Fractional ABLATIVE laser (iPIXEL Er:YAG + CO2) — treatment at J'adore Instytut

Fractional ABLATIVE laser (iPIXEL Er:YAG + CO2)

Genuinely remodels the skin — acne scars, stretch marks and deep wrinkles. A stronger effect than the non-ablative version, at the cost of a few days' recovery.

LASER THERAPY / HIGH-TECH / REMOVAL

Deep skin remodelling
“the stronger option”

Acne scars that have stayed on your cheeks despite years of skincare. Stretch marks after pregnancy or rapid weight change that won't fade.

Skin that has lost its smoothness — pores have enlarged, texture is uneven, and creams only improve it on the surface. Ablative fractional laser works where cosmetics can't reach — it precisely vaporises microscopic columns of tissue, triggering intensive remodelling and new collagen production in response. This is the strongest class of lasers for texture and scars, which is why it comes with real recovery time — and why it needs proper planning. At J'adore Instytut we offer two ablative technologies: iPIXEL Er:YAG 2940 nm (gentler, shorter downtime) and fractional CO2 laser 10600 nm (deeper, the strongest resurfacing option). The treatment is performed by a doctor or experienced cosmetologist. Below you'll find everything worth knowing before your first visit.

  • Post-surgical and post-injury scars

  • Deep wrinkles and uneven texture

How it works

How it works

Rather than a single continuous beam, ablative fractional laser creates a grid of thousands of microscopic columns — in each one, it precisely vaporises (ablates) a tiny fragment of tissue, leaving intact, healthy skin around it. These "bridges" of healthy tissue act as a cell reservoir that speeds up healing and drives remodelling. In response to the damage, the body launches a repair cascade: it produces new collagen, and the skin literally rebuilds its structure.

"Ablative" means the laser breaches the surface (unlike the non-ablative version, which heats the skin without vaporising it). That's why the effect on scars and texture is stronger — and why real recovery time follows. Both our ablative technologies — Er:YAG 2940 nm and CO2 10600 nm — are absorbed by water in the skin, but differ in depth and intensity of action.

Three layers of skin in cross-section: the epidermis at the surface, the dermis beneath it, and deepest of all the subcutaneous tissue. The beam vaporises the epidermis in a regular grid of microcolumns and reaches down into the dermis. The specialist matches the density of the grid and the power to the area.
  1. Epidermisthe layer the beam enters through
  2. Dermisthe level where remodelling starts
  3. Subcutaneous tissuedeeper than the columns of the beam reach

Good to know: it isn't the laser that "smooths" the scar — your own body does that. The laser simply triggers the skin's repair process in a controlled way. That's why the effect builds over weeks, not straight after you leave the salon.

Ideal for

Ideal for

  1. Acne scarsatrophic (ice-pick, boxcar, rolling); flattening and restructuring the tissue is the main indication for ablative lasers.
  2. Post-surgical and post-injury scarssoftening, smoothing, improved elasticity.
  3. Stretch marksfresh (red) marks respond better and faster; old (white) ones need more patience and more sessions.
  4. Deep wrinkles and uneven textureresurfacing, meaning rebuilding the "quality" of the skin's surface.
  5. Enlarged poresreducing their visibility.
  6. Photoageingskin roughened and unevenly toned after years of sun exposure.
  7. Selected hyperpigmentation and superficial skin changesafter specialist assessment.
  8. Whether Er:YAG or CO2 is the better choice — or indeed whether an ablative laser is right at all, versus a gentler option — depends on the type and depth of the problem, your skin tone, and how many days of recovery you can allow. We make this decision together during consultation.

Female and male treatment areas

What differs

For her

Why women choose ablative laser

For women, the most common goals are acne scars on the face, stretch marks after pregnancy, and general resurfacing of the face, neck and décolletage. This is classic ablative fractional laser for women — rebuilding texture and flattening marks, with an emphasis on planning recovery around your life and commitments.

The areas we support

  1. acne scars — cheeks, forehead, chin;
  2. stretch marks after pregnancy — abdomen, thighs, breasts, buttocks;
  3. resurfacing of the face, neck and décolletage (photoageing);
  4. enlarged pores and uneven texture.

Why men choose ablative laser

In men, acne scars from adolescence and stretch marks from rapid muscle gain (gym training, weight fluctuations) dominate. Skin can be thicker and more oily, which a specialist factors into choosing settings. This is ablative fractional laser for men — with an emphasis on a realistic recovery plan built around work and training.

