Check your recommendation card first, not the internet
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is created from the patient's own blood. After preparation, it is administered into the selected area — for example, the skin of the face, the eye area, the décolletage, the hands or the scalp. It is not just the location that differs, but also the method of administration and the number of injections. Therefore, two people after "plasma" may receive slightly different instructions and both may be correct.
If the clinic has recommended a specific time for your first wash, return to make-up or use of a specific product, stick to that instruction. If the verbal recommendation is unclear, call and clarify, instead of filling the gap with a random video from the web. PRP protocols are not identical in every place, and care should result from what was actually performed.
What can be a normal reaction after PRP
PRP involves drawing blood and breaking the skin barrier at the administration sites. A transient reaction does not automatically mean a complication. Most often, you may notice redness, slight swelling, tenderness, small bumps at the injection points or isolated bruising. With the scalp, there may be a feeling of tightness or sensitivity when touching and styling your hair.
More important than the fact that a symptom has appeared is its direction. A typical reaction gradually subsides. It does not have to disappear for everyone at the same time, because the zone, the number of injections, susceptibility to bruising and individual skin reaction all matter. Do not assess the effect of the treatment by how you look on the first day — redness or temporary tightness are not a measure of the final result.
Usually, we observe calmly
transient reactions that weaken
- mild redness around the administration sites
- slight swelling or small bumps after injections
- skin tenderness and gentle tightness
- isolated bruising at the sites of vessel disturbance
- increased scalp sensitivity to touch
We contact the clinic
symptoms intensify or cause concern
- swelling persists without improvement or clearly increases
- pain becomes stronger instead of gradually subsiding
- bleeding appears that will not stop
- bruising is excessive or expands quickly
- signs of infection, fever or a clear deterioration in well-being occur
Day of treatment — the rule of clean hands and calm skin
Immediately after your visit, it is easiest to cause harm not with a "bad cosmetic", but with a reflex: touching your face, checking bumps with your finger, massaging the administration site or fixing your hair every few minutes. Injection sites need rest. Do not rub, squeeze or massage them, unless the person performing the treatment has recommended a specific technique.
- Leave only what was applied in the clinic on your skin until the indicated moment for washing arrives.
- Do not add active serums, retinol, acids, peels or perfumed products just because they are usually part of your routine.
- Do not cover fresh injection points with heavy make-up before the time indicated in the recommendations.
- For a scalp treatment, do not wash your hair earlier than recommended and do not apply strong styling products to sensitive skin.
- Avoid situations that strongly heat the skin or increase sweating if your post-treatment instructions recommend a break.
In many protocols after cosmetic PRP, the first 24 hours are a period without make-up or without washing the treated area, but do not treat this as a universal clock. The scope and time are set by the person performing the treatment. If plasma was administered to the scalp, the recommendation will concern washing your hair; if to the face — cleansing and make-up.
First days — a gentle routine without rushing
When you can return to washing according to the recommendations, simplify your care to basic functions: gentle cleansing, hydration and sun protection. Skin after injections does not need additional exfoliation or a "stronger stimulus". Products that you normally tolerate well may temporarily sting if they contain intense active ingredients or many fragrances.
- Wash the treated area gently, without brushes, gloves, granular peels or energetic towel drying.
- Choose simple care that your skin already knows; a week after the treatment is not a good time for the premiere of a new acid or strong retinoid.
- Protect your skin from the sun according to the instructions and do not plan tanning or a solarium in the first week.
- Put off the sauna, hot baths, swimming pool and intense exercise for the period indicated by the person performing the treatment; usually, caution is greatest at the beginning, when injection marks are fresh.
- Do not perform a massage of the treated area or home treatments that disturb the skin until you receive permission to return.
First-week plan step by step
The axis below is not a prescription by the hour. It is a priority map that helps you not to miss anything. If your recommendation card provides a different schedule, the recommendation card wins.
- 01
Immediately after the visit
Do not touch or massage the injection points. Remember or write down when you are allowed to wash the area, apply make-up or wash your hair. Check the contact number for the clinic.
- 02
First evening and night
Give up active care and strong skin heating. Observe the reaction without constant touching. Mild redness, tenderness or small bumps may be transient.
- 03
Beginning of the following days
Once you receive approval, return to gentle cleansing and simple moisturising. Protect your skin from the sun. Intensive exercise, saunas, swimming pools and strong cosmetics remain off-limits as instructed.
- 04
Mid-week
Monitor the trend: typical symptoms should subside, not increase. Do not pick at small scabs and do not try to speed up the disappearance of bruising with aggressive massage.
- 05
End of the first week
If your skin is calm, return gradually to your usual routine within the recommended limits. If swelling, pain or other symptoms still cause concern, contact the salon before adding active products or scheduling another treatment.
Face, eye area and scalp — what changes
The general rules are the same — clean hands, gentleness, avoiding irritation and observation. However, the daily situation of the treated area differs. The face comes into contact with cosmetics and make-up, the eye area is prone to swelling, and the scalp is covered by hair and exposed to styling products.
Face and décolletage
skincare and sun exposure
- return to washing and make-up according to instructions
- simple skincare instead of multiple layers of active serums
- protection against radiation and avoiding tanning
- no peels, massage or home devices on freshly treated skin
Eye area
a delicate zone where swelling is easily visible
- do not press or rub lumps or injection points
- do not introduce random products near the eye
- observe whether the swelling gradually decreases
- if you notice a worrying reaction, contact the salon instead of masking it with cosmetics
Scalp
washing, styling and friction
- perform the first wash at the time indicated after the treatment
- do not scratch or massage sensitive skin
- avoid aggressive styling products and chemical treatments
- return to your usual routine gradually as tenderness subsides

What is best not to plan in the same week
PRP is often part of a larger care plan, but "more" does not mean "better immediately". In the first week, do not add treatments yourself that disrupt the skin barrier, heat it up significantly or make it difficult to assess the reaction after injections. This applies to both salon procedures and intensive home devices.
- do not plan professional peels, microneedling or other injection treatments without an agreed sequence
- do not automatically return to retinol and acids just because a few days have passed — the condition of your skin is what matters
- do not cover persistent irritation with heavy make-up just to "get through" a meeting
- do not book tanning, sunbeds, saunas or intensive exercise against post-treatment instructions
- do not treat alcohol, supplements or medication as a way to "improve circulation" or speed up regeneration
If PRP was combined with another procedure during the same visit, the recommendations may be more restrictive than for plasma alone. This is another reason why the card issued at the salon is more important than a general guide.
When to call the salon
Call if the reaction is not improving, is clearly stronger than described in the recommendations or simply causes you concern. Persistent or increasing swelling, worsening pain, bleeding, excessive bruising, signs of infection, fever or a deterioration in your general well-being are particularly important. Do not try to decide for yourself if a symptom is "still normal" if it exceeds what you expected.
Such information helps the practitioner assess the situation and decide whether further observation is sufficient, a check-up is needed, or you should be directed to medical help. Do not send photos to random places or base decisions on comments on social media.
