Programme for oily skin / combination skin for men

Men's skin produces more sebum — and that's not by chance

Men's skin naturally produces more sebum (androgens), has a thicker epidermis and larger pores — hence more intense shine and more blackheads. Add shaving to this, which, with the wrong products, throws the barrier off balance. The oily skin treatment for men aims to keep skin matte all day and simplify care down to a few steps, without a fussy routine.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Oily skin — shine across the whole face, visible from early in the day.
  • Combination skin — an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, chin) alongside drier cheeks.
  • Enlarged, clogged pores — especially visible on the nose and cheeks.
  • Blackheads — open and closed comedones that keep returning despite cleansing.
  • Mild comedonal acne — occasional blemishes, skin that feels congested.
  • Oily but dehydrated skin — shiny, yet tight and flaky at the same time.
  • Oily skin after years of poor care — over-dried with "de-greasing" products, which only increases sebum production.
  • Prevention for teenagers and young adults — before oiliness develops into acne.

The areas we work on

  1. deeper cleansing for thicker, more oil-prone skin;
  2. minimising large pores on the nose and cheeks;
  3. reducing bumps and blackheads made worse by shaving;
  4. a simple home routine: cleansing gel + a light SPF emulsion, adjustments to shaving technique (gel instead of foam, alcohol-free toner).

Men's skin produces more sebum — and that's not by chance

Androgens, which are responsible for thicker skin and greater muscle mass, also drive the sebaceous glands to work harder. Result: oilier skin, larger pores, more noticeable blackheads — and more intense shine than women with the same skin type experience. This is biology, not a hygiene issue. The oily skin treatment for men accounts for thicker skin and stronger oil production — the cleansing protocol is deeper, and acids are chosen for the intensity of the oiliness.

Shaving and oily skin — why this combination is especially tricky

Alcohol-based shaving foam, a blunt blade, washing with soap and water after shaving — each of these damages the skin barrier and signals the sebaceous glands to produce extra sebum. Result: skin shines more after shaving, pores look bigger, and blackheads concentrate along the jawline and neck. During the treatment, your cosmetologist will suggest adjustments to your shaving routine — a gel instead of foam, an alcohol-free toner, a light SPF emulsion instead of an alcohol-based aftershave. This doesn't require a 10-step routine — just three specific swaps that reduce shine and irritation.

A simple home routine — 3 steps that really work

The biggest mistake is either skipping care altogether or using one unsuitable product (soap, alcohol-based toner). After the treatment, your cosmetologist builds a simple routine matched to how oily your skin is:
Avoid creams with heavy oils — they clog pores and increase shine.
  • Morning: cleansing gel with BHA or zinc + a light oil-free SPF 50+ emulsion (don't skip sun protection — acids in the series increase sun sensitivity);
  • Evening: the same cleanser + niacinamide on the T-zone or whole face, if needed;
  • Shaving: gel (not alcohol-based foam), cool water afterwards, a light alcohol-free toner.

Frequently asked questions

Isn't this a waste of time — won't skin just go back to being oily?
Oiliness is a skin type, so the tendency stays. But the treatment isn't meant to "cure" oily skin forever — it's meant to bring sebum production back to normal and give you the tools to maintain that. After a full series and with a simple home routine, skin stays matte for much longer, pores look smaller, and blackheads return far less often. Occasional maintenance sessions keep the result going.
How many sessions — and can I go once a month?
A full series is 4–6 sessions every 1–2 weeks. A less frequent schedule (once a month) is possible, but results are weaker and build more slowly — the sebaceous glands need regular signals to shift how they work. Once the series is complete, occasional maintenance sessions are enough.
I've had blackheads on my nose and cheeks for years — can they even be removed?
Yes, but not with a single treatment. Blackheads deeply embedded in pores require a sequence: first HydraFacial or manual extraction (clearing), then BHA acids (regulation), then barrier repair. Some clear quickly, others need the full series. The result is real — visibly smaller pores and fewer blackheads after several sessions.
My skin shines and feels tight after washing at the same time — what's going on?
That's a classic over-drying effect — a gel that's too harsh, alkaline soap or alcohol-based toner damage the barrier, and skin reads this as dryness and produces sebum to compensate. That tight feeling after washing is the damaged barrier itself. Often the first step in the treatment is simply switching cleansers and adding light hydration — which, paradoxically, reduces shine.
Can I go to the gym after the treatment?
It depends on the stage. After HydraFacial, you can return to your usual activities the same day, avoiding heavy sweating for a few hours. After an acid peel, it's best to skip the gym and sauna for 24 hours — high temperature and sweat can increase irritation. Your cosmetologist will confirm specifics after each session.
