Acne programme for men

Acne in men after age 25 — mechanics and solution

In men, acne can be more intense — higher androgen levels drive oil production, skin is thicker, and there's another factor: shaving, which mechanically spreads bacteria across the beard line. Hence frequent "chin and jawline acne." This is a typical acne treatment for men.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Active inflammatory acne — red papules and pustules we aim to calm first.
  • Comedonal acne — blackheads and whiteheads, "clogged" skin, rough texture.
  • Excess oil and enlarged pores — an oily T-zone, visible pores.
  • Post-acne hyperpigmentation (PIH) — brown and pink marks left after healed lesions.
  • Acne scars — atrophic (ice pick, boxcar, rolling) — we address these in the second phase of the programme.
  • Adult acne — lesions on the chin and jawline after age 25, often with a hormonal background.
  • Back and décolletage acne — a larger surface area, the same mechanism.
  • Skin that's "good one day, bad the next" — when home care stops being enough and a plan is needed.

The areas we work on

  1. chin, jawline and post-shaving acne — shaving technique is part of the protocol;
  2. back acne is common — a larger area, more sessions;
  3. thicker, oilier skin — more focused work on pores;
  4. goal: clear, matte skin without constant flare-ups.

Acne in men after age 25 — mechanics and solution

Adult acne (acne tarda) in men has three specific factors that women don't have: testosterone driving oil production far more intensely than oestrogen, thicker facial skin with larger sebaceous glands — and shaving. This last factor is underrated: a razor against skin with active lesions mechanically spreads P. acnes bacteria to neighbouring pores, triggering further inflammation. Men can shave daily and worsen the problem daily without realising the loop they're in.
The acne treatment at J'ADORE for men is a combined therapy: medical peels clearing active lesions, Nd:YAG laser or LED destroying bacteria directly in the sebaceous glands, Dermapen reducing scars — and correcting shaving technique as an integral part of the protocol. Programme of 6–8 sessions every 3–4 weeks.

Chin and jawline acne — why here specifically

The jawline, chin and neck are where adult men's acne concentrates most often. The reason is anatomical: skin in these areas is thicker, there are more sebaceous glands, and androgen hormones (testosterone and DHT) act more strongly there. On top of that, these are exactly the areas you shave daily — mechanically irritating skin with active inflammation.
Untreated lesions in these locations leave indented scars and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that's especially visible on the neck and chin, where skin is less elastic. The programme combines calming active lesions with parallel scar reduction — two goals pursued at once, without extending the therapy.

Shaving as part of the therapy, not an obstacle

We don't ask you to stop shaving. We ask you to change your tool and technique during the treatment — and we explain why that makes sense.
Electric shaving or a trimmer set to distance instead of a razor reduces skin micro-trauma and mechanical bacterial spread by over 60%. Alcohol- and menthol-free foam (which irritate active lesions), no alcohol-based aftershave, mattifying SPF50 after shaving instead of cologne — these are specific changes we tailor to your routine at the first session. You can keep some of them permanently after the treatment ends.

Parameters matched to male anatomy

Men's skin is on average 20–25% thicker than women's skin and produces 2 to 4 times more sebum. This means acid peels (salicylic, TCA) and Nd:YAG laser settings are calibrated to different baseline parameters — not the same as in women's therapy. Intensity, exposure time and acid concentration are calibrated to the anatomy and goal of the individual man, not to a population average. Dose and quantity of each product is a clinical decision, not a standard procedure.

Acne scars — Dermapen and laser

Indented scars (ice pick, boxcar) and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation on the chin and neck are long-term consequences of untreated or poorly treated acne. Dermapen with EstGen stimulates collagen remodelling mechanically — the needles trigger a controlled skin repair response without damaging the surface. Laser complements the therapy for hyperpigmentation and active bacteria. We reduce scars alongside treating active acne — we don't wait for "afterwards," because men's thicker skin responds to collagen stimulation faster than women's thinner skin.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to give up strength training during the treatment?
You don't give up training — but for 48 hours after a laser session or peel you avoid intense sweating (gym, sauna, hot shower). Sweat combined with micro-damaged post-treatment skin can worsen irritation and bacterial spread. After 2 days you return to your full training plan without restrictions. Between sessions, physical activity has no contraindications — just cleanse away sweat with a pH 4.5–5 cleansing gel right after training.
Can I go to work normally after the treatment?
Depending on the session: after LED and salicylic peel — yes, the same day. Redness fades after 2–4 hours. After an Nd:YAG laser session, skin may be slightly red and mildly swollen for 24–36 hours. Most men return to work the next day. If you have an important meeting or presentation — schedule your session for the end of the week.
Will anyone notice I'm having treatments?
The results of the acne treatment are gradual — calmed lesions, even skin tone, fading scars. People around you notice improved skin, not the specific treatment. Men typically hear "you look better" or "you look good" after a series — without further questions. The home protocol (cleansing gel, SPF cream) looks like ordinary skincare, not a procedure.
Can I combine the acne treatment with other treatments?
Yes — the acne treatment can be combined with treatments on other areas of the body (e.g. massage, back treatments) with no restrictions. On the face: scar treatments (Dermapen) are built into the programme from week 5. A brightening treatment for PIH can run in parallel once active inflammation has calmed. At the consultation, we plan an integrated sequence around your schedule.
How long will results last after the series ends?
Acne is a skin tendency we manage long-term. After a series of 6–8 sessions, skin enters remission — no active lesions or only minimal ones, scars smoothed. Maintenance sessions every 6–8 weeks and a home protocol (nightly retinol, daily SPF) keep this state stable for many months. With major changes in diet, stress or hormonal fluctuations — you come in earlier, and we respond quickly.
