The Bohr effect sounds impressive. It appears in every piece of OxyGeneo marketing material, in treatment descriptions and on salon websites. The problem is that most people who quote it don't actually know what it means — and that breeds myths that make choosing the right treatment harder, not easier. Geneo is a device with a genuine mechanism of action and documented properties. That mechanism is simply more interesting, and more subtle, than "we pump oxygen into the skin". We take the five most common misunderstandings and break them down — including the question that should end every conversation about this treatment: who is Geneo genuinely a good choice for?

What the Bohr effect actually is — before we get to the myths

To debunk myths properly, you first need to know what you're talking about. Christian Bohr was a Danish physiologist who, in 1904, described the relationship between carbon dioxide levels in the blood and haemoglobin's ability to release oxygen to tissues. Myth 5: "Geneo is for everyone — it's gentle, so it's safe for anyone." Geneo is indeed considered a gentle, well-tolerated treatment with no clear healing period.
