Pyruvic — pyruvic acid for women

When acne leaves a story behind

The most common reason women choose a pyruvic peel for women is acne that leaves marks — active breakouts alongside post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and small scars that persist for months. Another is enlarged pores and “shiny” skin. For mature skin, it is the wish to combine cleansing with improved skin quality and firmness. A pyruvic peel is ideal here because it works on acne while also stimulating the skin to regenerate.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Acne vulgaris — comedonal acne (clogged pores, “blackheads”) and mild to moderate papulopustular acne; it unclogs pores and limits new breakouts.
  • Acne scars — especially shallow, “soft” scars and uneven texture; pyruvic acid improves their appearance through biostimulation (deep “pitted” scars require fractional mesotherapy or laser treatment).
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) — dark marks left after blemishes have healed.
  • Oily and seborrhoeic skin — excessive shine, a “shiny” T-zone and a tendency towards comedones.
  • Enlarged pores — especially on the nose, forehead and chin; after completing the series, skin looks smoother and more mattified.
  • Uneven skin tone and “grey”, tired-looking skin — when you want brighter, fresher skin and improved skin quality.
  • Acne and marks on the back, décolletage and neck — zones that are difficult to care for at home.
  • Mature skin with acne and loss of firmness — when the combination of “cleansing + biostimulation” in one treatment is valuable.

The areas we work on

  1. active acne, blackheads and a “shiny” T-zone;
  2. post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and uneven, “tired-looking” skin tone;
  3. shallow acne scars and uneven skin texture;
  4. enlarged pores, as well as improved skin quality and firmness for mature skin.

When acne leaves a story behind

The worst part of acne-prone skin is not the blemish itself — it passes. It is what remains: flat, dark marks (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), small scars and a constantly shiny T-zone. These can persist for months after the skin has settled. This is where a pyruvic peel does something most acids cannot do at the same time — it works on active acne and its marks within the same series.
Pyruvic acid works in two ways: on one hand, it disinfects, unclogs pores and regulates sebum, limiting new breakouts. On the other, it stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen. This gradually improves the appearance of shallow scars, evens out texture and makes the skin denser. The effect on PIH comes from combining epidermal exfoliation with consistent SPF use after the treatment.

What you can achieve

For mature skin, where acne is combined with the first signs of lost firmness, pyruvic acid is one of the few peels that both clarifies (seborrhoea, pores) and regenerates (collagen) — without the need for two separate treatments.
  • Fewer active blemishes and comedones — through unclogging pores and an antibacterial effect
  • Brighter, more even skin tone — dark post-acne marks fade over the series
  • Smoother texture — shallow scars and unevenness are smoothed through collagen biostimulation
  • Less shiny, mattified skin — sebum is regulated at the level of the sebaceous glands
  • A better base for make-up — make-up applies more evenly when pores are smaller and skin tone is even

Skin after shaving and a sensitive barrier

If you have shaved your face or use more abrasive cleansing tools (manual peels, brushes), tell us during consultation. With a freshly exfoliated or irritated skin barrier, the cosmetologist may adjust the strength and exposure time. Skin around the chin and jawline — a typical hormonal acne zone — can be more reactive than the forehead and nose.

Hyperpigmentation and skin phototype — why SPF is not optional

For skin prone to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, as most acne-prone skin is, a peel without strict sun protection may have the opposite effect. Instead of brightening marks, it may fix or deepen them. This is particularly relevant for darker skin phototypes (IV-V), where the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is higher. The cosmetologist assesses your skin phototype before the treatment. They may suggest the cooler season for the series or combining it with a brightening acid, such as tranexamic acid, for a safer result.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be able to apply make-up after the peel and go to work?
On the day of the treatment, your skin needs to rest. Make-up is usually possible the next day, provided your skin is not peeling intensely. If peeling is more pronounced, your cosmetologist may advise a short break. Important: do not pull off peeling flakes under foundation — this will worsen texture and prolong recovery.
I have hormonal acne — it returns with every cycle. Does a pyruvic peel make sense at all?
Yes, but in this case a series is more important than a single treatment. Pyruvic acid regulates sebum and clears pores on an ongoing basis. Between cycles, it helps keep your skin in better condition. With hormonal acne, the cosmetologist often combines the peel with a niacinamide serum and a home-care plan — so the results are not undone by the next phase of your cycle.
Will a pyruvic peel improve scars — flat, dark marks — or only indented ones?
Mainly the flat ones: post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark marks after healed breakouts) and small, soft scars respond noticeably to a series of pyruvic peels — they fade and become smoother. Deep, indented scars (acne pits) require fractional mesotherapy or laser treatment — a peel alone will not level them, but it may improve the overall texture around them.
Do I need to stop using at-home acids (AHA, retinol) before and after the treatment?
Yes — before the treatment, the cosmetologist will determine when to take a break, usually for a few days. After the treatment, retinol and strong AHA/BHA acids should only be reintroduced with your cosmetologist’s approval, usually after a week. Using them immediately after a peel places excessive strain on the skin barrier. It may cause irritation or hyperpigmentation — the opposite of the intended result.
I am having a pyruvic peel for acne on my back — what does the treatment and aftercare involve?
The treatment on the back is similar to the one for the face. However, you may need someone to help with home care, such as applying SPF to your back before sun exposure. Peeling on the back can be more pronounced because the skin is thicker — this is normal. Series for the back are usually slightly longer than those for the face.
