Device-based lymphatic drainage for women

Why your legs swell specifically — and what to do about it

For women, device-based drainage is most often about tackling swelling, water retention and water-related cellulite — especially on the legs, thighs and abdomen. It's often the anchor of an anti-cellulite series, and a favourite way to get lighter legs after a full day in heels. This is classic pressotherapy for women.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Heavy, swollen legs — by the end of the day, after standing or sitting for work.
  • Swelling and water retention — that "fluid retention" feeling in the legs and abdomen.
  • Cellulite — as support: better drainage means less retention and better-oxygenated tissue.
  • Skin after pregnancy — part of gentle regeneration and relief (after consultation and once postpartum recovery is complete).
  • Detox and a "reset" after the festive season — speeding up the elimination of built-up fluid.
  • Recovery after training — less muscle soreness and a faster return to form (popular with men).
  • Desk-based work and frequent flying — prevention against heaviness and swelling.
  • Support alongside a series of body-contouring treatments — drainage "rounds off" the work of other body therapies.
  • Stress and fatigue — this is simply a very relaxing, calming treatment.

The areas we work on

  1. heavy, swollen legs and that "fluid retention" feeling;
  2. anti-cellulite support — better drainage, less retention;
  3. relief during pre-menstrual tension (retention);
  4. gentle body regeneration after pregnancy (after consultation);
  5. relaxation and calm — an hour just for you.

Why your legs swell specifically — and what to do about it

Water retention in women isn't a whim — it's biology. Sex hormones (oestrogen, progesterone) affect vessel permeability and the tissues' ability to hold onto fluid. That's why your legs swell and feel "heavy" in the second half of your cycle, before your period, during pregnancy, after a long day in heels, or after hours at a desk. This isn't a matter of weakness or poor diet — your body simply has a hormonally driven tendency to retain fluid, especially in the lower limbs.
Device-based lymphatic drainage acts precisely on this mechanism: sequential compression from the cuffs stimulates lymph flow exactly where it slows down — from the ankles towards the groin, following physiology. You'll feel the effect after just one session as noticeably lighter legs. A series reduces recurring retention and creates better conditions for the skin — less "trapped fluid" in the tissue means less swelling and a weaker foundation for water-related cellulite.

Water-related cellulite — how drainage fits into the fight against it

Cellulite has several causes, but for many women, lymphatic stagnation and fluid retention play a dominant role — this is known as water-related cellulite: soft, worsened by pressure, and affected by your cycle or weather conditions. Pressotherapy doesn't eliminate fat tissue — and we won't claim that it does — but it genuinely supports microcirculation, relieves tissues and improves their oxygenation.
That's why device-based drainage plays an important role in anti-cellulite series: it prepares the tissue for treatment, and after a contouring session, it clears away what other therapies have "released". In practice, the best results come from combining pressotherapy with LPG endermology, cupping therapy or Arosha bandages — your cosmetologist selects the sequence during consultation, depending on what you're dealing with.

Skin and body shape after pregnancy — what's possible and when

Device-based lymphatic drainage is often one of the first treatments we turn to after childbirth and once postpartum recovery is complete — provided there are no contraindications. The post-pregnancy body retains a lot of fluid, tissues feel heavy, and skin needs a signal to bounce back. Pressotherapy is gentle, non-invasive and doesn't disturb the epidermis — important at a time when many stronger therapies are still off the table.
We always decide on including drainage after pregnancy individually, during consultation, taking into account whether you had a natural birth or a caesarean section, how your recovery is progressing, and whether you're breastfeeding. We never begin without a conversation first — but we also don't treat pregnancy as an automatic "no". It's a matter of assessing your specific situation.

Planning a pressotherapy series around your cycle and lifestyle

Women often ask whether it's worth timing drainage to their cycle. The practical answer: yes, if you tend towards strong retention in the second half of your cycle — scheduling a series for the days before your period gives a more noticeable effect, faster. This isn't a strict requirement, though — pressotherapy works at any point in your cycle, it's simply stronger wherever retention is currently at its highest.
The pace of a series — 2–3 sessions a week — fits neatly into a weekly rhythm: twice after work, once at the weekend. A session requires no preparation beyond staying hydrated and wearing comfortable clothing — you put on leggings, lie down, and for a full hour you can listen to a podcast, chat with our specialist, or simply relax. Zero downtime means you can leave and go straight to training, work or dinner — with no trace of the treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Does pressotherapy actually slim your legs?
Leg circumference can genuinely decrease — but honestly, this is the result of tissue dehydration, not fat loss. We remove excess fluid that had built up in the tissue, so your leg feels narrower and lighter. This effect is real and pleasant, but it isn't lasting without regular sessions — the fluid returns once circulation slows down again. Drainage works best as a permanent part of your lifestyle, not a one-off before a specific event.
Can I have pressotherapy right before my period, when I'm retaining fluid?
Yes — and that's often when it brings the greatest relief. Pre-menstrual swelling is a classic indication. The only reason to postpone is severe abdominal pain, inflammation or fever — in that case, we simply wait until it passes.
Is it safe during pregnancy?
Pregnancy requires individual assessment. During the first trimester and in complicated pregnancies, we postpone drainage. In an uncomplicated, well-progressing pregnancy, on selected areas (legs), it may be permitted after discussion with your cosmetologist and with your doctor's knowledge. We never start without consultation.
Will pressotherapy help with varicose veins?
It depends on the type of varicose veins and their cause. With mild, superficial changes, drainage can offer support and improve leg comfort. With advanced varicose veins, clotting disorders or thrombosis, it is contraindicated. That's why we always ask, and if there's any doubt, we consult your treating doctor.
How many sessions are needed to see a change in skin appearance?
You'll feel lighter, less heavy legs after your first session. A visible change in skin appearance — less cellulite, firmer-feeling tissue, reduced swelling — comes from a series, usually 8–12 sessions combined with other body therapies. Drainage on its own is support, not a standalone solution for cellulite — it works best as part of a broader programme.
