Storz Medical — shockwave therapy (ESWT) for men

Shockwave therapy for men — specifically, what it does and doesn't do

Men most often come in for reducing fibrosis and firming the abdomen and love handles, as well as post-sport recovery — the shockwave also works on fascia and tense myofascial bands. This is a genuine indication: shockwave therapy for men works well where skin and tissue have lost firmness, or where post-training tension is felt.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Cellulite — any grade, most often on the thighs, buttocks and abdomen; the shockwave breaks down the fibrous septa responsible for "orange-peel skin".
  • Fresh (red) stretch marks — respond best; the earlier you start, the better the result on texture and colour.
  • Older (white) stretch marks — the effect is slower, but the texture and firmness of the surrounding skin improve.
  • Scars — softening and flattening dense, hard scar tissue.
  • Body skin laxity — as a supporting measure when skin has lost its elasticity (e.g. after weight loss).
  • Post-pregnancy skin — the abdomen and hips, as part of a firming plan.
  • Facial lifting — a facial variant, used to tighten the skin and stimulate its rebuilding.

The areas we work on

  1. "muffin top" and love handles — treating fibrosis and firming the skin;
  2. lax abdominal skin after weight loss;
  3. fascia and tense-band recovery after intense training;
  4. traumatic and post-surgical scars — softening;
  5. zero downtime — you go straight back to your day after the visit.

Shockwave therapy for men — specifically, what it does and doesn't do

Shockwave therapy (ESWT) delivers an acoustic pressure impulse that penetrates the skin and subcutaneous tissue to around 3–4 cm. It mechanically loosens fibrous connective-tissue septa, stimulates microcirculation and prompts the skin to produce collagen. There's no needle, no incision and no downtime — you go straight back to your day.
In men, this treatment has different typical indications than in women — tissue structure, expectations and problem zones all differ.

Where shockwave therapy works well for men

  • Muffin top and love handles — fibrosis in the abdominal and love-handle area is a genuine indication; the shockwave improves skin quality and breaks down dense septa, with a firming effect visible after the series
  • Lax abdominal skin after weight loss — when the fat is gone but the skin hasn't caught up, the shockwave stimulates new collagen production
  • Post-sport recovery — the shockwave also works on fascia and tense myofascial bands; a use similar to physiotherapy (the same technology used for Achilles tendon issues or tennis elbow)
  • Traumatic and post-surgical scars — mechanical softening of scar tissue, improving elasticity

What shockwave therapy does — and doesn't do

The shockwave is not a weight-loss method. It doesn't reduce fat tissue and doesn't change the number on the scale. It works on skin structure, fibrosis and fascia regeneration. It gives the best results for physically active men who want to improve tissue quality in specific zones.
If the goal is localised fat reduction — that's a job for cryolipolysis, not the shockwave. If the goal is improving skin structure, firming and regeneration — the shockwave is a good tool.

What a series looks like for men

A series consists of 5–8 sessions, usually once a week. Results build up gradually — the skin keeps rebuilding collagen for weeks after the series ends. There's no real downtime: you can go back to training right after your visit. The treatment can feel intense (it's a mechanical wave), and we adjust intensity to the zone and to your own threshold.

Frequently asked questions

I have love handles and a bit of a muffin top — will the shockwave sort that out?
The shockwave will improve skin structure and break down fibrosis in that area — the firming effect is real. But if the issue is fat tissue itself, that calls for a different tool (cryolipolysis). During consultation we'll show you honestly what the shockwave will bring for your specific zones.
I train regularly — will the shockwave speed up recovery after intense training?
Yes, that's one of its valid uses. The shockwave works on fascia and tense myofascial bands — an effect similar to a physiotherapy treatment. The same technology has long been used in sports physiotherapy for tendon and muscle overload.
I have a scar from surgery — can the shockwave help?
Yes, the shockwave softens and flattens hard scar tissue, improving its elasticity. One condition: the scar must be fully healed — we don't treat fresh, unhealed tissue.
How long before I see results?
The first noticeable changes in the tissue — improved skin firmness — appear after a few sessions. We assess the full firming effect after a series of 5–8 sessions. The skin keeps rebuilding collagen for weeks afterwards, so the effect keeps maturing.
Is this a zero-downtime treatment?
Yes. After your visit you may notice mild redness, which fades within a few hours. You can train the same day. It's best to hold off on the sauna and hot baths for 24–48 hours.
