Threading is a manual method that uses no products that penetrate the skin, so it's often chosen during pregnancy as a gentle alternative to wax and depilatory creams. However, skin during pregnancy tends to be more reactive and prone to redness. Mention your pregnancy when booking, and your specialist will proceed more gently and finish with a cool compress.
Breastfeeding is not a contraindication — threading doesn't introduce any substances into the body. If pregnancy has left you with more noticeable peach fuzz (common with hormonal changes), threading tidies it up gently, without chemicals or heat.

Frequently asked questions

Will threading the upper lip make hair grow back thicker and darker?
No — that's a myth that comes from shaving. Shaving cuts hair at skin level and leaves a blunt, darker-looking tip, which appears thicker. Threading removes the hair together with the follicle, so regrowth is finer, lighter, and less noticeable than before a series of sessions.
I have vascular skin — is this safe?
Threading is one of the gentlest facial hair removal methods for vascular skin, precisely because it doesn't heat the skin or stick to it like wax. Some temporary redness may appear but fades quickly. Let your specialist know if your skin flushes easily — she'll adjust the pace and finish with a soothing compress.
I use retinol — can I still come in for threading?
Often, yes — threading tends to be safer than wax, since it doesn't tear the epidermis. Even so, mention any retinol or acids before your visit. Your specialist will assess your skin and decide whether to proceed straight away or recommend a brief break from active skincare.
Can I come in for threading with makeup on?
On the day of your treatment, arrive without foundation or powder in the area to be treated. Skin should be clean and dry — no creams or oils, as these make it harder for the thread to grip the hair. Eye or lip makeup elsewhere on the face is fine.
Threading or waxing for the upper lip?
