Arginine peels are showing up more and more on treatment menus and cosmetics labels. It sounds premium — arginine brings to mind sports recovery, amino acids, strength. But when a client asks whether it really firms the skin, an honest answer isn't simple or one-sided. Arginine does have confirmed effects at cellular level. The question is what that means in clinical practice, and how it differs from acid peels, which have supported skin rejuvenation for years. This article doesn't promise miracles — it breaks the tool down to basics.

Arginine: what it is and what it actually does

Arginine is an amino acid — a protein building block the body can produce itself, though in smaller amounts with age. In the skin it plays several roles at once: it takes part in nitric oxide synthesis (which dilates blood vessels and improves microcirculation), supports collagen repair, and acts as a natural component of NMF — the skin's natural moisturising factor.
