Hair colouring for men

Colouring for men — well-groomed, not "done"

For men, colouring is usually discreet and natural — most often it's about grey coverage or gently evening out colour, without a "dyed" look. This is colouring for men: it should be invisible in effect, simply taking a few years of tiredness off your face.

The areas we work on

  1. discreet coverage or "blurring" of grey at the temples and in the beard;
  2. natural darkening without a harsh, flat block of colour;
  3. the effect of "you look well-rested," not "you changed your colour."

Colouring for men — well-groomed, not "done"

For men, colouring most often means discreet grey coverage — the aim is to look natural and fresh, not like a single flat block of colour. That's the difference between what an experienced colourist does for a man and a box dye from the drugstore, after which people suddenly notice something's off.
Men's hair has its own characteristics: it's usually thicker, coarser, and grows faster. Grey hair in men often shows up first at the temples and in the beard, then spreads across the head — and that's exactly where the work begins. We choose a semi-transparent colour that blends into the natural shade, rather than covering it with a flat block. The result: people notice you look good — not that you've changed, or coloured your hair.

What we do for men's colouring

  • Discreet grey coverage — full or partial, depending on how much grey there is and your preference; a semi-transparent option blends grey rather than masking it under a heavy layer of pigment.
  • Natural darkening — no harsh, flat block of colour; we match it to your natural hair and skin tone.
  • Grey coverage in the beard — if you have facial hair, we can keep the colour of your head and beard consistent.
  • Shade correction — for hair coloured over the years, or hair that's drifted into unwanted tones from previous colouring, we can gently even it out.

What a visit looks like — for men

The consultation is quick: your stylist assesses your skin tone, natural shade and how much grey you have, then mixes a colour matched to you — not straight from a box. Application is fast, with a shorter processing time than a full women's colour service. You leave with or without a haircut, depending on what you're after. The colour is invisible in effect: no one will see that you've been to a stylist — they'll just see that you look good.
If you want the full effect, colour and cut under one roof is a natural pairing. See men's haircuts.

Frequently asked questions

Will anyone notice I'm colouring my hair?
With a well-matched, semi-transparent coverage — no. People see that you look fresh and well-groomed; they don't notice a specific change. An unnatural look comes from colour chosen too dark or applied too uniformly — which is exactly what we avoid. The key is choosing the shade in daylight, matched to your natural tone.
How quickly will regrowth show — how long can I go between visits?
This depends on technique and how much coverage you have. With discreet, semi-transparent coverage, regrowth shows more gently than with full permanent colour. Most men come back every 4–8 weeks, depending on how fast their hair grows and how much the regrowth bothers them.
Can I colour just my beard, not my hair?
Yes — grey coverage for the beard is a separate service we can do independently of your head colour. It's nice when beard and hair colour match, but it's not required. Your stylist will choose a shade to suit your beard.
Is there anything I should avoid after colouring?
The basics are the same as for women: shampoo for coloured hair instead of a strongly cleansing one, cooler rinsing, and waiting a day or two before the first wash. With short hair, colour fades faster anyway — which is why a regrowth visit is a natural part of most men's grooming routine.
