The surface of the skin that we touch and see in the mirror is not dead — it is constantly being replaced. - Inhibiting tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is an enzyme that initiates the production of melanin — the pigment responsible for hyperpigmentation. Azelaic acid blocks its activity. For many people, this translates into a gradual lightening of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and an even skin tone. Importantly, it acts selectively on "overreacting" — abnormally active — melanocytes without blocking normal melanin production. Therefore, the effect is more natural than after aggressive whitening ingredients.
- Anti-inflammatory action. Redness and skin reactivity often have an inflammatory basis — a cytokine cascade, dilated vessels, and skin hypersensitivity to stimuli. Azelaic acid inhibits several inflammatory mediators. For people with rosacea or vascular skin, this can translate into a visibly calmer, less red complexion.
