Hair thickening for women

Why women most often choose thickening

Thickening for women is the most common scenario for this service. The aim is aesthetic: adding volume and "body" where hair is naturally finer or weakened by styling — on healthy scalp and strong natural hair.

When it's worth it — indications

  • A thin, see-through parting — when the scalp shows more than you'd like in bright light.
  • A "skinny" ponytail or plait — hair tied back looks thinner than it does loose.
  • Hair weakened by styling — years of colouring, lightening and straightening have taken volume from the ends.
  • Naturally fine hair — when density has always been lower than you'd like, and you want a fuller style.
  • Volume for a special occasion — a wedding, a photoshoot, an important event where hair needs to look its best.
  • Evening out a growing-out cut — when your style "hangs" thin at the bottom and you want to give it more body.

The areas we work on

  1. Thickening at the parting and crown — less visible scalp;
  2. A fuller ponytail, plait and updos — tied-back hair no longer looks "skinny";
  3. Volume under waves and curls — the style holds its shape better;
  4. Matching shade and placement of strands to your colour and how you wear your hair.

Why women most often choose thickening

A thinning parting, a ponytail without body, ends that look weakened after years of colouring — these are the three most common reasons women come in for a thickening consultation. Each one is real, and each has its own solution in the form of strategically placed strands.
It's also worth knowing that thickening works particularly well on fine, soft hair that naturally has lower volume. Strands fitted with the gentle tape-in or nano method — rather than weighing hair down — can visually double it at the parting and at the base of an updo.

A result that looks like your own hair

The biggest concern women have before thickening is one question: will it show? The answer depends on how precisely the shade is matched and how thoughtfully the strands are placed — and that's exactly what the consultation focuses on. Your stylist matches the colour to your hair, not the other way round.
The visual result is visible immediately — a fuller parting, a denser ponytail, volume under a wave. With well-placed strands, people see nice, dense hair; they don't see the extensions.

Thickening and strengthening treatments — when to combine

If your own hair is weakened by styling (colouring, lightening, straightening), it's worth considering strengthening your natural hair before fitting strands — or alongside it. Not because the strands won't work, but because the result on healthy hair looks better and lasts longer. Your stylist will advise whether your hair is ready, or whether to focus on its condition first.

Thickening and an important event — timing

A wedding, a photoshoot, an anniversary, an important meeting — thickening is one of the few hairdressing services that gives a full result immediately. It's worth booking a few weeks ahead, so the strands have time to settle with your own hair and there's room for small adjustments before the event itself.

Frequently asked questions

Will thickening suit my short bob?
Thickening on short styles is more difficult — the strands need something to hold onto and need to be concealable. Your stylist assesses at the consultation whether the length and condition of your hair allow it. For very short cuts, achieving volume through styling is sometimes the better option, and we postpone thickening until your hair has grown a little.
Can I go to the pool and sauna with extensions?
Yes, but with care: the pool and sauna require you to tie the strands up beforehand and rinse thoroughly after contact with chlorine or salt water. High temperatures in the sauna can affect the keratin at the attachment points. Your stylist will explain exactly what's allowed with your method.
Will the strands feel heavy on my head?
With the right number of strands and the right method — especially tape-in and nano — most women adjust to extensions within the first few days. The sensation of something new fades as your scalp adapts to the extra weight, which with thickening is much lighter than with full extensions.
How soon after fitting can I dye my hair?
It's best to plan colouring before fitting the strands — that way your stylist can match the shade of the extensions precisely to your natural hair after colouring. Dyeing after fitting is possible, but requires a consultation, because the strands react differently to natural hair and don't always take colour evenly.
Will the extensions show in a bun or high ponytail?
Not if the strands are placed correctly. Your stylist positions the attachment points with different ways of wearing your hair in mind, including updos. If you often wear a bun or ponytail, mention it at the consultation — it affects where and how the strands are fitted.
