First, you must confirm that these are blackheads, not irritated texture
An open blackhead has a dark plug in the follicle opening, while a closed one forms a light or skin-coloured bump under the surface. Roughness from dryness looks different: the skin is tight, flakes finely and may sting. Inflammatory papules, folliculitis or milia present differently again. A cosmetologist should examine your face closely rather than accepting your online self-diagnosis as a ready-made indication.
Oily shine does not settle the matter. You may be over-cleansing your face, causing your cheeks to lose comfort while your T-zone continues to produce sebum. Adding Salipeel to such a routine without fixing your home habits may increase tension and provoke further aggressive washing. A good place asks how your skin behaves after cleansing and whether water and cream cause stinging.
Ask the specialist to point out the areas they want to work on and those they intend to avoid. If the answer is "the whole face, because there are pores everywhere", the map of the problem is missing. Gland openings are a natural part of the skin and cannot be removed. The procedure can reduce clogging and improve the surface appearance, but it does not create a porcelain face without pores.
The interview about aspirin and salicylates cannot be hidden in the fine print
Salicylic acid belongs to the salicylate group, so the salon should ask about known allergies and previous reactions to drugs or cosmetics in this group. A hurried "are you allergic to anything?" is not enough. Describe what caused the reaction, what it looked like and whether it required medical help. In the case of an unclear or severe history, a medical consultation or a different method may be necessary.
Do not try to check safety yourself by applying a home BHA to a small area beforehand. Tolerance to a cosmetic with a different formula does not guarantee tolerance to a professional product. The salon should know the full composition, not just the main acid. Solvents, excipients and any additives may also matter for reactive skin.
Anti-acne medications and your home routine change your tolerance threshold
- Home inventory. Count all sources of exfoliation from your home shelf: BHA in toner, AHA in serum, retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, enzymatic peel, cleansing brush and spot treatment for breakouts.
- Routine verification. A client often says they use one acid, though in practice three products affect the barrier on different days.
- The role of the cosmetologist. The specialist should help simplify the scheme before and after the treatment, not add Salipeel to an overloaded routine.
At your first visit, photos of products are useful, not just their names spoken from memory. The same brand may have a mild gel and a highly active serum in similar packaging. Show new products at your fifth session as well. A regular client often does not get detailed questions again, even though they might have added an anti-acne treatment between appointments. A good salon updates the list before starting skin preparation.
The full name of the Salipeel variant is more important than the word BHA
Professional lines may contain different variants of salicylic peel and combinations with other ingredients. Ask exactly what product will be used, who the manufacturer is and why this variant fits your skin. The information "acid for pores" is too general. A different formula may be chosen for a resistant, oily T-zone and another for a combination face with sensitive cheeks.
The packaging should be labelled and come from a legal source. The salon must be able to identify the product used during the visit and record the procedure. An unlabelled bottle, a product poured out before your arrival or a refusal to provide the name make it difficult to assess reactions later. For a series, documentation also allows you to check whether the variant was changed or only the number of layers.
Degreasing is a controlled stage, not a competition for squeaky skin
Salicylic acid works in an environment associated with sebum, so surface preparation is important for even application. This does not mean that the skin should be aggressively scrubbed or repeatedly wiped until it stings intensely. The cosmetologist observes the reaction during makeup removal and degreasing. If your cheeks turn bright red then, the plan may need to be changed before applying the acid.
A person with thicker, seborrhoeic nose skin may tolerate preparation differently than someone with a dry jaw after shaving. This is an argument for zonal work. An identical number of layers on the entire face is organisationally convenient but does not always correspond to what is visible on the surface. Ask if the salon differentiates areas and what they use to protect particularly delicate spots.
A white residue after salicylic acid does not always mean the same thing as damage
During the action of salicylic acid, a white residue associated with product crystallisation may appear. An inexperienced person might call every white trace "frosting" and consider it proof of deep action. The specialist should distinguish the appearance of the product from an epidermal reaction, also assessing redness, time, location and your feelings. It is not about an impressive image, but about correct interpretation.
Ask before application what the cosmetologist will be observing and when they will stop the stage. If the answer boils down to waiting until it hurts a lot, look for another place. Stinging may occur, but it is not a measure of quality. Sudden sharp pain in one spot, a rapid change in colour or a reaction exceeding the plan require action in accordance with the protocol.
Hygiene includes the brush, hands, surroundings and the way of handling breakouts
The workstation should be prepared so that applicators, swabs and vessels do not circulate between clients. The person performing the treatment washes and disinfects their hands, uses gloves in accordance with the procedure and does not touch their phone during the process without re-sanitising. A peel does not become safe just because the acid itself has properties that limit some microorganisms.
An active, scratched or oozing lesion requires a separate decision. The salon should not squeeze it and then cover it with acid to "finish the cleansing". Mechanical disruption and a peel in one area increase the burden. If the plan combines cleansing with acid, ask for an explanation of the order, scope and reason. A slogan about deep cleansing is not enough.
A good salon recognises the moment when acne requires a dermatologist
Treat stories about "purging" with particular caution. New lesions after a treatment are not automatic proof of a correct process. They may result from irritation, occlusion, infection, skincare or the natural course of acne. The salon should collect information and differentiate scenarios, not call every breakout a success of the acid.
