African braids for women

When it's worth it — indications

• For holidays and time by the water — no daily styling needed, they cope well with moisture, the beach and the pool.
• For sport and activity — cornrows keep hair away from the face during training and in hot weather.
• When you want a break from daily styling — plait once, and you're set for weeks.
• When you want length or colour — extensions give an effect your own hair doesn't always allow.
• For a bold, decorative look — geometric patterns and coloured kanekalon as part of the style.
• For different hair types — the technique is matched to density and length during consultation.

Why women choose African braids

Extensions — when they make sense for women

• add volume for thin or sparse hair — the braids look thick and even, regardless of your natural hair density;
• change colour without dyeing — coloured kanekalon can be woven into just part of the braids as an accent, or used to change the whole look;
• add length to whatever you like — box braids to the hips or shoulders are a popular choice with extensions;
• protect your own hair — for a few weeks in braids, your natural hair gets a rest from daily heat and mechanical stress.

Braids and different women's hair types

• straight, Asian hair — often needs extensions if you want small, dense braids, as natural hair can be too smooth to hold a tight plait;
• wavy and curly hair — holds a plait very well, cornrows and box braids look natural;
• afro and very curly hair — the natural texture suits plaiting well, extensions are often optional.
