Dark circles under the eyes — causes and effective treatment

Dark circles under the eyes aren't always about tiredness. Each type needs a different approach.

Dark circles (tear trough, dark circles) have several different causes — and each one calls for a different approach. Many people try to "treat" structural fatigue with a moisturiser and end up disappointed with the results. The key to improvement is an accurate diagnosis — working out exactly what's behind your dark circles.

Types of dark circles — the key distinction

Not all dark circles look the same, and they don't all share the same cause. We distinguish several types, which can occur on their own or together.

Mesotherapy for the eye area

Mesotherapy involves injecting active cocktails directly into the eye area. It nourishes the skin, helps thicken it and can reduce the visibility of blood vessels. At J'ADORE, we work with several different preparations, chosen according to your individual needs.

Nucleofill Eyes — polynucleotides under the eye

Nucleofill Eyes is a polynucleotide preparation specifically developed for the eye area. Polynucleotides activate fibroblast receptors, supporting regeneration of the extracellular matrix and gradually thickening the thin skin under the eye.

In many people, after a series of sessions the skin visibly thickens, and blood vessels become less visible through it. We recommend this method especially for the vascular type and for skin that is very delicate and prone to rapid discolouration or damage.

Carboxytherapy under the eyes

Carboxytherapy involves injecting carbon dioxide (CO₂) under the skin of the eye area. The Bohr effect this triggers causes local vasodilation and better tissue oxygenation — the result is often a lighter blue tinge and improved microcirculation.

HA filler — tear trough

For a deep tear trough (the structural type of dark circles), the most effective method is often careful volume replacement with a delicate hyaluronic acid filler. At J'ADORE, we use preparations such as Teosyal Redensity 2 or Juvederm Volbella for this area — formulated specifically for the very delicate eye zone.

Profhilo — tissue reorganisation

Profhilo is a highly concentrated hyaluronic acid administered using the BAP technique (5 injection points). It doesn't add volume like a classic filler — it reorganises the extracellular matrix and improves elasticity across the whole face, including the eye area.

For people with very thin, atrophic skin around the eyes, Profhilo can help reduce shadows by thickening the tissue. It's a holistic method — it improves skin quality across a wide area, not just under the eye.

Home care — what can help?

The right home care won't replace a treatment for the structural type or deep pigmentation, but it can support treatment results and slow the return of dark circles.

When treatments might not be enough

Fat swelling under the eyes — the so-called bags — is a herniated displacement of fat pads pushing tissue forward. Mesotherapy, polynucleotides and fillers can't remove them. In these cases, the only effective method is blepharoplasty — lower eyelid surgery, performed by a plastic surgeon.
