Scalp oxybrasion for women

Why women's hair reacts differently to seborrhoea

For women, scalp oxybrasion is most often the answer to hair that "weighs down" too quickly, dandruff visible on dark clothing, or skin reacting to frequent styling (hair dryer, hairspray, dry shampoo). It's also often a deliberate reset before treatment — so ampoules or mesotherapy can work on clean skin.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Scalp seborrhoea — hair that gets oily quickly, feeling "weighed down" just a day after washing.
  • Dandruff — dry or oily; cleansing removes flakes and improves skin comfort (for severe dandruff, we combine this with targeted home care).
  • Itching and tightness of the scalp, when regular washing isn't enough.
  • Styling product build-up — residue from hairspray, dry shampoo, pastes and gels.
  • Preparation before treatment — clean skin before mesotherapy, ampoules or a strengthening series means better absorption.
  • A "reset" detox — seasonal scalp cleansing for those without a specific problem, but who value deeper care than washing alone provides.

The areas we work on

  1. oily roots despite washing every other day;
  2. dandruff and itching, especially seasonally;
  3. styling product build-up — hairspray, dry shampoo, pastes;
  4. cleansing as step 1 before a strengthening series.

Why women's hair reacts differently to seborrhoea

In women, the scalp can be especially sensitive to hormonal changes — the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause or hormonal contraception can all intensify seborrhoea and change how quickly hair becomes oily. This means even daily care can struggle to keep up: hair looks fresh in the morning, but feels heavy at the roots by evening. On top of that comes a cosmetic layer — dry shampoo, hairspray, styling oils — that builds up on the skin and blocks the follicles from breathing freely.
Scalp oxybrasion removes this complex layer: mechanically, but gently, using a stream of saline and oxygen solution. No abrasion, no friction on the hair strands — the applicator is guided directly over the scalp, not the hair itself. The result is clean, refreshed skin you can see and feel from the very first visit.

The most common reason women book this treatment

  • Oily roots appearing just a day or two after washing, despite using shampoos for oily hair.
  • Dandruff visible on dark clothing — dry or oily, often worse seasonally.
  • Itching and tightness of the scalp that doesn't ease after washing.
  • Styling product build-up: dry shampoo, hairspray, paste — layers that regular washing doesn't remove effectively.
  • Preparation before a strengthening treatment — cleansing the skin as step 1, after which ampoules and mesotherapy work at full strength.

Oxybrasion, colour and styling

This is a common question in the salon: will it damage the colour? The treatment works on the scalp, not the hair strands — the stream cleanses the skin, not coloured hair. Still, if you're planning to colour your hair, it's worth discussing the order of treatments with your specialist — cleansing before or after colouring each has its advantages and limits, and the right order depends on your skin condition and the type of dye used. Your specialist will suggest a plan that won't affect how long your colour lasts.
Gentle styling is possible straight after the treatment. It's best to avoid heavy pastes and dry shampoo for at least 24 hours, so as not to weigh down freshly cleansed skin — and to make the most of the fresh feeling that's so noticeable right after your visit.

Frequently asked questions

Will oxybrasion help if my hair gets oily from hormonal contraception?
Stream cleansing removes excess sebum and build-up from the scalp's surface — which brings noticeable relief and extends the time between washes. However, if seborrhoea is directly driven by hormones, the treatment alone won't change the underlying cause. In that case, oxybrasion works best as part of a wider plan: regular scalp hygiene supported by suitable home care and, if needed, a targeted treatment.
Can I come for the treatment if I have coloured hair and use a mask and oil regularly?
Yes. The scalp collects residue from everything you apply — including masks and oils, which often get closer to the roots than we realise. Oxybrasion cleanses exactly this layer of build-up. If you're planning to colour your hair soon, mention this during your consultation — your specialist will plan the right order.
How long will the result last?
The feeling of clean, lighter hair is noticeable right after the visit. How long it lasts depends on the activity of your sebaceous glands, your home care and your lifestyle. For intense seborrhoea, it's best to work in a series and choose a shampoo that doesn't stimulate sebum production — overly aggressive washing often overstimulates the sebaceous glands instead of calming them.
Is this a good treatment before a wedding or an important event?
Yes — this is one of the reasons women choose oxybrasion as a single session rather than a series. Clean, oxygenated skin means lighter hair at the roots and less oiliness on your big day. It's best to come a few days beforehand, so your skin has time to settle after the treatment.
Can oxybrasion help with seasonal scalp itching?
Often, yes. Seasonal itching is often linked to excess sebum, dandruff build-up, or changing conditions (dry air, winter hats). Stream cleansing removes this build-up and refreshes the skin, bringing noticeable relief. If the itching is severe, we'll combine the treatment with soothing home care.
