Fractional ABLATIVE laser (iPIXEL Er:YAG + CO2) for men

Why men choose ablative laser

In men, acne scars from adolescence and stretch marks from rapid muscle gain (gym training, weight fluctuations) dominate. Skin can be thicker and more oily, which a specialist factors into choosing settings. This is ablative fractional laser for men — with an emphasis on a realistic recovery plan built around work and training.

When it's worth it — indications

  • Acne scars — atrophic (ice-pick, boxcar, rolling); flattening and restructuring the tissue is the main indication for ablative lasers.
  • Post-surgical and post-injury scars — softening, smoothing, improved elasticity.
  • Stretch marks — fresh (red) marks respond better and faster; old (white) ones need more patience and more sessions.
  • Deep wrinkles and uneven texture — resurfacing, meaning rebuilding the "quality" of the skin's surface.
  • Enlarged pores — reducing their visibility.
  • Photoageing — skin roughened and unevenly toned after years of sun exposure.
  • Selected hyperpigmentation and superficial skin changes — after specialist assessment.

The areas we work on

  1. acne scars — cheeks, forehead, jawline;
  2. stretch marks — arms, chest, back, sides, abdomen;
  3. texture and pores — "rough", uneven facial skin;
  4. photoageing in people who spend a lot of time in the sun.

Why men choose ablative laser

Acne scars from adolescence are a problem that doesn't disappear on its own — with age and good skincare they may fade slightly, but the texture and depth remain. Men come in for ablative laser mainly because they want real change — not masking, but rebuilding. A face that simply looks well cared for, without visible traces from years ago.
Stretch marks from rapid muscle gain (gym training, weight fluctuations) are the second most common reason — shoulders, chest, back, sides, abdomen. Often overlooked because men tend not to worry about it — but in practice, many would like to change it; they just didn't know an effective method existed.

Male skin — what a specialist takes into account

Men's facial skin is, on average, thicker and more oily than women's — this matters when choosing settings and technology. A specialist also factors in facial hair: the jawline and cheek area is often where acne scars sit, while also being regularly shaved and irritated — precision in the laser's work matters here even more.
Men more often underestimate post-treatment protection, which can be a mistake: after ablative laser, shaving the treated area is off-limits until fully healed, and SPF 50+ is mandatory for weeks — without it, the result can be undone no matter how perfectly the treatment was performed.

Downtime — when can I get back to work and training

This is the question men ask most often about ablative laser, and it's good that it's asked before rather than after the treatment. Recovery depends on the technology chosen and the depth of the treatment:
The specific plan — how many days off work, when to train, when you can swim — is set during consultation, after assessing the problem and treatment area.
  • Er:YAG (iPIXEL) — a gentler technology with shorter healing time; often the better choice if you want to get back to normal life sooner;
  • CO2 — a stronger effect, but a longer break; for deep scars, this may be the justified choice.
  • Gym and intense exercise: break until healed (sweat and friction irritate recovering skin);
  • Sauna and pool: wait until fully healed;
  • Office work: with a gentler technology, an earlier return is often possible; with a stronger one, plan for a calmer week.

Acne scars — a realistic picture of results

Ablative laser doesn't remove scars completely — but it can significantly flatten them and even out texture, giving a clearly visible everyday difference in the mirror. Deep scars (especially ice-pick and boxcar) need a series, and the effect builds over the weeks following each session, as new collagen matures. There's no miracle treatment that does this in one go — trust anyone who tells you this plainly.

Frequently asked questions

I have acne scars on my cheeks and jawline — which technology is better?
It depends on the depth of the scars and your skin phototype. For lighter scars and a tight schedule, Er:YAG is often enough. Deeper, more resistant scars may respond better to CO2, at the cost of longer downtime. We decide after examining your skin during consultation.
Will ablative laser work on stretch marks on my arms and chest from the gym?
Yes — stretch marks from rapid muscle gain are one of the indications. Fresh, red stretch marks respond better than old, white ones. A series of treatments can bring clear fading and smoothing — not complete disappearance, but a noticeable difference.
I shave my face daily — how does that fit with the treatment and recovery?
Shaving the treated area is off-limits until the skin fully heals. This is one reason it's worth scheduling the treatment for a calmer period. A specialist will give you a specific timeframe after assessing the depth of treatment.
Can men with darker skin tones safely have ablative laser?
Yes, but it requires care — with a higher phototype, the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) increases. A specialist will more often choose Er:YAG and safer settings, and will treat recent tanning as a reason to postpone the treatment. We assess your skin tone at consultation — that's not a reason to rule out treatment, just to approach it precisely.
I train five times a week — can I have this treatment in summer?
Summer is the hardest season for ablative lasers: sun, sweat, physical activity — three factors that complicate healing and post-treatment protection. It's possible, but needs planning: a treatment away from intense sun exposure, a break from training until healed, and strict SPF 50+ for weeks. Spring and autumn are a more convenient choice.
