Manual extraction for men

Thicker skin, more sebum, a different problem — why men's pores block faster

Manual cleansing for men is shaped by physiology: men's skin produces considerably more sebum on average, has larger pores and a thicker epidermis that sheds more slowly. The result is persistent blackheads despite daily cleansing. The goal: thoroughly empty pores, stabilise excess oil and smooth texture — which also makes shaving easier.

Czas: around an hour

Regeneracja: redness fades within 1–2 days
Seria: single session or a series of 3–4 treatments every 4–6 weeks

When it's worth it — indications

Blackheads and blocked pores — open ("blackheads") and closed, most often on the nose, chin and forehead (the T-zone).
Oily and combination skin — shiny, with enlarged pores; regular cleansing helps stabilise sebum production.
Enlarged pores — once cleansed and emptied, pores appear visibly smaller and less noticeable.
Comedonal (early-stage) acne — removing blackheads before they progress into inflammatory blemishes; this is prevention, not treatment for severe acne.
Grey, tired, "city" skin — exposed to smog and dust; cleansing restores its freshness and lets it "breathe" again.
Skin preparation before another treatment — as prep for a peel, mesotherapy or device-based treatment — active ingredients penetrate more effectively into clean skin.
Anyone for whom "home remedies aren't working" — pores that stay blocked despite daily cleansing and face masks are a typical sign that professional extraction is needed.

The areas we work on

blackheads and excess sebum despite daily cleansing;
rough, uneven texture that makes shaving harder;
comedonal and mild inflammatory acne (without severe pustular breakouts);
we schedule shaving 24–48 hours after extraction — a razor too soon irritates the skin.

Thicker skin, more sebum, a different problem — why men's pores block faster

Men's skin produces, on average, around 60% more sebum than women's skin — that's physiology, not a hygiene habit. Sebaceous glands are larger and more active, the epidermis is thicker and sheds more slowly, and pores are wider. The result is predictable: sebum doesn't drain as efficiently as it does through thinner skin. It collects with dead cells at the base of the pore and forms a blackhead. Daily cleansing with a gel removes oil from the surface — but it doesn't empty the pore.

The solution is manual extraction. Steam opens the pores, an enzyme softens the contents, and the specialist uses sterile tools to remove exactly what is trapped inside. Precise work without trauma to the skin — completely different from squeezing on your own, which with thicker epidermis often ends in inflammation instead of a clean pore.

Beard and cleansing — a zone that needs a different approach

Men with facial hair — permanent or rotational — have one additional problem: the area under the chin, along the jawline and around the mouth is harder to cleanse at home and harder to extract in the treatment room. Beard hairs form a natural barrier to cleansing preparations, and the skin beneath them has contact with considerably less air — which encourages clogged pores and ingrown hairs.

The specialist tailors the course of the treatment to the current state of the hair growth: for short or freshly shaved hair — standard extraction; for denser hair — selective cleansing of the accessible areas and sebum-regulating preparations applied directly. This is not a compromise — it is a treatment tailored to the anatomy that delivers the full effect without the risk of irritating the hair follicles.

Shaving after the treatment — the 24 hours worth respecting

Manual extraction involves micro-injuries to the epidermis in areas where there were sebaceous plugs. For several hours after the treatment, the pores are open, the skin is reactive, and the protective barrier is weakened. A razor — even the gentlest one, even with shaving foam — mechanically irritates a surface that has just undergone a treatment. The result: irritation, localised inflammation, and a longer healing time.

Wait 24–48 hours. If you need to shave sooner, an electric trimmer set to minimal skin contact is gentler than a blade. After that window, shaving returns to normal — and skin, once cleansed, is often easier to shave: texture is more even, with fewer blackheads mechanically catching the blade.

Training, sweat and an active lifestyle — when it's worth waiting

After manual cleansing, open pores absorb whatever touches the skin more readily than usual. Sweat from training carries mineral salts and skin bacteria that can trigger closed comedones or minor inflammation on freshly cleansed, reactive skin. This isn't a reason to skip activity — but ideally, train in the morning and schedule the treatment for the afternoon or evening. Alternatively, keep the first 24 hours after the treatment to lighter exercise, and opt for a cool shower instead of a sauna.

Hold off on the sauna and swimming pool for 24 hours during this window. Pool chlorine irritates freshly cleansed skin, and excess sauna steam can trigger reactivity on skin that's already been through an intensive treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Will I look like I have a skin problem after the treatment — red, noticeable?

Mild post-extraction redness is normal and fades within 24–48 hours. Right after the treatment, skin may look a little different from usual — but not dramatically so. The next day, you can go about your normal routine: work, meetings, seeing people. The lasting result — cleaner pores and less shine — is a positive change, not a negative one.

When can I shave after manual cleansing?

The ideal window is 24–48 hours after the treatment. During this time, skin closes its pores and rebuilds its protective barrier following extraction. Shaving with a razor too soon can cause localised inflammation at extraction sites. If you need to shave sooner, an electric trimmer with minimal skin contact is safer than a blade and foam.

Can I exercise on the same day as the treatment?

Light activity — yes. Intense strength training, spinning, sauna and swimming pool — hold off for 24 hours. Sweat and high temperatures irritate freshly cleansed, reactive skin and can trigger closed comedones exactly where pores have just been emptied. Simple rule: the more intense the activity, the better to wait until the next day.

I have facial hair — is manual cleansing worthwhile in my case?

Yes — and especially in yours. Skin under facial hair is more prone to clogged pores, ingrown hairs and local inflammation than skin without facial hair. The course of the treatment is tailored to the current state of the facial hair — extraction of accessible areas, preparations regulating sebum under the facial hair, a mask matched to the zone. The effect is complete, the technique matched to the anatomy.

Can I see a difference after one treatment, or do I need a series?

After the first treatment, a clear difference is visible straight away — cleaner pores, less shiny skin, a more even texture. With regular visits (every 4–6 weeks), each subsequent treatment is easier and faster — because the skin is less congested. A lasting change in sebum production and pore condition builds up after 3–4 months of regular visits.
