BODY CONTOURING & SLIMMING

Less swelling, lightness
“rhythmic pressure”

Heavy, swollen legs by the end of the day, that "fluid retention" feeling, orange-peel skin on the thighs, fatigue after a long flight, or hours spent standing or sitting — these are all signs that your lymphatic system and circulation need support. Pressotherapy (device-based lymphatic drainage) is a gentle treatment. Multi-chamber cuffs wrap around your legs, abdomen or whole body and apply sequential pressure — a wave moving from the extremities towards the heart — mirroring the natural direction of lymphatic flow.

The result? Tissues feel lighter, swelling reduces, and your body clears built-up fluid more efficiently. It's one of the most pleasant body treatments around — you simply lie down and breathe while the device does the work. At J'adore Instytut, this treatment is performed by an experienced cosmetologist using a BTL Lymphastim device. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your first visit.

  • Heavy, swollen legs
  • Swelling and water retention
  • Cellulite
  • Skin after pregnancy
  • Detox and a "reset" after the festive season
  • Recovery after training
  • Desk-based work and frequent flying
  • Support alongside a series of body-contouring treatments
  • Stress and fatigue

How it works

How it works

Your lymphatic system is your body's "drainage network" — it collects excess fluid, metabolic waste and toxins from tissues and carries them away. The problem is that lymph has no pump of its own (unlike blood, which the heart pumps) — it moves through muscle activity and breathing. When you sit, stand or stay still for long periods, lymph flow slows down and fluid builds up — hence swelling, heavy legs and that "fluid retention" feeling.

Pressotherapy provides that missing pump. We fit multi-chamber cuffs to your legs, abdomen or whole body. They inflate in sequence — starting at the ankles and moving upward, towards the groin — following the physiological direction of lymphatic flow exactly. Each chamber gently compresses, moves fluid forward, then releases to make way for the next wave. It's a rhythmic, wave-like compression massage that stimulates lymphatic and venous circulation and helps tissues feel lighter.

Important and honest: pressotherapy does not burn fat. Any reduction in circumference you might notice straight away comes mainly from tissue dehydration — the removal of built-up fluid. This is genuine relief and body support, but it doesn't replace diet or exercise.

Three levels in cross-section: the epidermis at the surface, the network of fine lymphatic vessels within the dermis beneath it, and deepest of all the larger collectors in the subcutaneous tissue. Sequential pressure from the cuffs moves lymph along the vessels under the skin, from the periphery towards the trunk. The specialist matches the strength and the direction of the work to the state of the tissues.
  1. Epidermisthe surface we guide the movement over
  2. Dermal lymphatic networkthe plexus we get moving first
  3. Lymphatic collectorsthe deeper route of lymph outflow

Women's and men's needs

How they differ

For her

Why your legs swell specifically — and what to do about it

For women, device-based drainage is most often about tackling swelling, water retention and water-related cellulite — especially on the legs, thighs and abdomen. It's often the anchor of an anti-cellulite series, and a favourite way to get lighter legs after a full day in heels. This is classic pressotherapy for women.

The areas we support

  1. heavy, swollen legs and that "fluid retention" feeling;
  2. anti-cellulite support — better drainage, less retention;
  3. relief during pre-menstrual tension (retention);
  4. gentle body regeneration after pregnancy (after consultation);
  5. relaxation and calm — an hour just for you.
For him

Recovery after training — what's missing from your recovery plan

For men, device-based lymphatic drainage is primarily about recovery after sport and lighter legs from standing work. Running, the gym, long hours on your feet — pressotherapy helps "reset" muscles faster, reduce that acid-soreness feeling, and relieve circulation. This is lymphatic drainage for men in its recovery form.

The areas we support

  1. recovery after training — less soreness, faster return to form;
  2. heavy legs from standing work (drivers, chefs, sales reps);
  3. support alongside a series of treatments for love handles and the midsection;
  4. prevention of swelling from a sedentary routine and frequent flying;
  5. zero downtime — an easy session, straight back to your day.

Fun fact: lymph is the only "circulation" system in your body without its own pump — it's driven mainly by muscle movement and breathing. That's why your legs swell after a day without movement, and feel lighter after a walk. Pressotherapy does exactly what a walk does for your lymph — except you get to lie down and relax.

Safety

What not to overlook

Pressotherapy is gentle and safe, but it's still a treatment that strongly stimulates circulation and lymph flow — which means it isn't suitable for everyone, or every condition. That's why consultation before your first session isn't a formality.

  1. Pre-treatment consultation

    Your cosmetologist will ask about varicose veins, heart and kidney conditions, thrombosis, pregnancy, recent injuries and surgery. This isn't idle curiosity — with certain conditions, drainage is contraindicated.

  2. Choosing the programme and pressure level

    We adjust pressure to your comfort and treatment goal; there's no single setting for everyone.

  3. Listening to your body

    The pressure should feel pleasant, not painful. Pain, numbness or tingling is a signal to reduce intensity — tell us straight away.

Red flag: "a miraculous minus 10 cm in one session" and drainage without a consultation · If someone promises you'll lose several centimetres or "burn fat" in one hour of pressotherapy — that's marketing, not biology. Drainage removes excess fluid and relieves tissue; it doesn't eliminate fat tissue. Second red flag: a treatment with no questions about varicose veins, thrombosis, heart or kidney conditions, or pregnancy. With thrombosis or active infection, drainage is dangerous — a good salon always asks before fitting the cuffs.

