Lip contouring for men

Why would a man get his lips "done"

Lip augmentation for men is much less common and, by nature, very subtle. It's almost never about augmentation, but about correcting proportions, symmetry and hydration — the result should be entirely undetectable as a "treatment". We work especially conservatively to preserve the natural, masculine character of the lips.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Narrow, "disappearing" lips — lacking definition, "vanishing" when you smile.
  • A blurred or uneven contour and a faded Cupid's bow.
  • Asymmetry between the upper and lower lip, or between the two sides.
  • Age-related volume loss — "flattening" of the lips, fine vertical lines around the vermilion.
  • Drooping corners of the mouth — giving an impression of tiredness or "sadness".
  • Dry, chapped lips — when hydration and improved vermilion quality are the main priority.
  • Wanting a subtle enhancement of shape without a major change in volume.

The areas we work on

  1. evening out an uneven or asymmetrical lip;
  2. gently filling a minor loss of volume;
  3. improving the quality of dry, chapped lips;
  4. zero "fullness" — the goal is naturalness, not a change in size.

Why would a man get his lips "done"

This question comes up most often — and it's a fair one. In the men's side of our practice, lip contouring is a niche, not a standard, and it's almost never about what the word "augmentation" suggests. Men usually come in with a specific, practical reason: one lip is noticeably thinner than the other, the lips are pulled to one side, the contour is blurred, or the vermilion is constantly dry and cracked — which, on a man's face, reads as "neglect", not "lack of volume".
So the goal is different from that of women. We rarely design fullness here — more often we correct proportions, even out symmetry and improve tissue quality. For many men, one sentence matters most: the result should be that people see someone rested and well-groomed, without being able to say what's changed.
What matters: the scope is your decision. For some men it's a barely noticeable correction of tiredness plus hydration; for others — a more visible, deliberate rejuvenation of the lower face, when the lips have lost contour with age and pulled the whole lower region down with them. We don't assume that a man automatically "wants as little as possible". We assume he wants exactly as much as he decides together with the doctor — and not a bit more by accident.

Male lips follow different anatomy

This isn't a cosmetic detail — it's a real technical difference. The male lip is usually wider horizontally, has a less defined, "flatter" Cupid's bow, and naturally a more even ratio of upper to lower lip than in women. The skin around the mouth is thicker, more richly vascularised, and often covered with facial hair, which changes both how the treatment feels and how the tissue responds.
Strongly emphasising the Cupid's bow, or clearly lifting the centre of the upper lip — movements that read as beauty on a woman's face — look immediately out of place on a man's face. That's why a good plan for a man focuses on supporting contour and volume horizontally, while keeping a simpler, "masculine" line. This is a different logic for distributing product, tailored individually to your face — not the same technique "just less". If you hear that "it's done the same way for men, just more discreetly" — that's an oversimplification. It's done differently.

Facial hair, shaving and vermilion care

The male-specific aspect also involves everyday habits around the mouth. If you wear facial hair right along the lip line, or shave with a blade, you need to be careful in the first days after the treatment: fresh injection marks are micro-wounds, and shaving over them risks irritation and infection. In the first few days, it's better to avoid the immediate area around the lips when shaving, and postpone precise trimming of facial hair near the lip by a day or two. A trimmer kept a little further from the lip line is safer than a blade right against it.
Chapped vermilion itself is a common, underrated issue for men — encouraged by wind, cold, outdoor sport, smoking and rarely using balm. Hyaluronic acid hydrates the lips "from within", but it's worth supporting this from outside too: an SPF balm as a daily habit genuinely improves lip quality and prolongs the result. For many men, this is actually the first skincare step they ever adopt — and it sometimes makes a bigger difference than the treatment itself.

Training, the gym and a man's lifestyle

Men ask this question directly more often, so no need to soften it: intense exercise should be put on hold for the first few days. Sharply increased circulation and blood pressure during hard training worsen swelling and encourage bruising, and the lip area is exceptionally well vascularised. This doesn't mean "no training for a week" — it's about easing off heavy sets, saunas after training, and hot, long baths for a few days. Walking or light activity is fine.
A separate, important point: supplements and performance boosters. High-dose omega-3, popular among people who train, certain "pre-workouts", and painkillers taken "to warm up" can thin the blood and noticeably increase the risk of bruising. Mention them to the doctor at consultation — not because they rule out the treatment, but because they allow the timing and preparation to be planned so the result isn't "decorated" with a week of bruising. The same goes for alcohol — it dilates blood vessels and worsens swelling, so it's best to skip it on the day of the treatment and the day after.

Lips as part of a man's facial plan

For men, lips are rarely a goal in themselves. More often they're one element of a broader plan to harmonise the lower face: a more defined jawline, chin correction, improved profile. In this context, a well-judged, discreet lip correction completes the whole — the lips don't "stand out" as the only altered feature, but fit into a more cohesive, more defined lower face.
Sometimes the lips turn out to be the last, least obvious piece of the puzzle: a man comes in asking for a "stronger jaw", and it turns out that a faded upper lip contour is what's making the lower face look tired. What's done, and in what order, is decided by the doctor at consultation, looking at overall proportions — not everything happens in a single visit, and the sequence can matter more than the choice of treatment itself.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be able to shave normally after the treatment?
Not on the same day, around the mouth. Fresh injection points are micro-wounds — shaving with a blade right over them risks irritation and infection. For the first few days, avoid the immediate lip area, and postpone precise trimming of facial hair near the mouth by a day or two. You can shave the rest of your face normally; a trimmer is safer than a blade right along the lip line.
Will facial hair hide the result or get in the way of the treatment?
It doesn't interfere with the treatment itself — the doctor works on the vermilion, not on hair-covered skin. Facial hair around the mouth doesn't "hide" the result, because contouring affects the lip itself. If you wear a full moustache covering the upper lip, it's worth mentioning at consultation how your lips look "in action" — that way we plan a result visible in your real, everyday look, not just up close.
I take supplements and pre-workouts — does that matter?
Yes, and it's worth mentioning directly. High doses of omega-3, some pre-workouts and painkillers can thin the blood and increase bruising. They don't rule out the treatment, but they let the doctor plan the timing and preparation so the result doesn't end up hidden under bruising. We'll go through everything you take at consultation.
I want to work on my jawline and chin — do lips get done at the same time?
Sometimes, yes — lips are often part of a broader lower-face plan (jaw, chin, profile), but not necessarily all in one visit. The order and spacing are set by the doctor, based on overall proportions. Sometimes a discreet lip correction is the final element that "ties together" the effect of a well-defined lower face — and only delivers its full impact combined with the rest.
I want full discretion — can it really be done so nobody notices?
Yes, and it's a common, entirely normal goal for men — mention it directly at consultation, because it genuinely shapes the plan. With a male-focused approach, we work on symmetry, contour and hydration, using exactly as much product as needed while keeping a simpler, masculine lip line. A "done" look comes from excess product and a female-style distribution on a male face — not from the method itself.