A client returning after a series may say that their forehead is less shiny, but painful lesions on the jaw remain. This is a hint that one tool affects part of the problem, not a reason to apply more layers to the whole face. Honest monitoring separates the effect on sebum and blackheads from the course of a disease requiring different care.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and chronic diseases require an explicit qualification policy
Professional salicylic peels are often postponed during pregnancy, and the rules during breastfeeding depend on the product, area and safety assessment. Inform the salon about pregnancy or its suspicion before booking. It is not enough that a BHA cosmetic was previously used at home. The salon formula, scope and application method are different, and the aesthetic procedure can wait.
Also report diseases affecting healing, immunity, sensation or medications taken. A diagnosis alone does not always exclude a treatment, but it may require consultation with a doctor. Do not accept assurances that the acid only works superficially, so your health status does not matter. The interview serves precisely to check for exceptions before the product comes into contact with your skin.
Written aftercare instructions should address specific situations
- Hygiene and care. Before leaving, you must know when to wash your face, what type of moisturising product to use and how long not to use home acids.
- Protection and activity. The instructions must specify how to protect the skin from UV and what rules apply to shaving, makeup, physical exertion, saunas and swimming pools.
- Continuing treatment. It should be determined when to return to using topical medications after prior agreement with a doctor. One sentence about moisturising is not enough.
Check if the salon provides symptoms requiring contact. Minor dryness and tightness differ from blisters, increasing pain, significant swelling, oozing or allergic symptoms. Establish the channel and hours of contact. If the situation exceeds the cosmetologist's competence, the place should indicate the need for medical help instead of assuring you that every reaction will pass on its own.
The instructions should also say what to do if a new breakout appears after a few days. Spot-treating with alcohol, adding BHA or squeezing on flaking skin can create damage greater than the lesion itself. First, document the appearance and consult the course of action. A salon that manages acne-prone skin must be able to distinguish calm observation from a situation requiring a dermatologist.
The series plan should take into account the skin after the third day, not just the appearance in the chair
A common home mistake happens precisely on the third day: a dry fragment on the chin is wiped off with a towel and then covered with a BHA preparation. In the evening, the area stings and shines like an abrasion. The salon should warn about this scenario and clearly forbid tearing off flakes. The amount of shedding epidermis is not the result of the therapy.
A series should have a point where you can say "this is not the right direction". If the barrier constantly loses comfort, inflammation intensifies or the goal concerns scars on which superficial BHA has limited influence, further repetition does not become better through consistency. Changing the method or taking a break proves that the plan is being managed, not that it is a failure.
During a check-up, do not assess sebum right after washing or immediately after the treatment. Note at what time the shine usually appears, whether it requires adding powder and how your cheeks behave at the same time. The skin may be more matte but less comfortable — then the result is not unambiguously beneficial. The cosmetologist should consider both signals instead of considering dryness as proof of effective regulation.
Pore photos are easy to manipulate with light and fresh degreasing
A photo taken right after the treatment may show a matte surface because sebum was removed during preparation. This does not prove lasting regulation. Sharp side light highlights every gland opening, and soft light smooths them out. If the salon documents the effect, it should maintain a similar frame, lighting, time and interval from washing.
Do not expect pores to disappear. You can work on clogging and the general appearance of the texture, but gland openings remain part of anatomy. The promise of "closing pores" is a signal that sales language is ahead of the mechanism. A reliable place talks about cleansing, reduced visibility and limitations, not about erasing the skin structure.
The most dangerous red flags concern diagnosis and care, not decor
- no questions about allergies to salicylates, medications, retinoids, pregnancy and active skincare;
- automatically assuming that shine is an indication for the strongest degreasing;
- unlabelled packaging or a refusal to provide the full name of the preparation;
- squeezing active lesions without a clear plan, followed by applying acid;
- treating pain, white residue or intense peeling as a measure of effectiveness;
- a lack of home-care instructions, reaction documentation and post-session contact options;
- promising to treat acne, remove scars or close pores using only Salipeel.
A good clinic does not need to overwhelm you with terminology. It must, however, answer simple questions precisely: what it sees, what it will use, why this variant is suitable, what might go wrong and how it will react if it does. If you face pressure to buy a package or are told that the acid "knows where to work" instead of receiving answers, you lack the basis for informed consent.

Ask whether the same person will perform the qualification, the subsequent sessions and the reaction assessment. Changing your cosmetologist does not have to be a problem if the documentation is clear. The problem arises when every visit starts from scratch and the client is expected to remember the preparation name and the healing process. Continuity of information is particularly important for acne and active medication.
When choosing a time, consider your return journey and the next morning. Hours of driving in a warm car, a helmet rubbing your forehead, a workout ending with sweat running down your face or the need for a close shave can hinder the first stage after a peel. Mention these conditions before booking. Sometimes a later time or a different day provides your skin with a calmer environment than the most convenient slot.

- whether the consultation covers salicylates, medication, dermatological therapy and pregnancy;
- exactly which preparation and variant will be used;

- what recommendations you will receive for the following days and which cosmetics must be paused;
- where you should report blisters, increasing pain, swelling or an unusual breakout.
If the answers are concrete and the practitioner is also able to decline the treatment, you have a solid basis for your choice. Salipeel should not be purchased as a punishment for oily skin.
