Advertisements promise that Geneo "oxygenates the skin". Physiology suggests otherwise — and not to discredit the treatment, but to help you understand it properly.

The Bohr effect sounds serious. It is included in every OxyGeneo marketing material, appearing in treatment descriptions and on salon websites. The problem is that most people who cite it do not know what it actually means — and this creates myths that hinder your decision-making instead of helping you choose a good treatment. Geneo is a device with a real mechanism of action and documented properties. However, this mechanism is more interesting and subtle than "pumping oxygen into the skin". We take the five most common misunderstandings and break them down — including the question that should be at the end of every conversation about this treatment: who is Geneo really a good choice for.

What is the Bohr effect — before we move on to the myths

This is real — but short-lived. Long-term effects, such as improvement in skin structure, deeper stimulation of collagen synthesis or evening out hyperpigmentation, may appear after a series of sessions, not after one visit. In fact, this applies to almost every cosmetic treatment — the skin does not "repair itself" in an hour.

Myth 5: "Geneo is for everyone — it is gentle, so it is safe for all." Geneo is indeed considered a gentle and well-tolerated treatment, without a distinct healing period. But "gentle" does not mean "without contraindications". Active inflammatory lesions, reactive skin, allergy to product ingredients, certain vascular diseases, pregnancy, active skin infection — these are situations where the treatment may not be appropriate or should be modified. Every good cosmetologist conducts an interview before the treatment precisely because "gentle" is not the same as "for everyone without exception".

What Geneo really does to the skin

The treatment is also often chosen as preparation before an important event — a wedding, a photo shoot, a congress — when you want a quick refreshing effect without the risk of redness or peeling that stronger peels provide.

Geneo can also be a valuable element of supplementary treatments. As a microcirculation stimulant and a cleansing element, it combines well with treatments that work deeper — mesotherapy, biostimulators or PRP. It does not replace them, but it can strengthen the environment in which they work: better oxygenated, cleansed and hydrated skin reacts more fully to active ingredients.
