IPL photorejuvenation / DYE-VL for men

IPL photorejuvenation — skin that looks like it used to

Men most often come in for photorejuvenation for men after years without SPF protection: sun spots on the face and hands, dark marks from shaving irritation, grey skin tone and broken capillaries on the cheeks and nose. The goal: a rested, even tone — without a "done" look and without downtime.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Sun-induced hyperpigmentation — spots on the face, décolletage and hands left over from years of sun exposure.
  • Freckles and age spots (lentigines) — widespread pigmentation you want to lighten.
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — dark marks left by blemishes or irritation (including after shaving).
  • Uneven, grey skin tone — dull, "tired"-looking skin with no radiance.
  • Broken capillaries and redness — telangiectasia, diffuse redness, skin prone to rosacea.
  • Photoageing — loss of radiance, enlarged pores, fine texture irregularities.
  • Skin preparation for an event — when you want an even tone and a "fresh" look.

The areas we work on

  1. sun-induced hyperpigmentation and age spots on the face and hands;
  2. dark marks from shaving and from old acne;
  3. redness and broken capillaries, often on the nose and cheeks;
  4. zero downtime — you're back at the office the same day (shaving is delayed by a day).

IPL photorejuvenation — skin that looks like it used to

Years without SPF, daily shaving that leaves micro-irritation, working outdoors, or simply time itself — skin accumulates all of this as uneven tone, dark spots and dullness. This isn't purely an aesthetic issue: a face that looks tired and aged works against you in every context, professional and personal.
IPL photorejuvenation targets melanin and broken capillaries selectively. Wherever tone is uneven — sun spots, marks from irritation, mild redness — IPL breaks down pigment clusters using heat, while triggering collagen production at the same time. The result: denser, more even, healthier-looking skin. No recovery time needed.

Men's skin after shaving — a specific factor we can't ignore

Freshly shaved skin and skin with facial hair are two different treatment realities, each requiring a different approach. Men who shave regularly often have:
For men with facial hair or a beard: we perform the treatment on hair-free areas — forehead, cheekbones, nose, neck. Facial hair doesn't rule out the treatment, but it precisely defines the treatment zones. During consultation, we assess the distribution of pigmentation and adjust the scope accordingly.
One fact: men's skin is, on average, 20–25% thicker than women's skin, which means energy parameters are chosen individually based on anatomy, phototype and goal — not according to a fixed template.
  • Dark marks from irritation caused by ingrown hairs (especially on the neck and jawline)
  • Uneven tone in areas of frequent razor friction
  • Localised inflammation that, with IPL, requires either avoiding the area or adjusting the energy settings

Training, the gym, physical activity — how to combine this with IPL

One rule applies after the treatment: for the first 48 hours, avoid intense physical activity and anything that raises your body temperature (sauna, hot showers, steam rooms). The reason is simple — heat increases inflammation, and skin is temporarily more sensitive to thermal stimuli after IPL.
After 48 hours — train without restrictions. Running, the gym, combat sports — none of these are an issue. The one constant rule after an IPL series is SPF 50+ whenever you go outside: sweat and activity themselves aren't harmful, but unprotected UV exposure can reverse the results.
Shaving from the next day onwards — as normal, but gently. Skin can be slightly sensitive for the first 24 hours after a session.

The flaking period — what to expect and what to do

Pigmentation darkens after the treatment — this is a normal and expected reaction; melanin has absorbed the energy and is being broken down thermally. Dark spots are more visible for 5–10 days, then flake off naturally. Don't speed up this process — no scrubbing, no mechanical exfoliation, no peels during this window.
Externally: mild redness fades within a few hours. Skin may feel slightly dry. Moisturise as usual. SPF 50+ is essential.
At work, at meetings, out and about — no restrictions from the next day. No one else notices the treatment — they'll only see that dark spots look a little more pronounced for a few days, then disappear.

Frequently asked questions

Can I shave the day after photorejuvenation?
Yes, from the next day onwards — gently. Skin is temporarily more sensitive for the first 24 hours, so avoid additional stimulation. The following morning — normal shaving with a razor or electric shaver, avoiding aggressive alcohol-based balms for the first few days after the session.
Will anyone notice I've had a treatment?
Not in the sense of looking "done". During the flaking window (5–10 days), dark spots look a little more pronounced — but this looks like a mark from irritation, not a sign of a treatment. Once flaking is complete, the result is simply healthier, more even skin tone. People will comment that you look better or well rested — without pointing to a specific treatment.
Can I train after the treatment?
For the first 48 hours, skip intense training and the sauna — heat increases inflammation and slows healing. After 48 hours — full activity, no restrictions. The one constant rule is SPF 50+ before going outside, especially for outdoor sports.
Will IPL help with marks from shaving irritation?
Yes — dark marks from ingrown hairs, shaving irritation and post-inflammatory pigmentation are among the most common targets of IPL in men. IPL breaks down the melanin clusters responsible for pigmentation. If the problem keeps recurring (ingrown hairs), it's worth combining IPL with proper shaving technique and, where relevant, laser hair removal in the most problematic areas.
What can I combine with photorejuvenation to get faster results?
We most often recommend ClearLift — IPL evens out skin tone, ClearLift stimulates collagen in the deeper layers. Together they give comprehensive rejuvenation with no downtime. Needle mesotherapy can also be added after an IPL series for deeper hydration and revitalisation. We build the plan during consultation, based on your goal and how much time you want to dedicate to the course of treatment.
