Two treatments, two approaches to hydration
Before we compare them, it helps to understand one thing: hydro-exfoliation is a category, not a single treatment. It combines mechanical or enzymatic exfoliation with the simultaneous delivery of active ingredients. The result is refreshed, hydrated, more radiant skin. But Geneo Hydrate and HydraFacial reach that goal in completely different ways.
Geneo Hydrate
oxygenation + hydration from within
- activates the natural Bohr effect — skin oxygenates itself from the inside
- three-step formula: OxyPod (activator) + gel + applicator head
- works through the skin, not on its surface — subtle, with no abrasion
- particularly well suited to sensitive, reactive and vascular skin
- often described as giving skin "the look of a week's holiday"
HydraFacial
exfoliation + cleansing + customised serum
- a spiral tip simultaneously exfoliates and extracts impurities
- three phases: cleansing → acid peel → serum infusion
- serum selected individually (for hydration, brightening or antioxidant support)
- highly effective for clogged pores, blackheads and oily skin
- visible results straight away — smoother, more even skin
Who is Geneo Hydrate for — when to choose "from the inside"
Geneo Hydrate can be a particularly good choice when skin needs hydration and radiance but is too delicate for more aggressive methods. Here are some situations where it often works better:
- Sensitive or reactive skin — Geneo doesn't use acids at irritating concentrations, so the risk of redness is lower
- Vascular skin — the gentle mechanism means a lower risk of worsening redness
- Anti-ageing prevention — regular sessions can help maintain natural radiance and hydration before more visible changes appear
- "Face before an event" — the result is subtle and natural; skin doesn't look "treated"
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding — with the right vials, and after consultation with a cosmetologist, often suitable
Who is HydraFacial for — when to choose "pure action"
HydraFacial has a clear advantage wherever skin needs deep cleansing and mechanical removal of blackheads. The spiral tip "vacuums" impurities like a mini extractor — and it shows in the result. When is it worth choosing?
- Oily skin with enlarged pores — physical extraction removes sebum and blackheads more effectively than an enzymatic approach
- Combination skin prone to congestion — the T-zone looks smoother and more even after HydraFacial
- First exfoliation — a new experience — the three-step protocol is well structured, with the cosmetologist guiding the whole session
- Preparing for an event — the effect is more of a "wow" and immediate: pores minimised, skin tone even
- Photoageing and early hyperpigmentation — a brightening serum can help even out skin tone
One question that clears everything up
Instead of asking "which one is better", try answering one question: what bothers me most about my skin?
- 01
Skin is dry, grey, lacking radiance — but pores aren't an issue
Direction: Geneo Hydrate. Oxygenation and deeper hydration can revive the skin without the risk of irritation.
- 02
Clogged pores, blackheads, excess oil, a T-zone that needs control
Direction: HydraFacial. Mechanical extraction and the acid stage effectively clear pores and even out the skin.
- 03
Sensitive or vascular skin — you want results, but without the risk
Direction: Geneo Hydrate, or possibly HydraFacial with the acid stage skipped or softened — after consultation.
- 04
You want a "preventive" treatment — there's no problem yet
Both treatments can fit into a regular skincare routine. Geneo is often gentler for monthly use; HydraFacial works well every few weeks.
- 05
You're not sure — your skin is combination type
That's exactly why a cosmetology consultation exists. A good specialist will assess your skin and tell you which direction makes sense — and whether alternating between treatments might be worthwhile.
When it makes sense to combine them — and how that looks in a plan
Geneo Hydrate and HydraFacial aren't mutually exclusive. Many specialists plan them alternately to draw on the strengths of both mechanisms. The logic is simple: one treatment cleanses and exfoliates, the other oxygenates and regenerates. Just as diet alone rarely works without exercise, skin often responds better to a varied, well-thought-out plan.
HydraFacial → Geneo Hydrate (alternating)
One month of deep cleansing, one month of oxygenation and hydration. For many people with combination skin, this plan gives the most stable results throughout the year.
Geneo Hydrate + needle mesotherapy
Oxygenation improves skin receptiveness, so active ingredients penetrate more effectively. Often used to prepare skin for more intensive treatments.
HydraFacial + laser or IPL
HydraFacial as a preparatory treatment — cleansed, refreshed skin responds more evenly to further treatments. Your cosmetologist determines the order and interval.
Geneo Hydrate + chemical peel (as a separate session)
Geneo helps maintain results after a more intensive peel. It soothes, hydrates and preserves radiance between more intensive sessions.
There's no single perfect plan, because there's no single type of skin. That's exactly why a consultation before your first treatment matters more than it seems: a good cosmetologist won't just perform the treatment — they'll suggest how to fit it into a longer-term routine, so the results don't fade within a week.
What neither treatment changes
Both Geneo Hydrate and HydraFacial fall into the category of skincare and conditioning — not treatment of a medical condition. It's worth knowing what not to expect from them, so the results don't disappoint you.
- Active acne — with inflammation present, both treatments need to be modified or postponed; neither is designed for active breakouts
- Deep acne scars — reducing their depth requires other methods (such as microneedling or laser resurfacing)
- Hormonal hyperpigmentation — hydro-exfoliation can help with prevention, but reducing melanin itself requires targeted protocols
- Permanent results — these are recurring treatments; after a few weeks, skin returns to its usual rhythm and needs another session
