You want density, not just length — tapes work brilliantly for thickening hair that's fine or thinning towards the ends.

Women and tapes — different reasons, the same result

There's no single reason why clients choose tapes. Some want dramatic length before a wedding or a trip. Others want thickening only: their hair is long, but loses density and weight halfway down. Others still are after a colour contrast without dyeing, weaving in darker or lighter strands. Tape works equally well in all these situations — because the result comes from precise placement of the strands, not a single fixed template.

Freedom of styling matters too: a ponytail, a bun, a braid, a high knot. With good placement, the bonds stay invisible even in updos — this takes a well-thought-out application plan, and often blending two or three shades of strands so they disappear into your own hair.

Women's hair anatomy and tape

Women's hair tends to be longer and carries more chemical history than men's — lightening, perms, toners, repeated colouring. The more history a strand has, the more important it is to assess its condition before application. Your stylist checks:

The number of strands and their placement is decided on this basis — not in advance, but only after your stylist has felt your hair.

elasticity — whether the hair withstands tension without breaking,
porosity — too high, and the hair absorbs everything, including oils that weaken the tape,
density at the root — how many hairs per square centimetre, to place the strands safely.

Tapes, ponytails and updos

This is the most common scenario: you want a fuller ponytail, and the bonds need to stay invisible. This is possible when the strands sit low enough (not right at the crown) and deep enough beneath your own hair. Your stylist plans the bond placement with your favourite way of wearing your hair in mind — it's worth mentioning this at your consultation.

Aftercare and a woman's daily routine

Women typically have a richer care routine than men — masks, oils, intensive conditioners, serums. With tapes, the rule is simple: whatever your hair loves on the lengths must never reach the root. Argan oil, protein masks, intensive conditioners — all these products work beautifully from mid-length down. Tape adhesive tolerates moisture, but oil weakens it — hence this one firm boundary.

Frequently asked questions

Do tapes work on very fine, delicate hair?

It depends on density at the root, not the thickness of a single hair. Fine but dense hair usually holds tapes well; hair that's both sparse and fine can be more challenging, as the bonds may show. Your stylist assesses this by touch at your consultation and will tell you plainly whether to proceed, or whether it's better to strengthen your hair first.

Can I wear tapes if I wear contact lenses or have a sensitive scalp?

Contact lenses have no bearing on the application — tapes attach to hair, not skin. A sensitive scalp, however, is worth mentioning to your stylist: with irritation or active flare-ups, it's better to wait until the skin settles before adding bonds at the root.

Can I wear tapes during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Tapes are a hairdressing and styling service, with no substances penetrating the skin and no heat involved. There are no medical contraindications from the method itself, but hair changes density and texture during pregnancy — it's worth waiting for a consultation to assess whether it's the right time for application.

I have a lot of grey hair — is colour matching harder?

Grey hair reflects light differently from pigmented hair — sometimes making it harder to match. Your stylist blends shades of strands to blend as closely as possible with your natural colour, but it's worth coming to your consultation with clean, dry, product-free hair, so the assessment is as accurate as possible.

How do tapes look on very thick, dense hair?

Good — but they require more strands and a well-thought-out layout, so the bonds stay stable and hidden under your hair. Dense hair hides the bonds better, but also puts more pressure on them. Your stylist determines the optimal number of strands and their placement at your consultation.
