Two treatments, two mechanisms
Both nanopore and Dermapen use needles — but that's where the similarity ends. Nanopore works shallow and precise: it creates micro-channels in the epidermis that last just minutes. During that brief window, the skin is like an open envelope — it absorbs serum in quantities it could never take in through an intact surface. This is a delivery treatment: the main character is the active ingredient, not the needle. Dermapen works deeper. Its needles reach the dermis, where they create a controlled injury — and that injury is the whole point. The body responds with a healing cascade: it produces collagen, elastin, and activates fibroblasts. The result builds over weeks, because here the body does the work on itself.
Nanopore
opens channels for active ingredients
- shallow penetration — epidermis
- delivers serum, peptides, hyaluronic acid, vitamins
- hydration and radiance from the first session
- minimal discomfort, short recovery
- ideal before an event or as part of a routine
Dermapen
stimulates skin remodelling from within
- deeper penetration — dermis
- micro-injuries trigger collagen and elastin production
- improves texture, scars, pores, fine lines
- requires recovery time (typically 24–72 hours of redness)
- results build over several weeks
How to work out what you need — a quick self-check
Before your consultation, it's worth asking yourself a few simple questions. The answers don't replace a specialist's assessment, but they focus the conversation — and save time for both of you.
- Is your skin dehydrated, dull, lacking radiance, "tired"? Hydration needs a boost from the outside — go for nanopore with a hydrating or brightening serum.
- Do you have visible pores, uneven texture, shallow acne scars or fine lines? These are structural concerns — go for Dermapen, which remodels the skin from within.
- Have an event in a week and want a "wow" effect without redness? Nanopore leaves you ready to go by the next day. Dermapen needs a week's buffer for calm healing.
- Want to boost the effect of a Dermapen series or extend its results? Nanopore with the right serum complements the course well — as a "maintenance" treatment between sessions.
It's also worth remembering that Dermapen offers a wider range of depths than nanopore. That flexibility lets your cosmetologist adjust it precisely to your skin thickness and specific concern. Nanopore, on the other hand, excels as a delivery system: it moves active ingredients through the skin barrier several times more effectively than surface application alone.
Skin that benefits from one — and skin that needs both
Not every skin is ready for Dermapen from the first visit. Reactive skin, skin prone to irritation, or skin with active acne — Dermapen can wait here. Nanopore can be a safer starting point in this case, and often a standalone solution. On the other hand, for deeper concerns — acne scars, wrinkles from collagen loss, clearly enlarged pores — nanopore will still do its job (hydrate, add radiance), but without stimulating the deeper layers, it won't reach the root of the problem.
When it makes sense to combine both
Nanopore and Dermapen don't compete — they fall into sequence. The best approach is to treat them as two tools in the same programme, not as alternatives. A few popular combinations worth knowing:
Dermapen + nanopore with serum (in one session)
Dermapen creates the micro-injuries that stimulate collagen. Nanopore, immediately after, delivers regenerating ingredients into the open channels. Treatment effect plus nourishment in a single visit.
Dermapen series + nanopore between sessions
Dermapen rebuilds every 4–6 weeks. Nanopore maintains hydration and radiance between sessions. Skin doesn't "dip" between stimulation cycles.
Nanopore as a starting point
For reactive or sensitive skin, nanopore prepares the skin for Dermapen: it improves the barrier, hydration and tolerance. A good entry point before deeper stimulation.
Nanopore + DermaQuest peel
Delivering acids through nanopore channels enhances the effect of enzymatic and acid peels. A combination for skin that needs both tone and texture improvement at once.
