Azelaic Peel (DermaQuest) for women

Your skin that flushes — and why azelaic acid is exactly what it needs

The most common reason women choose DermaQuest Azelaic Peel for women is rosacea and visible capillaries — redness, flushing, skin that reacts with heat to every emotion and change in temperature. The second is hyperpigmentation (post-inflammatory and hormonal) and uneven skin tone. Azelaic acid is ideal here, as it soothes and brightens at the same time, while also being well tolerated by sensitive skin.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Rosacea — persistent redness, a feeling of heat, "flushing" on the cheeks and nose.
  • Visible capillaries and fragile blood vessels — thread veins, skin that reddens in response to temperature, stress, spicy food or alcohol.
  • Reactive and sensitive skin — skin that can't tolerate strong acids but needs calming and evening out.
  • Hyperpigmentation — post-inflammatory (after breakouts), sun-induced, and uneven skin tone.
  • Acne and oily skin — antibacterial action and sebum regulation, fewer blackheads and breakouts.
  • Post-acne marks — flat post-acne hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.
  • Grey, fatigued skin — when the goal is refreshing skin tone without the risk of irritation.

The areas we work on

  1. redness, rosacea-prone skin, thread veins on the cheeks and around the nose;
  2. post-inflammatory and hormonal hyperpigmentation, uneven tone;
  3. reactive skin that doesn't tolerate stronger acids well;
  4. extra support for skin prone to breakouts before an important event.

Your skin that flushes — and why azelaic acid is exactly what it needs

If you feel your skin reacts to everything — wind, coffee, stress, a glass of wine, even a change in temperature — it's not your imagination. Rosacea-prone, vascular skin is simply more reactive. Azelaic acid in the DermaQuest peel targets exactly this reactivity: it calms inflammation, soothes redness and gradually strengthens the walls of small blood vessels. It doesn't "switch off" redness in one go — it steadily lowers the level of inflammation, so your skin reacts less dramatically to triggers with every week.
For female skin, it particularly matters that azelaic acid targets hormonal hyperpigmentation — the darker patches that appear or worsen with hormonal changes (contraception, pregnancy, cycle shifts). It evens out skin tone without aggressive exfoliation, which is key when skin is both rosacea-prone and pigmentation-prone.

What your skin gains — specifically

  • calmer, less reactive redness and reduced "flushing" after hot drinks, stress or alcohol;
  • less visible capillaries and thread veins around the nose and on the cheeks — thanks to strengthened vessel walls;
  • more even skin tone: fewer dark marks from breakouts and less hormonal hyperpigmentation;
  • sebum regulation in the T-zone for combination skin — fewer blackheads, smaller pores;
  • better makeup readiness: foundation sits more evenly when skin is less red.

What it's like for sensitive skin — honestly

The most common worry women have before an azelaic peel is: "will my skin cope with this?" DermaQuest Azelaic Peel is a superficial peel — there's no dramatic peeling or multi-day "red period". Exfoliation is gentle, often almost invisible. Redness right after the treatment usually settles within a few hours to a day. Your cosmetologist adjusts strength and exposure time to how your skin reacts — the first session is always more cautious, to assess tolerance.
If you're worried you'll need to stay home after the treatment — with azelaic acid, that's usually not necessary. Time off work is rare.

Peel, makeup and your daily routine

Many women ask whether they need to give up makeup, retinol and their favourite acid creams during a series of peels. The answer: you don't give anything up, you just manage the order. On treatment day, your skin rests without makeup. From the next day — you can usually return to powder and foundation. Retinol and strong AHA/BHA acids are paused for the duration of the series, or until your cosmetologist clears you to resume. In exchange: gentle, fragrance-free cleansing, proper hydration (ceramides, panthenol) and — most importantly — SPF 50+ every day, without exception. Sun protection isn't optional: without it, the results of the peel can reverse into post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Frequently asked questions

Will an azelaic peel help with redness I've had for years, which gets worse after wine or coffee?
This is the classic picture of rosacea — and azelaic acid is one of the first choices for it. It won't disappear after one session, but a series of 4–6 peels, backed by home care, steadily lowers reactivity. Skin reacts less intensely to thermal and emotional triggers.
I have post-acne hyperpigmentation as well as visible capillaries — will one peel address both?
Azelaic acid targets both problems at once: it inhibits melanogenesis (pigment production) and calms inflammation (vessels, redness). That's rare in cosmetology — one ingredient, two mechanisms. That's why, with this combination of concerns, azelaic acid is often the first choice before separate depigmentation and vascular treatments.
Can I still use an azelaic acid cream at home during the series?
Usually yes — but the specific formula and concentration is decided by your cosmetologist. Azelaic acid in home care supports the results of the in-salon series. Your cosmetologist can recommend a suitable product to use between visits.
Can I start a series in summer if I'm planning a seaside holiday?
It's safest to plan the series so intense sun exposure doesn't fall during the sessions. If you can't wait, though — mention your holiday during the consultation. Your cosmetologist will arrange the schedule with a suitable gap before you leave. Strict SPF 50+ is a requirement throughout the series.
I've seen reviews saying skin "looks worse" for the first few days after a peel — is that normal?
Temporary flare-ups (more redness, mild dryness) are possible, especially after the first sessions, while skin adapts. It's not a sign something went wrong — just skin reacting. Your cosmetologist will tell you what to expect and adjust the next session based on how your skin responded.