The areas we support

  1. acne scars — cheeks, forehead, jawline;
  2. stretch marks — arms, chest, back, sides, abdomen;
  3. texture and pores — "rough", uneven facial skin;
  4. photoageing in people who spend a lot of time in the sun.

Good to know: fresh, red stretch marks respond noticeably better to laser than old, white ones — because a "fresh" stretch mark is still living, actively remodelling tissue. This is one of the few areas in aesthetics where acting sooner genuinely gives a better result.

Safety

What really determines the result

With ablative lasers — more so than with gentler treatments — three things matter, and they're worth asking about at any salon:

  1. Who performs and qualifies you for the treatment

    This is a procedure that penetrates the skin — at J'adore it's performed by a doctor or experienced cosmetologist, who assesses your skin tone and scar type and selects the technology and settings. This isn't "one setting for everyone".

  2. Skin tone and phototype

    With darker skin tones, the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) increases — which is why a specialist more often chooses the gentler Er:YAG and more cautious settings. Recent tanning is a reason to postpone the treatment.

  3. Recovery and protection plan

    The safety of your result also depends on what you do after the treatment: strict SPF 50+, no sun or sunbeds, barrier-focused skincare. Without this, even a perfectly performed treatment can end in pigmentation.

Red flag: ablative laser "right away", without consultation, on tanned skin · If someone offers a strong ablative laser without assessing your skin tone, without asking about cold sores or medications, on freshly tanned skin, or "on the spot" before a sunny trip — that's a warning sign. With this class of laser, skipping proper qualification is a real risk of pigmentation, scarring and complications. A good salon will always start with a consultation — and sometimes advise against the treatment at that particular time.

Contraindications

When to postpone the treatment

Some contraindications are permanent, others temporary — in the latter case, we simply postpone the treatment until the situation passes. With ablative lasers, tanning and cold sores are especially important.

We don't perform it
  • Recent tanning or sun exposurewe postpone the treatment (risk of pigmentation, especially with higher phototypes).
  • Photosensitising medications or skincare / photosensitivityrequire assessment and often a pause or gap before treatment.
  • Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) and other oral retinoidsa suitable gap after finishing treatment is required; a specialist decides.
  • Active cold sores (Herpes)even outside the treated area; ablative/resurfacing lasers can reactivate the virus. For recurring cold sores, a specialist recommends antiviral cover, and an active outbreak means postponing the treatment.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Active infections, inflammation and open woundsin the treatment area.
  • A tendency to develop keloid scarsand abnormal healing — requires careful assessment.
  • Clotting disorders, uncontrolled diabetes, active autoimmune diseases, cancer undergoing treatmentafter consultation.

From the specialist's chair

The most commonly overlooked issue: cold sores. Clients think "I only get them on my lips, and we're treating my cheeks — it shouldn't matter". With ablative laser, it does matter — the treatment can reactivate the virus, even outside the treated area. For recurrent cases, we add antiviral prophylaxis, and postpone the treatment by a few days during an active outbreak.

This isn't a complete list — we'll go through your medications, health conditions, skin tone and previous treatments individually at consultation. After ablative laser, SPF 50+ is essential for weeks.

The visit

What to expect during your visit

  1. Fractional ABLATIVE laser (iPIXEL Er:YAG + CO2) — treatment at J'adore Instytut — Consultation and qualification

    Consultation and qualification

    a specialist assesses your skin, scar or stretch mark type, skin tone and expectations, rules out contraindications, and selects the technology (Er:YAG or CO2) and series plan.

  2. Fractional ABLATIVE laser (iPIXEL Er:YAG + CO2) — treatment at J'adore Instytut — Skin preparation

    Skin preparation

    cleansing, followed usually by numbing cream on the area (it needs time to take effect). With stronger settings, comfort is a priority.

  3. Fractional ABLATIVE laser (iPIXEL Er:YAG + CO2) — treatment at J'adore Instytut — The treatment

    The treatment

    the handpiece moves systematically over the area; you'll feel warmth and stinging, eased by anaesthesia and cooling. Duration depends on the size of the area.

  4. Fractional ABLATIVE laser (iPIXEL Er:YAG + CO2) — treatment at J'adore Instytut — Finishing

    Finishing

    a soothing, regenerating product, written aftercare instructions, and a discussion of what to expect in the coming days.

