Botox — expression lines, how it works, duration

One of the most thoroughly researched aesthetic medicine treatments — answers to your most frequently asked questions.

Botox is botulinum toxin type A — one of the most researched drugs in medical history, used for over 40 years. In aesthetic medicine, it blocks neuromuscular transmission, causing temporary muscle relaxation. The effect is fully reversible.

How does Botox work?

Botulinum toxin blocks the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction — the muscle stops contracting for several months, and the skin above it becomes smoother.

Aesthetic indications — where is Botox used?

Botox is effective wherever wrinkles form due to the activity of expression muscles — such as when smiling, frowning, or squinting.

  • Forehead lines — smoothing horizontal wrinkles
  • Frown lines (glabella) — vertical furrows between the brows ("the one" or "the eleven")
  • Crow's feet — wrinkles at the corners of the eyes
  • Brow lift — a subtle elevation of the brow arch
  • Bunny lines — wrinkles on the nose when smiling
  • Gummy smile — visible gums when smiling
  • Lip flip — eversion of the upper lip
  • Mouth corners (marionette lines) — lifting drooping corners
  • Venus rings — horizontal neck wrinkles
  • Bruxism — jaw clenching, headaches, jawline contouring
  • Hyperhidrosis — underarms, hands, feet

When do results appear and how long do they last?

  • First signs of action — usually after 1–2 days
  • Full result — visible approx. 7–14 days after the treatment
  • Optimal effect level — often for the first 3–4 months
  • Gradual return of muscle activity — approx. 4–6 months
  • Next session — usually after 6 months

Products — Botox, Azzalure, Bocouture

Several botulinum toxin type A products from various manufacturers are available on the market. They all work on the same principle — they differ in formulation and dosage.

  • Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) — Allergan/AbbVie, the reference product
  • Azzalure (abobotulinumtoxinA) — Galderma, a slightly different conversion factor than Botox
  • Bocouture (incobotulinumtoxinA) — Merz, a formula without complexing proteins

Who performs Botox at J'ADORE?

Botox for bruxism

Bruxism is involuntary clenching and grinding of teeth — often at night and often unconscious. Botox injected into the masseter muscle relaxes the forced clench, which can reduce tooth wear as well as headaches and neck pain.

Botox for hyperhidrosis

Botulinum toxin blocks sweat glands — it does not destroy them, but cuts off nerve stimulation. The effect is clearly noticeable for many people and can last for several months.

  • Underarms — effect often visible for many months
  • Hands — helpful for severe sweating that hinders daily functioning
  • Feet — less common, but effective
  • Face (forehead) — used for significant forehead sweating
