Manual lymphatic drainage for women

When the body holds on to water — rhythms you know

For women, manual drainage is most often about tackling swelling, water retention and water-related cellulite — especially in the legs, thighs and face. It's often a go-to ritual for lighter legs after a day in heels, and a favourite way to "de-puff" the face. This is classic lymphatic drainage for women.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Heavy, swollen legs — by the end of the day, after standing or sitting work.
  • Swelling and water retention — a "trapped water" feeling in the legs, ankles and abdomen.
  • Post-travel swelling — puffy legs after a long flight, drive or period of immobility.
  • Water-related cellulite — as support: better drainage means less retention and better-oxygenated tissue.
  • Facial swelling — puffy eyelids, a "bloated" face after a poor night's sleep, a fresher contour.
  • Detox and a "reset" after the festive season — speeding up the elimination of built-up fluid.
  • Post-workout recovery — a lighter feeling in the legs and a faster return to form.
  • Body contour support — drainage "finishes off" the work of other body-shaping treatments.
  • Stress and fatigue — it's simply a very relaxing, calming massage.

The areas we work on

  1. heavy, swollen legs and that "trapped water" feeling;
  2. anti-cellulite support — better drainage, less retention;
  3. relief during premenstrual tension (retention);
  4. facial drainage — puffy eyelids, a bloated face, a fresher contour;
  5. relaxation and calm — a moment just for you.

When the body holds on to water — rhythms you know

Fluid retention in women is rarely random. Legs swell more before a period, after a long day in heels, or on a hot afternoon — because hormones, posture and reduced muscle activity literally slow lymph drainage. Manual drainage steps into exactly this gap: a rhythmic, stroking massage using the Vodder technique guides fluid where it's meant to drain naturally — no needles, no pain, no downtime.
This isn't a massage that leaves you red and tired. You leave lighter — and that's the whole point.

Facial drainage — freshness for a specific occasion

Puffy eyelids in the morning, a bloated face after a sleepless night, or before an important event — manual facial drainage does for the eye and jaw area exactly what it does for the legs: it clears built-up fluid with gentle, wave-like movements along the neck's natural lymph nodes. The effect shows in the mirror — facial contour looks sharper, puffiness eases, and skin looks rested.
The key difference between facial drainage and a regular relaxation massage: there's no deep kneading here — just very precise, light guiding of the lymph. That's why it's one of the gentlest treatments you can have on the face.

Water-related cellulite — working from the fluid side

Not all cellulite looks or feels the same. Water-related cellulite is the type that changes depending on the day, the point in your cycle and your hydration levels — less visible in the morning, more visible in the evening, more pronounced after a stressful week. Manual drainage supports work on this type not by burning fat, but by precisely reducing retention: less built-up fluid means less tension in the tissue, less visible dimpling, and a better skin response to other body-contouring treatments.
This effect builds over a series — a single session relieves the legs in the moment, but real progress on water-related cellulite requires consistency.

What you feel during the session

Most women expect a classic massage — meaning noticeable pressure and kneading. Manual drainage is the exact opposite: you lie down, the therapist performs very calm, circular, wave-like movements, and the pressure is so light that some clients fall asleep halfway through. That's no accident — lymph flows just beneath the skin, and a stroking impulse is enough to get it moving. The sense of relief afterwards is, paradoxically, quite striking given how light the pressure is.

Frequently asked questions

Will manual drainage help with pre-period leg swelling?
Yes — water retention in the premenstrual phase is one of the classic indications for drainage. Hormonal changes slow lymph flow, so legs and ankles swell more than usual. Drainage rhythmically gets that stagnation moving and brings clear relief. It's best to book a session 2–4 days before you expect retention, rather than waiting until swelling is already pronounced.
Will facial drainage undo the results of Botox or hyaluronic acid?
Facial drainage is a very gentle technique — a light, stroking touch that doesn't affect muscles or deeper tissue layers. With recent Botox or hyaluronic acid injections, we wait at least 2 weeks before touching the treated area. Outside that area, and after that period, facial drainage is safe and can even support healing. Always tell your therapist about any treatments you've had in the past month.
How many sessions do I need to get rid of that "trapped water" feeling?
You'll feel relief after the very first session — legs feel lighter, the face looks fresher. Lasting improvement in your tendency to retain fluid, however, needs a series: usually 4–8 sessions at regular intervals, followed by maintenance sessions. Your therapist tailors the exact plan after a short conversation about your lifestyle, since the pace of results also depends on hydration, diet and activity levels.
Can I have leg drainage while pregnant?
Manual drainage is permitted from the second trimester onward, with approval from your obstetrician and provided there are no contraindications. We then work in a side-lying position and avoid the abdomen. In the first trimester, or with any pregnancy complications, we postpone the treatment. Before your first session during pregnancy, a conversation with the therapist and confirmation or clear approval from your doctor is required.
Will drainage help with leg swelling after a long flight?
This is one of the most common reasons clients book emergency sessions — just before travelling or right after returning. Sitting still for several hours literally stops lymph in its tracks, causing swollen ankles and a heavy feeling. Post-flight manual drainage gets flow moving quickly and brings noticeable relief — best combined with good hydration and a short walk the same day.
