Why men's skin turns grey

Men's skin is thicker than women's — by roughly 15–20% — and better supplied with blood. That sounds like an advantage, and often it is. Enzymes — usually papain from papaya or bromelain from pineapple — break down the peptide bonds holding dead cells to the skin. This is biochemistry, not mechanics. The dead layer lifts away on its own. Living epidermis stays put. For sensitive, vascular or oily skin prone to inflammation, this is often the only form of exfoliation you can use without risking your skin's condition.

  • Enzyme vs acid (AHA/BHA): acids work deeper and stronger — that's both their strength and their risk. On reactive, strongly vascular skin, or right after shaving, acids can irritate. Enzymes work more superficially and selectively, which is why they're often used as a "starter" treatment, or on sensitive skin.
  • Enzyme vs mechanical (microdermabrasion): microdermabrasion abrades skin with an abrasive tip or crystals — the result is immediate and visible, but harder on the skin. It needs recovery time. Enzymes require no downtime and suit regular use.
  • Enzyme vs laser resurfacing: lasers work completely differently and address deeper concerns (scarring, hyperpigmentation). The comparison doesn't really hold — these are different tools for different goals.
