Wax hair removal (Lycon) for women

Women's skin — why the bikini area, underarms and face need a different approach

For women, the most common areas are legs, bikini, underarms and face (upper lip). This is classic wax hair removal for women — for larger areas (legs, arms) we use warm strip wax, and for sensitive areas (bikini, underarms, upper lip) hot strip-free wax, which is gentler on the skin.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Unwanted hair on practically any part of the body — from the upper lip to full legs.
  • Anyone tired of shaving — looking for results that last weeks, not days.
  • Skin prone to ingrown hairs after shaving — wax combined with good home care reduces this issue.
  • Preparing for a holiday, an event or a photoshoot — smooth skin straight away.
  • Regular maintenance — with consistent visits, hair grows back increasingly sparser and finer.
  • Men — back, chest, neck, arms, underarms; an increasingly common choice among active clients.

The areas we work on

  1. legs (calves or full) and arms — warm, strip wax;
  2. bikini classic, Brazilian or Hollywood — hot wax;
  3. underarms — hot wax, precise even with changing hair growth direction;
  4. face — upper lip, chin, cheeks — hot wax, in small sections;
  5. rhythm: legs every 3–5 weeks, bikini and underarms every 3–4 weeks, upper lip every 2–4 weeks.

Women's skin — why the bikini area, underarms and face need a different approach

Women's skin in intimate areas is anatomically thinner and richer in pain receptors than skin on the thighs or calves. That's why wax hair removal on the bikini area and underarms isn't the same treatment as leg hair removal — technique, wax selection and the specialist's experience matter a great deal here. At J'adore Instytut, sensitive areas are treated exclusively with hot wax or sugar wax, removed without a strip and with precision tailored to your body shape. The result? Less discomfort, a cleaner line, fewer irritations.
Hormonal fluctuations add another factor. Skin's pain sensitivity changes across the menstrual cycle — a few days before your period, skin tends to be more reactive. The best time for the treatment is mid-cycle or a week after your period. If you're unsure, tell your specialist — she'll choose the right timing or method.

Face: upper lip, chin, cheeks — precision without damage

Facial wax hair removal is one of those areas where absolute precision matters. Facial skin is thin, prone to irritation and — in the case of excess peach fuzz or visible hair along the jawline — responds particularly well to professional treatment. Hot wax removes even short, fine hairs without stretching the skin.
Important rule: if your facial skincare routine includes retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene) or active acid peels, let your specialist know. The skin's outer layer is thinner in that case, and the risk of irritation is higher — we'll carry out a reactivity test or advise pausing acids for 5–7 days before the treatment.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding — what to know

Wax hair removal during pregnancy is possible and often chosen as a safe alternative to chemical hair-removal creams. However, pregnant skin can be more sensitive and reactive due to rising oestrogen levels — pigmentation is often stronger, and redness may last longer than usual.
The abdomen area is excluded from wax hair removal during pregnancy. Bikini, legs and underarms can be treated, with the method adjusted to sensitivity. Sugar wax is the first choice for J'adore specialists during this time. Breastfeeding is not a contraindication — wax doesn't enter the bloodstream.

Skin and active skincare — retinol, acids, exfoliation

If your evening routine is built around retinol, AHA or BHA, wax hair removal needs a bit of planning. These ingredients speed up cell turnover and thin the skin's outer layer — skin is then more prone to irritation when the wax is pulled off. The safety rule at J'adore: wait at least 5–7 days after last using retinol or a strong acid before your treatment. If you use pharmacy-grade or dermatological skincare, let us know. We'll adjust the method or suggest sugar wax as a gentler alternative.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have hair removal if I'm wearing makeup on my face?
On the day of your facial treatment, come without foundation or powder in the area to be treated. Eye and lip makeup is fine. Skin should be clean and dry — no creams, lotions or serums.
I'm pregnant — can I have my bikini area waxed?
Yes, bikini and underarms can be treated during pregnancy. Let us know about your pregnancy when booking — we'll choose the method (usually sugar wax), work pace and a gentle aftercare product. The abdomen area is excluded from the treatment.
I use retinol — when can I come in?
Wait 5–7 days after last using retinol or a strong exfoliating acid. With niacinamide or mild toners, there are no restrictions. If you're unsure about a specific product, message us before your visit and we'll advise.
Does wax hair removal make hair grow back thicker?
No — this is a myth that comes from confusing wax hair removal with shaving. Shaving cuts hair right at the skin's surface, creating a blunt tip that feels prickly and looks thicker. Wax pulls hair out from the root — regrowth is finer, softer and less noticeable than before the series of treatments.
Can I combine wax hair removal with facial treatments (such as mesotherapy or laser)?
Facial wax hair removal and laser or needle treatments in the same area should be spaced apart — a minimum of 2 weeks in either direction. Leg or body hair removal doesn't conflict with facial treatments. For a combined visit, tell reception what you're planning, and we'll arrange the order safely.
