Ear piercing for women — precision that lasts

A woman's ear carries a distinctive layer of meaning — jewellery is often the first thing noticed before anything else. That's why how and where you pierce your ears matters for years to come. At J'adore Instytut we pierce with a medical needle, using implant-grade titanium, marking the point with precision — because uneven earrings can be more irritating than the procedure itself.
Women usually come to us for one of three reasons: after years of dealing with a shopping-centre gun (and the healing problems it caused), wanting a first cartilage piercing — helix, daith or tragus — or bringing a daughter to find a safe place for her first piercing. Every one of these situations gets the same answer from us: a sterile needle, titanium, and time to heal calmly.

Anatomy of a woman's ear — why location matters

Women's earlobes are usually thinner and more sensitive to pressure than men's — this matters when choosing the size of starter jewellery. An earring that's too heavy or too large can stretch a fresh channel within the first few weeks. Monika chooses starter jewellery based on the thickness and shape of your lobe, not a "standard" size.
The cartilage in a woman's ear — helix, daith, tragus, rook — is more delicate than a man's and responds better to a needle than a gun, which can cause micro-tears in cartilage tissue. This is exactly why we never use a gun at any location at J'adore.
  • Lobe: 6–8 weeks to heal, the most comfortable to wear, our first recommendation for a debut piercing
  • Helix: 6–12 months to heal, requires sleeping on the right side and avoiding over-ear headphones
  • Daith, tragus, rook: require precision — the anatomy of your ear determines whether the placement is possible and how it will look

The most common concern: keloids and scarring

This is the first question many clients ask — especially those who have seen or experienced problems after a gun piercing. A tendency to form keloids is individual, not gender-specific, but women more often raise this concern directly. A medical needle minimises tissue trauma and reduces the risk of scarring compared with a gun. If you have an identified tendency to keloids, Monika carries out an individual consultation before the procedure — we don't dismiss the idea of a piercing without talking it through first.

Piercing, pregnancy, breastfeeding and hormonal changes

Piercing healing is a biological process — it depends on immunity, hormones and hydration. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, your body prioritises other processes, and skin wound healing can slow down. We recommend planning a piercing outside this period. If you already have a fresh piercing and become pregnant, get in touch with us for guidance on safe aftercare.
Hormonal fluctuations (menopause, hormonal contraception) don't rule out the procedure, but they can affect healing speed — worth factoring in when planning.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear makeup and use hairspray with a fresh piercing?
Face makeup — yes, no restrictions. The issue is hairspray, mousse and other styling products: particles can settle on a fresh piercing and irritate the channel. In the first few weeks, apply hair products before uncovering your ear — you can shield the piercing with your hand or a piece of foil.
Can I use retinoids and AHA/BHA acids on the skin around a fresh piercing?
Retinoids and exfoliating acids applied directly around a piercing can disrupt healing — skin that's regenerating is sensitive to strong active ingredients. Avoid the area around the earring during your facial care routine. The rest of your skin can be treated as usual.
How do I sleep with a fresh helix or daith without damaging the piercing?
This is one of the real challenges of cartilage piercings. We recommend a travel pillow with a hole for the ear — you rest your ear in the gap, your head lies comfortably, and there's no pressure on the piercing. Alternatively, sleep on the opposite side for the first few months. Monika discusses this individually for every cartilage piercing.
Is the daith-and-migraine effect a proven method?
Daith (the inner cartilage of the ear) has gained popularity as a potential aid for migraines — some people report symptom relief. There's no randomised clinical evidence for this. We carry out daith piercings as an aesthetic choice, and treat any possible migraine effect as a bonus, not a promise. Either way — daith looks striking.
Can I combine an ear piercing with a skincare treatment on the same day?
Facial treatments — peels, mesotherapy, microdermabrasion — can be combined with a piercing, as long as they don't involve the ear area. It's best to book the piercing as the first treatment of the day, so that skincare products don't come into contact with the fresh piercing site.