  5. Fractional ABLATIVE laser (iPIXEL Er:YAG + CO2) — treatment at J'adore Instytut — Further sessions

    Further sessions

    for scars and stretch marks, results build up over a series; the specialist sets the intervals between sessions, since the skin needs to fully recover in between.

What to expect

No surprises

Most importantly: this is not a "walk out looking flawless" treatment. Ablative laser deliberately breaches the skin's surface, so for a few days the skin undergoes visible recovery. This is the normal course, not a complication — and it's exactly why we plan the treatment in advance.

  1. Faza 1.first daysredness, swelling, warmth; skin is "working" at its most intense
  2. Faza 2.a few daysflaking and micro-crusting; skin looks worse before it looks better
  3. Faza 3.after recoverysmoother surface and more even tone; you can return to your usual routine
  4. Faza 4.following weeks to monthsnew collagen matures — the effect on scars and stretch marks deepens, especially over a series
The call I get most often is "two days in and my skin looks worse than before the treatment". That's exactly the stage we warn about — ablative laser works through controlled recovery. We assess results not on day three, but once healed, and — for scars — after the full series.

What's normal after the treatment

  • redness and a feeling of heat — strongest in the first hours, then easing;
  • swelling — especially after the stronger (CO2) technology and around the eyes;
  • mild flaking and micro-crusting — for a few days; don't pick at it, let it fall away naturally;
  • roughness and tightness — before the new, smoother surface appears.

Realistically: ablative laser doesn't remove scars "100%" — but it can significantly flatten them and even out texture, giving a clear, visible difference. For stretch marks, the result is fading and smoothing, not complete disappearance. New collagen stays permanently, but natural ageing and fresh sun exposure carry on regardless — which is why post-treatment protection is part of the result.

After the treatment

What's allowed, and when

The first days after ablative laser are when your skin rebuilds its barrier. The rule is simple: don't irritate, don't overheat, don't expose to sun — and stay strict on SPF.

  1. Sun and sunbeds

    avoid; SPF 50+ mandatory

    This is the most important rule. After ablative laser, skin is highly sensitive to UV — sun and sunbeds risk pigmentation. SPF 50+ daily for weeks, and direct exposure avoided. Sunbeds are off the table.

  2. Sauna, pool, hot baths

    wait until healed

    High temperature, chlorine and moisture irritate recovering skin and increase the risk of infection. Hold off until fully healed — a specialist will confirm the timing.

  3. Gym and intense exercise

    break until healed

    Sweat and increased circulation don't help healing, and friction can irritate the area. With a stronger technology, the break is longer — the specialist will set specifics.

  4. Makeup and shaving

    only after healed

    Makeup on the treated area only once skin has healed (don't cover micro-crusts). Men: no shaving the treated area until healed.

  5. Active skincare

    pause retinol/acids/vitamin C

    Retinol, AHA/BHA acids and strong vitamin C are off-limits during recovery — they irritate. Return to them once your specialist gives the go-ahead. In the meantime: panthenol, ceramides, hydration.

  6. Micro-crusts and flaking

    don't pick at it

    The most common mistake: picking at scabs "for smoothness". This is a direct route to pigmentation and scarring. Let flaking fall away on its own — it's a sign your skin is rebuilding.

From the specialist's chair

I repeat this with every ablative laser treatment: the result isn't ruined in the salon, but in the sun afterwards. Even the most beautiful resurfacing can end in pigmentation if someone steps out "just for a moment" without SPF, or heads into the sun right after the series.

Frequently asked questions

  1. QuestionWill ablative fractional laser completely remove my acne scars?
    AnswerNot "100%", but it can significantly flatten them and even out texture — the difference is clear and visible. Deep scars usually need a series of treatments, and the final result builds over weeks as new collagen matures.
  2. QuestionAre the results permanent?
    AnswerNew collagen produced in response to the treatment stays in the skin permanently, and flattened scars don't deepen again. Natural ageing and new sun exposure continue, so after some years you may want to consider a refresher session — and keep up SPF protection.
  3. QuestionWhen will I see results?
    AnswerFirst, your skin goes through recovery (it looks worse before it looks better). More noticeable improvement in tone and smoothness appears once healed, and the full effect — especially on scars and stretch marks — after the whole series, as collagen matures over the following weeks.
