Storz Medical — shockwave therapy (ESWT) for women

Why cellulite isn't a matter of willpower — and what actually helps

In women, it is most often a matter of tackling cellulite on the thighs and buttocks, as well as stretch marks (pregnancy, weight changes) and loose skin on the abdomen. Women's skin is thinner, and the structure of connective tissue makes it prone to developing "orange-peel" skin — which is why shockwave therapy for cellulite in women is one of the most common indications in this area.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Cellulite — any grade, most commonly the thighs, buttocks and abdomen; the wave breaks down the fibrotic septa responsible for "orange-peel skin".
  • Fresh (red) stretch marks — respond best; the earlier you start, the better the result on texture and colour.
  • Older (white) stretch marks — the effect is slower, but the texture and firmness of the surrounding skin improve.
  • Scars — softening and flattening dense, hard scar tissue.
  • Body skin laxity — as a supporting measure when skin has lost its elasticity (e.g. after weight loss).
  • Post-pregnancy skin — the abdomen and hips, as part of a firming plan.
  • Facial lifting — a facial variant, used to tighten the skin and stimulate its rebuilding.

The areas we work on

  1. cellulite on the thighs and buttocks — smoothing and firming;
  2. stretch marks from pregnancy and weight fluctuations (abdomen, hips, bust);
  3. lax abdominal skin as part of a post-partum plan;
  4. scars (e.g. after a Caesarean section) — softening the tissue;
  5. facial lifting — tightening the skin without needles.

Why cellulite isn't a matter of willpower — and what actually helps

Cellulite appears in women regardless of weight, physical activity or calorie intake. It's a matter of anatomy — in female connective tissue, the septa between fat lobules run vertically, which pushes subcutaneous fat upward and creates the characteristic dimpling. No cream reaches deep enough into these septa. Shockwave therapy does.
The acoustic pressure impulse penetrates tissue to around 3–4 cm and mechanically loosens the fibrous connective-tissue septa. This isn't the circulation-boosting effect of a massage — it's a genuine mechanical stimulus that forces the tissue to remodel.

The zones women care about most

  • Thighs and buttocks — cellulite of varying grades, including firm, dense cellulite that doesn't respond to massage
  • Abdomen and hips — lax skin and stretch marks after pregnancy or weight fluctuations
  • Caesarean section scars — firm, dense scar tissue that the shockwave softens and flattens
  • Face — gentle shockwave work in the lifting variant, tightening the skin with no needles and no downtime

Before your first visit — what's worth knowing

Shockwave therapy rewards patience and regularity, not a quick fix before a weekend. The first visible changes usually appear after four to six sessions, and the skin continues rebuilding collagen for weeks after the series ends.
Shockwave therapy doesn't change the number on the scale. It improves skin structure and quality, breaks down fibrosis, and firms. It contours the body alongside your activity and hydration — not instead of them.

Frequently asked questions

I have cellulite on my thighs despite regular training — will the shockwave help?
Yes, and results are often best in active women. Cellulite is determined by connective-tissue structure, not lack of exercise — the shockwave mechanically breaks down fibrosis that no amount of training will dissolve. Physical activity then supports the effect by speeding up drainage of the released products.
I have stretch marks from pregnancy — some fresh, some older. Where should I start?
Fresh, red stretch marks (striae rubrae) respond faster and more visibly — so it's worth starting early. With older, white stretch marks the effect is slower, but skin texture and firmness improve. We often combine the shockwave with fractional laser — a more complete plan for tissue remodelling.
Can I have shockwave therapy right after giving birth?
Not while breastfeeding — that's a contraindication. Once breastfeeding has ended, absolutely. The shockwave works well for firming abdominal and hip skin after pregnancy, as part of a post-partum recovery plan.
How does this combine with the endermology or drainage I'm already doing?
This is one of the best combinations. The shockwave breaks down firm fibrosis; lymphatic drainage or endermology then removes the released products and improves contour. The cosmetologist decides on session order — usually shockwave first, drainage to finish.
I'm worried this treatment hurts — what does it actually feel like?
You feel rhythmic, mechanical pulses — intensity depends on the zone and on your own threshold. Thighs can feel more intense than the abdomen. The cosmetologist adjusts intensity to your comfort. Afterwards you may feel tenderness similar to post-workout soreness — temporary, and gone within a day.
