Acne programme for women

Adult women's acne — not a teenage problem

In women, acne after age 25 often has a hormonal background and favours specific locations — chin, jawline, around the mouth — with flare-ups at a particular phase of the cycle. Skin can also be more sensitive, so we choose gentler concentrations and a slower pace. This is a classic acne treatment for women.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Active inflammatory acne — red papules and pustules we aim to calm first.
  • Comedonal acne — blackheads and whiteheads, "clogged" skin, rough texture.
  • Excess oil and enlarged pores — an oily T-zone, visible pores.
  • Post-acne hyperpigmentation (PIH) — brown and pink marks left after healed lesions.
  • Acne scars — atrophic (ice pick, boxcar, rolling) — we address these in the second phase of the programme.
  • Adult acne — lesions on the chin and jawline after age 25, often with a hormonal background.
  • Back and décolletage acne — a larger surface area, the same mechanism.
  • Skin that's "good one day, bad the next" — when home care stops being enough and a plan is needed.

The areas we work on

  1. adult acne on the chin and jawline — often hormonal;
  2. PIH (hyperpigmentation) — women report this more often than the breakouts themselves;
  3. coordination with a dermatologist/gynaecologist for hormonal cases;
  4. a gentler introduction of acids and retinol, plenty of focus on skin tone.

Adult women's acne — not a teenage problem

If you're 25, 30, 40 and still struggling with breakouts — you're not alone, and it's not your fault. Adult women's acne has a different background to the acne of your school years: hormonal fluctuations (cycle, contraception, pregnancy, perimenopause), stress-related cortisol, lack of sleep, and — paradoxically — intensive skincare with too many active ingredients at once. Women's skin produces less sebum than men's skin, but it's more reactive to hormonal changes. The jawline and chin area is the classic map of hormonal acne — lesions appear regularly, almost on a schedule.
The acne treatment at J'ADORE isn't about treating a single breakout. It's an 8-week programme designed around the anatomy and biology of women's skin: a calming phase, a brightening phase, and a home protocol tailored to your specific skincare cycle.

Skin under makeup — the vicious circle we break

Women far more often than men cover acne lesions with foundation and concealer — and that's understandable. The problem is that poorly chosen makeup products (comedogenic pigments, heavy textures, long-wear formulas) keep pores clogged. On top of that, incorrectly removed evening makeup leaves residue that ferments overnight.
During the consultation we assess not just the condition of your skin, but also your skincare and makeup routine. We suggest alternatives: lightweight foundations with niacinamide, mattifying primers with salicylic acid, a two-step makeup removal technique. Changing these habits often delivers results as significant as in-salon treatments alone — and it works around the clock, not just during sessions.

Hormones, your cycle and acne — what's worth knowing before the programme

Women's skin lives on a hormonal rhythm. In the follicular phase (days 1–14 of the cycle), sebum is moderate — skin responds more easily to peels. In the luteal phase (days 15–28), progesterone boosts sebum production, pores narrow, and susceptibility to inflammation rises. That's why salicylic peels give women their best results when we plan them deliberately around cycle phase — we time sessions to work within the window of highest skin receptivity to cleansing.
If you use hormonal contraception or are in the process of changing it — tell us at the consultation. It affects ingredient selection in your home protocol and the pace of expected results. We don't judge — we need the full picture to select the right dose and quantity of products matched to your anatomy and goal.

Retinol, acids and other actives — do I have to give them up?

Not necessarily — but you'll probably need to organise when and what you use. One of the most common reasons well-cared-for women's acne worsens is too many active ingredients at once: retinol + glycolic acid + niacinamide + vitamin C — each valuable on its own, but together they can compromise the skin barrier and increase inflammation.
In the acne programme, we standardise your home protocol: one acid in the evening (usually 0.25% retinol or azelaic acid, depending on the treatment phase), niacinamide with zinc in the morning, and mattifying SPF50 as the final step. We pause AHA acids while inflammation is active — they return in the PIH reduction phase, once lesions have calmed.

Scars and hyperpigmentation — what remains after healing

Pink and brown marks left by breakouts (PIH — post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) are, for many women, a bigger problem than the acne itself. They linger for months, are hard to conceal, and some home acids and peels can worsen them if used incorrectly. At J'ADORE we treat post-acne hyperpigmentation in the second phase of the programme: BioRePeel and Dermapen with EstGen stimulate skin remodelling from within. Results are gradual but lasting — we don't brighten temporarily, we even out texture.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear foundation and concealer during the treatment?
Yes — once you're home after the session. Right after a peel or LED, skin needs a few hours to rest (4–6 hours). For the following days, we recommend a lightweight mineral or SPF-based foundation at the consultation — we avoid comedogenic formulas throughout the programme. A two-step evening cleansing routine (oil + pH 4.5–5 cleansing gel) is a mandatory part of the home protocol.
I'm pregnant or breastfeeding — can I do this treatment?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications for most acid peels and Dermapen. The exception is gentle in-salon care (manual extraction, niacinamide mask) — but we start the 8-week programme after breastfeeding ends. Tell us about pregnancy or plans for it — we'll advise what can be safely done now.
I've been using retinol for a year — do I need to stop before the treatment?
We don't stop retinol entirely — but we adjust concentration and frequency to the programme phase. In the first 4 weeks (peel + LED), we pause it or switch to 0.05% retinaldehyde at a lower frequency. From week 5, 0.25% retinol returns as a maintenance element. We discuss details at the initial consultation. I'm worried the results will be too noticeable — that someone will notice I've had something done The acne treatment gives a calming, even-toned effect — not a face without a history, but a face in good condition. LED and salicylic peels don't change facial features or proportions. The gradual smoothing of scars and fading of PIH looks like a good skin patch, not a treatment. People around you usually say "you look great" — without pointing to what's changed.
Will acne come back after the programme ends?
Acne is a tendency we manage — not a disease we cure once and for all. The 8-week programme brings skin into remission and teaches it new habits (barrier, sebum and inflammation kept under control). The home protocol and maintenance sessions (once every 4–6 weeks) keep this state stable. Relapses are possible with major hormonal shifts (menopause, changing contraception) — in that case, we come back for a consultation and act early.
