  • Acne scars — atrophic depressions of the ice-pick, boxcar and rolling type. This is one of the strongest indications for fractional microneedling RF.

Male skin — different starting conditions, different parameters

Male skin is around 20–25% thicker than female skin, with a higher baseline collagen density — meaning it loses firmness more slowly and later, but acne scars often run deeper. Thicker tissue responds more strongly to the thermal stimulus of radiofrequency, so parameters are set differently than for women: higher energy levels, deeper needle work where the scar structure allows it. The goal isn't a smoothed-over, "done" look — it's better skin: denser, more even, without the marks you've carried since your teenage years.

The most common reasons men choose fractional microneedling RF

Everyday life after the treatment — for men

Shaving: skip it for the first 24–48 hours — the skin has been pierced and is sensitive. Gym and intense exercise: pause for a day or two. Sauna: a few days off. Chlorinated pool: a few days, to let the micro-channels from the needles close. Sun: SPF 50+ for two weeks — this isn't optional, it's protection against pigmentation on freshly rebuilding skin.

Frequently asked questions

How many sessions do I really need for acne scars?
It depends on the depth and type of scar — atrophic depressions typically need a series of 3–5 sessions every 4–6 weeks, and deeper ice-pick scars sometimes need more. The cosmetologist assesses this at consultation, after examining your skin. Expect real change after the full series and several months, not after the first session.
Will it be obvious I've had something done? How long does the redness last?
The first day brings redness similar to a sunburn — it looks like the day after the beach. It usually fades within 2–3 days. If you work outdoors or have meetings planned, schedule the treatment for the end of the week. After a few days, your skin looks completely normal.
I have a beard and moustache — is fractional microneedling RF safe on these areas?
The applicator works on facial skin — areas with hair (beard, moustache) need to be assessed at consultation, because needle depth and parameters differ from hairless skin. This isn't an automatic "yes" or "no" — the cosmetologist decides after seeing your beard line and understanding your goal.
Can fractional microneedling RF make existing scars worse or leave new ones?
With correctly set parameters and single-use, sterile cartridges, the risk is minimal. A tendency to develop keloid scars is an absolute contraindication. If you have this history, tell us at consultation.
Can I have the treatment if I have active breakouts (adult acne)?
Active inflamed acne in the treatment area is a contraindication — needling active inflammatory lesions risks spreading them. For adult acne, the treatment plan is set by the cosmetologist after assessing what phase your skin is in. A fractional microneedling RF series often fits best once the acne has settled — that's when it can work on the marks left behind.
