Retinol has legendary status in cosmetology — and it deserves it. Decades of research, hundreds of publications and consistent results. Yet many people who try retinol soon stop using it: irritation, peeling and redness. This classic introduction to the ingredient even has its own term: retinisation. The skin must literally adapt to retinol.

Retix.C offers a different approach. It is not another retinol cream — it is a salon peel in which the active molecule is designed to awaken only within the skin, rather than attack it from the outside. The result? A similar mechanism of action, with a completely different tolerance profile.

Vitamin A and its journey through the skin — from the epidermis to the cell nucleus

To understand Retix.C, you first need to understand how retinol works in general. Vitamin A and its derivatives — collectively known as retinoids — are one of the few groups of cosmetic ingredients with genuinely strong evidence behind them. Their mechanism is complex. This entire pathway — retinol → retinaldehyde → retinoic acid → receptor → genes — takes place inside cells. The problem with classic retinol in a cream is that before it reaches the place where it is converted, it remains for a while on the surface and in the upper layers of the epidermis as a free, reactive molecule. This stage is responsible for most irritation.

Retinyl Retinoate — the retinoid that waits

This is where the key Retix.C ingredient comes in: retinyl retinoate. It is a relatively new retinoid — a molecule made of two vitamin A fragments joined by an ester bond. Think of a sealed envelope: retinoic acid is inside, but sealed away. Only skin enzymes — lipases and esterases — break this bond and release the active form.

What else is in Retix.C — the role of vitamin C and the three-phase peel

Retix.C is not only a retinoid. Its name deliberately combines “reti” and “C” — vitamin C is an equally important active ingredient here, and both work synergistically. Their combination is not accidental. In skin-ageing mechanisms, these two biological pathways genuinely complement one another.

  • Vitamin C (ascorbic acid and its derivatives) — one of the stronger antioxidants available in cosmetology. It may inhibit excessive melanin production, which contributes to hyperpigmentation. It also supports collagen synthesis and neutralises free radicals formed through UV exposure. The problem with classic ascorbic acid is similar to that of retinol: it is unstable and irritating. Retix.C uses its derivatives, which work more predictably.
  • Exfoliating acids (AHA and others) — Retix.C belongs to the category of peels, which means it contains exfoliating acids that work on the epidermis surface. What the treatment looks like — and what happens to the skin afterwards

Retix.C is a salon peel performed by a cosmetologist or doctor. It is not an invasive treatment, but it requires skin assessment, preparation and an appropriate protocol. The process is controlled — the specialist observes your skin’s reaction and adjusts the exposure time.

After the treatment, the skin may peel for several days. This is a normal and expected reaction caused by the acids and accelerated epidermal renewal. It is not the same as irritation — peeling is visible evidence that the epidermis is rebuilding. The intensity of this reaction varies between people. It depends, among other things, on epidermal thickness, skin sensitivity and the selected product concentration.

  • Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone — post-acne melanin, sunspots and uneven skin tone. The combination of vitamin C and retinoids addresses pigmentation at different levels: vitamin C may inhibit the formation of new melanin, while retinoids accelerate epidermal renewal and bring hyperpigmented epidermal cells to the surface.
  • Loss of firmness and early signs of ageing — retinoids are among the few ingredients with a documented effect on collagen synthesis and remodelling of the skin matrix. After a series of treatments, skin may appear denser and firmer.
  • Photoageing — skin with a history of intense sun exposure (thicker, greyish and uneven in texture) is a classic indication for retinoids. Retix.C combines exfoliation with regeneration at a deeper level.

  • It will not replace a complete skincare protocol — treatment results can be significantly enhanced or undermined by your home skincare. Aggressive acids after the treatment, no SPF and returning to irritants can all compromise the results.
  • It is not a one-off treatment that lasts for years — retinoids stimulate the skin, but skin does not retain this stimulation forever. Results require maintenance, both through treatment series and, at the right time, home skincare with retinoids.
  • It does not work in the same way for everyone — the pace and intensity of results depend on skin phototype, exposure history, epidermal thickness and many other factors. An honest summary: Retix.C is a treatment with an interesting and well-supported mechanism. For many people, it may offer better results and tolerance than a classic retinol peel.
