A woman's ear carries a unique layer of meaning — jewellery is often the first sign of style before you even look at the rest. That is why how and where you pierce your ears matters for years to come. At J'adore Instytut, we pierce with a medical needle, using implant-grade titanium, with precise point marking — because asymmetrical earrings can be more irritating than the treatment itself.
Women most often come for one of three reasons: years after having it done with a gun in a shopping centre (and experiencing healing problems), wanting their first cartilage piercing — helix, daith, or tragus — or with a daughter for whom they are looking for a safe place. All these situations have the same answer from us: a sterile needle, titanium, and a calm approach.

Anatomy of the female ear — why location matters

Female earlobes are usually thinner and more sensitive to pressure than men's — this is important when choosing the size of the initial jewellery. An ornament that is too heavy or too large can elongate a fresh channel in the first few weeks. Monika selects the initial jewellery based on the thickness and shape of the lobe, not according to a "standard" size.
The cartilage of a female ear — helix, daith, tragus, rook — is more delicate than a man's and reacts better to a needle than to a gun, which can cause micro-cracks in the tissue when used on cartilage. This is why at J'adore we do not use a gun for any location.
  • Lobe: healing 6–8 weeks, greatest comfort, first recommendation for a debut.
  • Helix: healing 6–12 months, requires sleeping on the correct ear and avoiding over-ear headphones.
  • Daith, tragus, rook: require precision — ear anatomy determines the possibility and aesthetics of the placement.

The most common concern: keloids and scarring

This is the first question many clients ask — especially those who have seen or had problems after a gun piercing. The tendency for keloids is individual, not gender-based, but women report this concern more often. A medical needle minimises tissue trauma and reduces the risk of a keloid compared to a gun. If you have a known tendency for keloids, Monika will conduct an individual consultation before the treatment — we do not give up on your piercing dream without a conversation.

Piercing and pregnancy, breastfeeding, and hormonal changes

Piercing healing is a biological process — it depends on immunity, hormones, and hydration. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the body prioritises other processes, and skin wound healing may be slowed down. We recommend planning your piercing outside of this period. If you already have a fresh piercing and become pregnant — consult us on how to maintain safe care.
Hormonal fluctuations (menopause, hormonal contraception) do not disqualify you from the treatment, but they may affect the healing rate — it is worth considering this when planning.

Frequently asked questions

Can I wear make-up and use hairspray with a fresh piercing?
Make-up on the face — yes, without restrictions. The problem arises with hair spray, mousse, and lacquer: particles of the product can settle on a fresh piercing and irritate the channel. In the first few weeks, apply hair products before exposing your ear — you can cover the piercing with your hand or a piece of foil.
Can I use retinoids and AHA/BHA acids on the skin around a fresh piercing?
Retinoids and exfoliating acids applied directly to the piercing area can disrupt healing — skin is sensitive to strong active substances during regeneration. Avoid the earring area during your facial care routine. For the rest of your skin — continue your care as usual.
How to sleep with a fresh helix or daith without damaging the piercing?
This is one of the real difficulties with cartilage piercings. We recommend a travel pillow with a hole for the ear — you place your ear in the hole, your head rests comfortably, and the piercing is not under pressure. Alternatively, sleep on the opposite ear for the first few months. Monika discusses this individually for every cartilage piercing.
Is the daith effect on migraines a confirmed method?
The daith (inner ear cartilage) has gained popularity as a potential aid for migraines — some people report symptom relief. There are no randomised clinical trials for this. We perform daith as an aesthetic piercing, and we treat any potential migraine effect as a bonus, not a promise. Regardless of this — the daith looks exceptional.
Can I combine ear piercing with a skincare treatment on the same day?
Facial treatments — peels, mesotherapy, microdermabrasion — can be combined with a piercing if they do not involve the ear zone. It is worth scheduling the piercing as the first treatment of the day so that facial care does not cause products to come into contact with the fresh piercing area.
