Trichology consultation + trichoscopy for men

Men and hair loss — why time matters

In men, the androgenetic pattern is most common — receding temples and thinning at the crown, usually with a preserved band of hair at the occiput. The key sign visible on camera is miniaturisation: hair in affected zones becomes progressively finer and shorter before it disappears. This is why trichology consultation for men is most valuable early on — when the follicle is still active.

When it's worth it — indications

  • You notice increased hair loss — more hair on your brush, in the drain or on your pillow than usual.
  • You can see thinning — a wider parting, visible scalp, less volume or a receding hairline.
  • You have seborrhoea or dandruff — an oily, itchy scalp or flaking that returns despite using shampoos.
  • After childbirth, dieting, illness or stress — sudden, diffuse hair loss several weeks after the event.
  • You want to start hair treatment — and need to know where to begin, rather than buying products blindly.
  • You are already doing something for your hair — but you cannot see results and do not know whether it is the right approach.
  • As prevention — there have been hair concerns in your family and you want to spot changes early.

The areas we work on

  1. receding temples and thinning at the crown — a typical male pattern;
  2. hair miniaturisation visible in trichoscopy before a “bare” area appears;
  3. an early start = a genuinely better prognosis for treatment;
  4. a clear decision: what can be supported with treatments and what requires medical consultation.

Men and hair loss — why time matters

In men, the androgenetic pattern is most common: receding temples, thinning at the crown and miniaturisation. Hair in affected zones becomes progressively finer and shorter before it disappears. A trichoscopy camera shows this process earlier than you will notice it in the mirror. This is why trichology consultation for men is most valuable at an early stage — when the follicle is still active and can be supported.
Not every case of hair loss in men is AGA, however. It may be telogen shedding after severe stress, deficiencies, scalp inflammation or a combination of several factors. Without trichoscopy and a medical history, it is only guesswork — and may mean months of action that does not match your cause.

Genetics are not a verdict — but they require a strategy

The most common concern men bring to consultation is: “if it is genetic, nothing can be done anyway”. Genetics determine susceptibility — whether and to what extent follicles respond to DHT. However, the pace and extent of miniaturisation can genuinely be slowed. The earlier the plan is established, the more you can retain. Consultation determines the stage — and clearly explains what remains realistic and where treatment can no longer reverse changes.
Sometimes the answer is straightforward: if follicles in a given zone have long been inactive, the trichologist will explain this clearly and indicate other options — for example, medical consultation regarding pharmacological treatment or information about micropigmentation.

Before your visit — a few practical points

Come with clean hair — without heavy styling, waxes or pastes that cover the scalp. If you use any pharmacological treatment (such as minoxidil or finasteride), mention it during the consultation. It is important information. Chronic conditions, regular medication, diet history or severe stress are also part of the medical history. Each of these details may be diagnostically relevant.

Frequently asked questions

My temples have been receding for a year — is it already too late to do anything?
Usually not. The camera will show whether follicles in the receding area are active, miniaturising or already inactive. Based on this, the trichologist will explain what is realistic. One year is usually an early or moderate stage — precisely when action makes most sense.
I have been using minoxidil for three months without results — what is wrong?
Minoxidil does not work in the same way for every type of hair loss or every person. It may not be right for your stage or cause. It may be used incorrectly, or it may need more time. Trichoscopy will show what is actually happening to your follicles. It helps assess whether to continue, change the preparation or add other measures.
Can I proceed straight to a treatment (mesotherapy, PRP), without consultation?
You can — but it is a shot in the dark. Mesotherapy and PRP are tools that make sense when follicles are active and the type of hair loss is suitable for them. Without diagnosis, you do not know whether your follicles will respond. Consultation is there to ensure that the treatment you choose is appropriate in your case.
Do I need to bring test results?
You do not — consultation is still worthwhile without them. However, if you have recent results (full blood count, ferritin, TSH, testosterone, DHT), bring them with you. This is especially important if hair loss is accompanied by fatigue, sleep problems or low libido — these clues may matter. After the consultation, the trichologist will indicate what further tests may be needed.
My father has been bald since the age of 40 — what can I expect?
Family history is a genuine risk factor in AGA, but it does not guarantee the same course. Trichoscopy will show the current condition of your follicles and the degree of miniaturisation — this is specific information, not a statistic. A preventive visit at an early stage is designed for situations like this: you know what you are dealing with before the process clearly progresses.