Contraindications

When to postpone the treatment

Some contraindications are permanent, others temporary — in the latter case, we simply postpone the treatment until the situation resolves. Because drainage strongly stimulates circulation, we take this list seriously.

We don't perform it
  • Deep vein thrombosis and clotting disordersan absolute contraindication; stimulating circulation is dangerous here.
  • Pregnancyrequires individual assessment; we postpone many variants, and allow some only after consultation and once postpartum recovery is complete.
  • Heart failure and serious kidney diseasemoving a large volume of fluid puts strain on these organs; assessment is required.
  • Advanced varicose veins and certain vascular conditionsrequire assessment and possibly your treating doctor's approval.
  • Active cancer and ongoing oncological treatmentdrainage only with the knowledge and approval of your treating doctor.
  • Active infection, inflammation or feverwe wait until you've recovered.
  • Recent injuries, open wounds, skin inflammationin the cuff area — we postpone until healed.
  • Recent sunburn or skin irritationin the treatment area — we let the skin settle first.

From the cosmetologist's chair

The most commonly overlooked issue is varicose veins and "heavy legs for medical reasons." Drainage can be excellent support in these situations — but it can also be contraindicated, depending on the cause. That's why I never guess: with varicose veins, heart or kidney issues, we always establish safety during consultation, sometimes asking for your treating doctor's approval.

This isn't a complete list — we'll go through your medical history, medications and previous treatments individually during consultation before your first session.

What to expect

No surprises

The best thing about pressotherapy is how little it asks of you. You lie down comfortably, we fit the cuffs, set the programme — and you simply relax. The pressure is rhythmic and pleasant; most people relax completely, and some simply fall asleep.

  1. Faza 1.after the sessionan immediate feeling of lightness and relief in the legs
  2. Faza 2.a few hoursyour body finishes the job — stay hydrated to support this
  3. Faza 3.5+ sessionsmore noticeable reduction in circumference and a lower tendency to swell
  4. Faza 4.full serieslasting relief plus anti-cellulite support; maintenance sessions afterwards
I often hear, "I had one session and the swelling came back the next day." That's normal — one drainage session won't change circulation habits. Pressotherapy works like training: a single session provides relief here and now, but real, more lasting improvement comes from a regular series, ideally 2–3 times a week.
From the cosmetologist's chair

What's normal during and after the treatment

  • a feeling of pleasant, wave-like pressure moving up your legs;
  • lighter, relieved legs, often noticeable after the first session;
  • needing the toilet more often after the treatment — a good sign that the lymph has been stimulated;
  • sometimes temporary redness of the skin under the cuffs — fades within minutes.

The effect on circumference builds gradually, and holds better the more you support it with movement, hydration and — if that's your goal — diet. Drainage on its own is support, not a magic shortcut.

Your routine after the treatment

What you can do, and when

This is one of the few body treatments with practically no restrictions afterwards — no downtime, no visible signs, and you go straight back to your day. A few simple rules will still make the effect better:

  1. Water and hydration

    drink more, straight away

    This is the most important thing: a glass of water before and after the treatment, and don't restrict fluids in the evening. Drainage gets the lymph moving — your kidneys need water to complete the elimination process. Hydration genuinely improves the result.

  2. Movement and walking

    absolutely fine

    Light movement after the treatment only helps — a walk "rounds off" the drainage work, since muscle activity drives the lymph. You can return to your daily activity right away.

  3. Strength training / intense exercise

    no restrictions

    You can train the same day. For athletes, pressotherapy often features as a recovery step AFTER training — that's when it works best.

  4. Sauna and hot baths

    best to skip these the same day

    Strong heat further dilates blood vessels and may increase the feeling of fatigue after an intense drainage session. If you're planning a sauna, it's best on a different day.

  5. Sun and tanning

    no restrictions

    Pressotherapy doesn't disturb the epidermis and doesn't make skin more sensitive to sun — tanning isn't a contraindication. Use SPF as usual, for the sake of your skin's health.

  6. Alcohol and diet

    skip alcohol, keep it light

    Alcohol encourages fluid retention — working against what the drainage achieves. It's best to skip it that day and opt for a light, less salty meal, so you don't add to retention.

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionWill I lose weight with pressotherapy?
    AnswerNot in the sense of burning fat. Drainage removes excess fluid and relieves tissue, so circumference can decrease — but this comes from tissue dehydration, not fat loss. It's genuine support for your body shape and for tackling cellulite, ideally paired with diet and movement.
  2. QuestionHow many sessions are needed to see results?
    AnswerYou'll usually feel lighter legs after the first session. A more lasting improvement — less swelling, reduced circumference, anti-cellulite support — builds up over a series, typically several to a dozen or so sessions performed 2–3 times a week. Your cosmetologist will set the exact plan.
  3. QuestionHow long do results last?
    AnswerRelief after a single treatment lasts hours to days. Results after a full series last longer, especially when supported by movement and hydration. After that, it's worth having maintenance sessions, since circulation habits won't change on their own.
