a channel that lets the needle follow the correct path. Shaving is fine — it doesn't deform the follicle.

Skin during the series — what changes on facial skin

Straight after the treatment, the zone is red, and small bumps may appear (a follicle reaction). These settle within 24–48 hours. On the face — where makeup is a daily habit — it's worth planning sessions for the evening or before a day without plans, though with proper cooling and care, redness often fades within a few hours.

Throughout the series, the skin needs gentle care: no exfoliating acids, retinol or strong active ingredients directly the day before or after the treatment. Alcohol-based products and harsh toners should be paused for the duration of the sessions. SPF 50+ on the treated zone is essential throughout the whole series, especially in summer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear makeup after facial electrolysis?

For the first 24 hours after the treatment, skin should be makeup-free — the follicles are open and prone to irritation. After that, you can go back to your usual skincare and makeup routine. Plan sessions for the evening or a day without important events — that's the simplest approach.

I'm breastfeeding — can I start a series?

Electrolysis is not recommended during pregnancy. While breastfeeding, the decision depends on your individual hormonal situation — we'll discuss this at a free consultation. Lactation hormones can affect follicle activity, which is worth factoring in when planning the series.

I use retinol and acids — when do I need to stop?

Retinol and exfoliating acids (AHA, BHA) increase skin sensitivity and thin the skin barrier. We recommend a 5–7 day break before the treatment and a minimum of 48 hours after. If you've been using strong prescription products (such as tretinoin), we'll set the break individually during the consultation.

Will the result look natural — won't skin with no hair at all look artificial?

Electrolysis removes hair from selected zones — the ones that bother you. No one looks at your upper lip and notices it's gone; they see your face. The result is precise and discreet. You decide which hairs to eliminate completely and which to simply thin out — you're in full control.

Can I combine electrolysis with other facial treatments?

Yes, but with appropriate gaps. Plan laser treatments, chemical peels or mesotherapy at least 2 weeks apart from an electrolysis session. You can combine care treatments (cleansing, hydration) — but on the day of electrolysis, the face should be clean and free of active products.
