Hyperhidrosis treatment for women

Sweating that plans your day for you

For many women, hyperhidrosis treatment means above all getting back freedom and confidence — the ability to wear light, silk or fitted clothes without worrying about stains, and calm in situations where thoughts of sweating used to dominate.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Wet patches on clothing — they appear regardless of temperature or stress, and antiperspirants (even strong pharmacy ones with aluminium chloride) have stopped being enough.
  • Sweaty hands — they make work, study, handling documents or shaking hands difficult.
  • Excessive foot sweating — discomfort, odour and slipping inside shoes.
  • Situational sweating — before a presentation, meeting, exam or important event.
  • Professional and social comfort — when sweating undermines confidence at work and in social contact.

The areas we work on

  1. Underarms — no more stains on blouses and dresses;
  2. Hands — peace of mind during meetings, greetings and events (weddings, photoshoots);
  3. Situational sweating — before an important speech or exam;
  4. Everyday comfort — without hiding your hands or avoiding contact.

Sweating that plans your day for you

There's a ritual you've probably stopped even noticing, because it's become part of daily life: before leaving the house, you check the mirror not just for your hair, but for whether anything shows. You put back the silk blouse, because every drop leaves a dark halo. You choose black and white, never powder pink or grey. In a restaurant, you sit so you don't have to raise your arms. You greet people with a nod instead of a hug, because your hand is damp. This isn't vanity — it's the logistics that excessive sweating imposes on a woman every day, regardless of season or temperature.
The main treatment description covers the mechanism, what the visit involves and safety — including the most common worry, that "sweat will move elsewhere" (short answer: no, the blockage is local and reversible, and whole-body thermoregulation stays intact). Here I want to talk about something else: what this treatment really changes in women's lives — in the wardrobe, in the calendar of events, in the body's hormonal rhythm, and in small decisions no one but you ever sees.

The wardrobe you get back

For many women, the biggest change after hyperhidrosis treatment isn't dry skin itself — it's getting back the clothes they'd avoided for years. Wet patches show up most clearly on the fabrics we love best: silk, satin, thin viscose, linen, delicate knitwear in light, powdery colours. The more beautiful the fabric, the more mercilessly it reveals moisture.
After treatment, a freedom returns that's hard to overstate:
There's also a quiet economics to it, rarely discussed: blouses that went straight to the wash — or the bin — after one wear, ruined by permanent staining and yellowing under the arms, now last for seasons. This isn't a cosmetic detail — it's a daily micro-decision and a real cost that used to drain your energy for years, and the treatment simply gives that back to you.
  • light and pastel colours — sky blue, beige, ecru, powder pink — without calculating what will show after an hour;
  • fitted cuts — dresses and blouses close to the body, without a "protective" jacket layered on just to cover the underarms;
  • delicate fabrics for summer, instead of thicker "safe" materials that mask the problem but only make it worse in the heat;
  • clothes without shields or sweat pads, which chafe and are noticeable under thin fabric.

Hormones, the cycle, and a body that responds in its own way

Women's sweating has a dimension the male perspective doesn't know: it's sensitive to hormones. Many patients notice that sweating increases at certain points in the cycle, before their period, and some women experience hot flushes and drenching sweats around menopause — often regardless of the surrounding temperature, appearing suddenly, including at night.
It's worth understanding the boundary: botulinum toxin treatment quietens local, excessive sweating in a specific area (usually the underarms) and works very well where the problem is localised and persistent. But if your sweating takes the form of generalised hot flushes linked to hormonal changes, tell your doctor at consultation — the treatment can significantly improve underarm comfort, but the underlying cause needs a different approach. For many women, the answer is a combination: quietening the most troublesome area with the treatment, and a separate conversation about hormonal factors where they dominate.

Weddings, photoshoots, evenings that finally belong to you

There are days in a woman's calendar where sweating can ruin something meant to be beautiful. A dress for your own or someone else's wedding — often silk, light, fitted. A photoshoot where the photographer asks you to raise your arm. A launch, a speech, an evening you've been preparing for for weeks. On top of that comes the vicious circle: you worry you'll sweat, so you get stressed, and stress fuels sweating.
Hyperhidrosis treatment breaks this cycle at the source. Once the glands in the treated area stop receiving the signal to "secrete", emotions stop translating into wet patches. Many patients plan the treatment in advance — with a specific event in mind, or simply ahead of spring and summer, to get through the warmest months with ease. Because the full result develops only around the second week, it's worth booking with enough lead time before an important date — that's the only planning left to do.

Closeness, gestures, everyday contact

A woman's daily life is full of touch you don't choose: a hug in greeting, taking someone's arm, holding a child, shaking hands at a meeting with other parents at school, dancing. Sweaty palms and damp underarms make you start subconsciously limiting these gestures — stepping back, shortening the hug, presenting a "cooler" version of yourself than you really are. It costs something, because physical closeness is part of how we build relationships.
Once the hands or underarms are quietened, these micro-adjustments disappear. You get back the freedom of not calculating whether to shake a hand or give a hug — you just do it. For some women, this matters more than a dry blouse: getting back a natural ease in contact they'd been avoiding "just in case".

Frequently asked questions

Can I have the treatment if I'm planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding are contraindications — we postpone the treatment during this time. If you're planning a pregnancy but aren't pregnant yet, you can have the treatment; discuss the details and timing with your doctor at consultation. Once you've finished breastfeeding, you can return to treatment as usual.
I have a wedding or a shoot coming up — when's the best time to book?
Ideally leave at least two weeks between the treatment and the event — by then the effect is fully developed, and any minor injection marks have long faded. The earlier you book, the more relaxed you'll be; don't leave the treatment for the last minute, a day or two before.
I mainly sweat before my period and when stressed — will the treatment cover that?
Yes, if the problem is in a specific area (e.g. underarms or hands) — because the treatment quietens sweating locally, regardless of whether the trigger is emotion or your cycle. The glands in the treated area simply stop responding. If, however, you experience generalised hot flushes (e.g. around menopause), tell your doctor — the plan will then be tailored more broadly.
Does my makeup and facial skincare routine stay the same?
When treating underarms, hands or feet, your skincare and makeup routine stays exactly the same — the face area isn't touched at all. If the forehead or hairline were ever treated, the doctor would give separate guidance for the first few hours.
Will I permanently lose the natural "glow" of my skin that I like?
No. We only quieten excess sweating in a chosen, small area, and only temporarily — the effect is reversible. Skin doesn't become "artificially dry", and after a few months sweating in that area gradually returns to its normal rhythm. You decide whether and when to repeat the treatment.
