Threading — facial hair removal with thread for women

Women's face — peach fuzz, upper lip, and hormone-related hair

For women, threading mainly addresses the face: upper lip, chin, cheeks, and a precise brow contour. It's the method of choice for vascular, sensitive skin, and skin treated with retinol or acids — the thread works without wax, without heat, and without any product on the skin, so it's less likely to trigger redness. Ideal if you want a smooth face and a sharp contour without irritation.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Peach fuzz and stray facial hairs — upper lip, chin, cheeks, along the brow line.
  • Vascular and sensitive skin — the thread doesn't heat or stick to the skin, so it triggers less redness than wax.
  • Skin treated with retinol or acids — when the epidermis is thinner and wax can be risky, threading offers a safer alternative (following consultation).
  • A precise brow contour — a perfectly sharp, clean arch line, with no chemicals involved.
  • Anyone wanting to avoid shaving facial hair — no stubbly regrowth, no "darker" upper lip effect.
  • Men — tidying brows, refining the beard line, clearing cheeks and neck; discreet and to the point.

Women's face — peach fuzz, upper lip, and hormone-related hair

For women, threading typically addresses delicate peach fuzz and individual darker hairs — above the upper lip, on the chin, along the jawline and on the cheeks. Facial skin is thin and prone to irritation, so precision matters, along with a method that doesn't tear the epidermis. The thread grips the hair itself, not the surrounding skin — hence the clean result and less redness than after waxing. It's an ideal choice if you want smoothness without any chemical intervention.
If hair on the chin or upper lip is noticeable and increasing over time, it's worth treating this as a signal too. Excessive, "male-pattern" hair growth in women can sometimes relate to hormone balance. Threading tidies up the appearance in the short term, but if the issue is significant, mention it to your specialist — she can suggest a medical consultation if needed. This is grooming, not diagnosis.

Vascular, sensitive skin, and skin on active skincare

This is exactly where threading shows its advantage. Vascular skin, and skin prone to flushing, doesn't cope well with heat or the mechanical pull of wax. Thread works differently — it doesn't heat the area or tear the epidermis away along with the hair, so the risk of irritation is lower. For many clients with reactive skin, this is the only facial hair removal method they can tolerate comfortably.
If you use retinoids (tretinoin, adapalene) or active acids in your facial routine, be sure to mention this before the treatment. The stratum corneum is thinner in that case. Threading tends to be safer than wax, but your specialist will still assess your skin's condition and may recommend a short break from acids, or a gentler approach.

Brows: a perfectly sharp contour, without forcing a feminine look

Brow threading gives an exceptionally clean, sharp line — the thread catches even short, pale hairs that tweezers can miss. It's a precise tool for finishing the brow contour and tidying the space between the brows and beneath the arch. We always tailor the shape to your features, not to a template — threading simply completes the outline the specialist defines.
Brow threading pairs well with brow shaping and architecture, as well as with henna or tinting — contour and colour in a single visit. If you're coming in for a complete brow refresh, let reception know, and we'll plan the visit so everything is done in one go.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding — what to know

Threading is a manual method that uses no products that penetrate the skin, so it's often chosen during pregnancy as a gentle alternative to wax and depilatory creams. However, skin during pregnancy tends to be more reactive and prone to redness. Mention your pregnancy when booking, and your specialist will proceed more gently and finish with a cool compress.
Breastfeeding is not a contraindication — threading doesn't introduce any substances into the body. If pregnancy has left you with more noticeable peach fuzz (common with hormonal changes), threading tidies it up gently, without chemicals or heat.

Frequently asked questions

Will threading the upper lip make hair grow back thicker and darker?
No — that's a myth that comes from shaving. Shaving cuts hair at skin level and leaves a blunt, darker-looking tip, which appears thicker. Threading removes the hair together with the follicle, so regrowth is finer, lighter, and less noticeable than before a series of sessions.
I have vascular skin — is this safe?
Threading is one of the gentlest facial hair removal methods for vascular skin, precisely because it doesn't heat the skin or stick to it like wax. Some temporary redness may appear but fades quickly. Let your specialist know if your skin flushes easily — she'll adjust the pace and finish with a soothing compress.
I use retinol — can I still come in for threading?
Often, yes — threading tends to be safer than wax, since it doesn't tear the epidermis. Even so, mention any retinol or acids before your visit. Your specialist will assess your skin and decide whether to proceed straight away or recommend a brief break from active skincare.
Can I come in for threading with makeup on?
On the day of your treatment, arrive without foundation or powder in the area to be treated. Skin should be clean and dry — no creams or oils, as these make it harder for the thread to grip the hair. Eye or lip makeup elsewhere on the face is fine.
Threading or waxing for the upper lip?
If you have sensitive or vascular skin, or use retinol or acids, threading is usually the better choice, as it works with thread alone, without any product on the skin. Wax can be faster over larger areas, but threading gives a sharper contour and causes less irritation to delicate facial skin.
