Male pattern baldness and a receding hairline — when the hairline recedes and the scalp shows through, SMP visually rebuilds a denser line and fills in the receding areas.
"Freshly shaved head" effect — for those who wear their hair very short or shaved and want the impression of even stubble.

Male pattern baldness affects the vast majority of men — a receding hairline at the temples, thinning at the crown, scalp showing through. Shaving your head is an elegant solution, but the contrast between dark stubble and pale, shiny scalp can be exactly what you're trying to avoid. SMP gives the effect of even, freshly shaved stubble — no regrowth, no transplants, no daily styling required.

For men, the SMP artist recreates a natural, slightly irregular hairline (a perfectly straight one looks artificial) and adds density to receding areas and the crown with micro-dots matched to your stubble colour. Men's scalp skin tends to be thicker — the technique accounts for this when choosing dot depth.

Common uses for men

Shaved-head effect — an even field of micro-dots mimicking fresh stubble after shaving; it removes the contrast between pale skin and darker hair.
Receding hairline — SMP visually rebuilds an earlier hairline shape, giving the impression of a fuller hairstyle at the front.
Crown thinning (vertex) — adds density to the area that shows through when hair is worn longer at the sides.

The shaved-head effect — what it actually means

The shaved-head effect is an illusion of stubble from a 0–0.5 mm shave, not a solid black scalp. Your SMP artist matches the pigment shade to your natural hair colour and skin tone — black pigment on pale skin with light blond hair is a mistake, not a goal. We aim for a natural, "one day after shaving" look that's indistinguishable from short stubble at a normal viewing distance.

That's why it's built as a series: the first session lays a lighter base layer, and subsequent sessions gradually deepen and refine it. It's better to build up than to remove excess.

SMP versus hair transplant — which, and when

This isn't an either-or choice — these methods often work together. A transplant relocates living follicles and gives you growing, natural hair, but it leaves a donor scar and requires adequate density in the recipient area. SMP works well to finish off a transplant result: it camouflages the linear FUT scar along the back of the head, evens out FUE point scars and visually adds density to the recipient area between transplanted strands.

Frequently asked questions

Won't it look like a tattoo on my head?

This is the most common concern, and an understandable one. A "tattoo" look comes from pigment that's too dark, a hairline that's too sharp, and dots that are too large and uniform — errors in execution, not flaws in the method. At J'adore, we build the effect gradually, over several sessions, starting from a lighter shade and an irregular line. You judge the final result after the whole series, not after the first session.

Do I still need to shave my head after SMP?

If you wear your hair very short (0–3 mm) — yes, keeping it short means SMP and your stubble visually complement each other. If your hair is longer and the goal is adding density to a parting or crown (not the shaved-head effect), shaving isn't required.

Can I exercise and go to the gym after the treatment?

Skip intense training for the first few days after a session — sweat on freshly treated skin can disturb pigment settling and irritate the micro-punctures. Once healed, you can return to full activity without restrictions.

How many years does SMP last, and does it need refreshing?

The effect lasts for years, but the pigment gradually fades — the pace depends on skin tone, sun exposure and care. SPF protection on exposed scalp noticeably slows fading. A touch-up every few years restores the freshness and intensity of the effect — this is a normal part of the long-term plan, not a mistake.

I have scars from an FUE transplant — will SMP cover them?

Yes. Camouflaging FUE scars is one of the standard SMP applications. The technique here differs slightly from the shaved-head effect — scarred skin takes pigment differently, so it requires precision and an experienced SMP artist. During your consultation, we assess the scar and plan the number of sessions.
